1 A nd they came to the other side of the sea, to the country of the Gadarenes.

¶ And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.

2 A nd immediately on his going out of the ship there met him out of the tombs a man possessed by an unclean spirit,

And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him a man of the tombs, with an unclean spirit,

3 w ho had his dwelling in the tombs; and no one was able to bind him, not even with chains;

who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, no, not with chains,

4 b ecause he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been torn asunder by him, and the fetters were shattered; and no one was able to subdue him.

because many times he had been bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been broken in pieces by him, and the fetters shattered; neither could anyone tame him.

5 A nd continually night and day, in the tombs and in the mountains, he was crying and cutting himself with stones.

And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and hurting himself with stones.

6 B ut seeing Jesus from afar off, he ran and did him homage,

But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him.

7 a nd crying with a loud voice he says, What have I to do with thee, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure thee by God, torment me not.

Crying out with a loud voice, he said, What hast thou with me, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.

8 F or he said to him, Come forth, unclean spirit, out of the man.

For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

9 A nd he asked him, What is thy name? And he says to him, Legion is my name, because we are many.

And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion, for we are many.

10 A nd he besought him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

And he besought him much that he would not send him away out of that country.

11 N ow there was there just at the mountain a great herd of swine feeding;

Now near unto the mountains there was a great herd of swine feeding,

12 a nd they besought him, saying, Send us into the swine that we may enter into them.

and all those devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.

13 A nd Jesus allowed them. And the unclean spirits going out entered into the swine, and the herd rushed down the steep slope, into the sea (about two thousand), and were choked in the sea.

And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out and entered into the swine, and the herd fell over a cliff into the sea (they were about two thousand) and were choked in the sea.

14 A nd those that were feeding them fled and reported it in the city and in the country. And they went out to see what it was that had taken place.

And those that fed the swine fled and told it in the city and in the country. And people went out to see what it was that had happened.

15 A nd they come to Jesus, and they see the possessed of demons sitting clothed and sensible, that had had the legion: and they were afraid.

And they come to Jesus and see him that was tormented by the demon and had the legion sitting and clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.

16 A nd they that had seen related to them how it had happened to the possessed by demons, and concerning the swine.

And those that saw it told them what happened to him that had the demon and also concerning the swine.

17 A nd they began to beg him to depart from their coasts.

And they began to plead with him to depart out of their borders.

18 A nd as he went on board ship, the man that had been possessed by demons besought him that he might be with him.

And as he was entering into the ship, he that had been troubled by the demon besought him that he might be with him.

19 A nd he suffered him not, but says to him, Go to thine home to thine own people, and tell them how great things the Lord has done for thee, and has had mercy on thee.

But Jesus suffered him not but said unto him, Go home to thy friends and family and tell them what great things the Lord has done with thee and how he has had mercy on thee.

20 A nd he went away and began to proclaim in the Decapolis how great things Jesus had done for him; and all wondered.

And he went and began to publish in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done with him, and everyone marveled.

21 A nd Jesus having passed over in the ship again to the other side, a great crowd gathered to him; and he was by the sea.

¶ And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, a great multitude gathered unto him, and he was near the sea.

22 A nd there comes one of the rulers of the synagogue, by name Jairus, and seeing him, falls down at his feet;

And one of the princes of the synagogue came, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet

23 a nd he besought him much, saying, My little daughter is at extremity; that thou shouldest come and lay thy hands upon her so that she may be healed, and may live.

and besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lies at the point of death; come and lay thy hands on her that she may be saved, and she shall live.

24 A nd he went with him, and a large crowd followed him and pressed on him.

And Jesus went with him; and a great multitude followed him and thronged him.

25 A nd a certain woman who had had a flux of blood twelve years,

And a certain woman, who had an issue of blood twelve years

26 a nd had suffered much under many physicians, and had spent everything she had and had found no advantage from it, but had rather got worse,

and had suffered many things of many physicians and had spent all that she had and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse;

27 h aving heard concerning Jesus, came in the crowd behind and touched his clothes;

when she had heard of Jesus, came from behind among the multitude and touched his garment.

28 f or she said, If I shall touch but his clothes I shall be healed.

For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be saved.

29 A nd immediately her fountain of blood was dried up, and she knew in her body that she was cured from the scourge.

And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

30 A nd immediately Jesus, knowing in himself the power that had gone out of him, turning round in the crowd said, Who has touched my clothes?

And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned to the crowd and said, Who touched my clothes?

31 A nd his disciples said to him, Thou seest the crowd pressing on thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?

And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee and sayest thou, Who touched me?

32 A nd he looked round about to see her who had done this.

And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

33 B ut the woman, frightened and trembling, knowing what had taken place in her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him and told him all the truth.

34 A nd he said to her, Daughter, thy faith has healed thee; go in peace, and be well of thy scourge.

And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith has made thee saved; go in peace and remain whole of thy plague.

35 W hile he was yet speaking, they come from the ruler of the synagogue's, saying, Thy daughter has died, why troublest thou the teacher any further?

¶ While he yet spoke, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain who said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?

36 B ut Jesus, having heard the word spoken, says to the ruler of the synagogue, Fear not; only believe.

As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he said unto the prince of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.

37 A nd he suffered no one to accompany him save Peter and James, and John the brother of James.

And he suffered no one to follow him, except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

38 A nd he comes to the house of the ruler of the synagogue, and sees the tumult, and people weeping and wailing greatly.

And they came to the house of the prince of the synagogue and saw the tumult and those that wept and wailed greatly.

39 A nd entering in he says to them, Why do ye make a tumult and weep? the child has not died, but sleeps.

And when he was come in, he said unto them, Why make ye this ado and weep? The damsel is not dead, but sleeps.

40 A nd they derided him. But he, having put all out, takes with the father of the child, and the mother, and those that were with him, and enters in where the child was lying.

And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he took the father and the mother of the damsel and those that were with him and entered in where the damsel was lying.

41 A nd having laid hold of the hand of the child, he says to her, Talitha koumi, which is, interpreted, Damsel, I say to thee, Arise.

And taking the damsel by the hand, he said unto her, Talitha cumi, which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.

42 A nd immediately the damsel arose and walked, for she was twelve years old. And they were astonished with great astonishment.

And straightway the damsel arose and walked, for she was twelve years old. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.

43 A nd he charged them much that no one should know this; and he desired that should be given her to eat.

And he charged them straitly that no one should know it and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
