1 T hey came to the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.

¶ And they came over unto the other side of the sea, into the country of the Gadarenes.

2 W hen he had come out of the boat, immediately a man with an unclean spirit met him out of the tombs.

And when he was come out of the ship, immediately there met him a man of the tombs, with an unclean spirit,

3 H e lived in the tombs. Nobody could bind him any more, not even with chains,

who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, no, not with chains,

4 b ecause he had been often bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been torn apart by him, and the fetters broken in pieces. Nobody had the strength to tame him.

because many times he had been bound with fetters and chains, and the chains had been broken in pieces by him, and the fetters shattered; neither could anyone tame him.

5 A lways, night and day, in the tombs and in the mountains, he was crying out, and cutting himself with stones.

And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and hurting himself with stones.

6 W hen he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and bowed down to him,

But when he saw Jesus afar off, he ran and worshipped him.

7 a nd crying out with a loud voice, he said, “What have I to do with you, Jesus, you Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, don’t torment me.”

Crying out with a loud voice, he said, What hast thou with me, Jesus, thou Son of the most high God? I adjure thee by God, that thou torment me not.

8 F or he said to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!”

For he said unto him, Come out of the man, thou unclean spirit.

9 H e asked him, “What is your name?” He said to him, “My name is Legion, for we are many.”

And he asked him, What is thy name? And he answered, saying, My name is Legion, for we are many.

10 H e begged him much that he would not send them away out of the country.

And he besought him much that he would not send him away out of that country.

11 N ow on the mountainside there was a great herd of pigs feeding.

Now near unto the mountains there was a great herd of swine feeding,

12 A ll the demons begged him, saying, “Send us into the pigs, that we may enter into them.”

and all those devils besought him, saying, Send us into the swine, that we may enter into them.

13 A t once Jesus gave them permission. The unclean spirits came out and entered into the pigs. The herd of about two thousand rushed down the steep bank into the sea, and they were drowned in the sea.

And forthwith Jesus gave them leave. And the unclean spirits went out and entered into the swine, and the herd fell over a cliff into the sea (they were about two thousand) and were choked in the sea.

14 T hose who fed them fled, and told it in the city and in the country. The people came to see what it was that had happened.

And those that fed the swine fled and told it in the city and in the country. And people went out to see what it was that had happened.

15 T hey came to Jesus, and saw him who had been possessed by demons sitting, clothed, and in his right mind, even him who had the legion; and they were afraid.

And they come to Jesus and see him that was tormented by the demon and had the legion sitting and clothed and in his right mind; and they were afraid.

16 T hose who saw it declared to them what happened to him who was possessed by demons, and about the pigs.

And those that saw it told them what happened to him that had the demon and also concerning the swine.

17 T hey began to beg him to depart from their region.

And they began to plead with him to depart out of their borders.

18 A s he was entering into the boat, he who had been possessed by demons begged him that he might be with him.

And as he was entering into the ship, he that had been troubled by the demon besought him that he might be with him.

19 H e didn’t allow him, but said to him, “Go to your house, to your friends, and tell them what great things the Lord has done for you, and how he had mercy on you.”

But Jesus suffered him not but said unto him, Go home to thy friends and family and tell them what great things the Lord has done with thee and how he has had mercy on thee.

20 H e went his way, and began to proclaim in Decapolis how Jesus had done great things for him, and everyone marveled.

And he went and began to publish in Decapolis what great things Jesus had done with him, and everyone marveled.

21 W hen Jesus had crossed back over in the boat to the other side, a great multitude was gathered to him; and he was by the sea.

¶ And when Jesus was passed over again by ship unto the other side, a great multitude gathered unto him, and he was near the sea.

22 B ehold, one of the rulers of the synagogue, Jairus by name, came; and seeing him, he fell at his feet,

And one of the princes of the synagogue came, Jairus by name; and when he saw him, he fell at his feet

23 a nd begged him much, saying, “My little daughter is at the point of death. Please come and lay your hands on her, that she may be made healthy, and live.”

and besought him greatly, saying, My little daughter lies at the point of death; come and lay thy hands on her that she may be saved, and she shall live.

24 H e went with him, and a great multitude followed him, and they pressed upon him on all sides.

And Jesus went with him; and a great multitude followed him and thronged him.

25 A certain woman, who had an issue of blood for twelve years,

And a certain woman, who had an issue of blood twelve years

26 a nd had suffered many things by many physicians, and had spent all that she had, and was no better, but rather grew worse,

and had suffered many things of many physicians and had spent all that she had and was nothing bettered, but rather grew worse;

27 h aving heard the things concerning Jesus, came up behind him in the crowd, and touched his clothes.

when she had heard of Jesus, came from behind among the multitude and touched his garment.

28 F or she said, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be made well.”

For she said, If I may touch but his clothes, I shall be saved.

29 I mmediately the flow of her blood was dried up, and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction.

And straightway the fountain of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of that plague.

30 I mmediately Jesus, perceiving in himself that the power had gone out from him, turned around in the crowd, and asked, “Who touched my clothes?”

And Jesus, immediately knowing in himself that virtue had gone out of him, turned to the crowd and said, Who touched my clothes?

31 H is disciples said to him, “You see the multitude pressing against you, and you say, ‘Who touched me?’”

And his disciples said unto him, Thou seest the multitude thronging thee and sayest thou, Who touched me?

32 H e looked around to see her who had done this thing.

And he looked round about to see her that had done this thing.

33 B ut the woman, fearing and trembling, knowing what had been done to her, came and fell down before him, and told him all the truth.

But the woman fearing and trembling, knowing what was done in her, came and fell down before him and told him all the truth.

34 H e said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well. Go in peace, and be cured of your disease.”

And he said unto her, Daughter, thy faith has made thee saved; go in peace and remain whole of thy plague.

35 W hile he was still speaking, people came from the synagogue ruler’s house saying, “Your daughter is dead. Why bother the Teacher any more?”

¶ While he yet spoke, there came from the ruler of the synagogue’s house certain who said, Thy daughter is dead: why troublest thou the Master any further?

36 B ut Jesus, when he heard the message spoken, immediately said to the ruler of the synagogue, “Don’t be afraid, only believe.”

As soon as Jesus heard the word that was spoken, he said unto the prince of the synagogue, Be not afraid, only believe.

37 H e allowed no one to follow him, except Peter, James, and John the brother of James.

And he suffered no one to follow him, except Peter, and James, and John the brother of James.

38 H e came to the synagogue ruler’s house, and he saw an uproar, weeping, and great wailing.

And they came to the house of the prince of the synagogue and saw the tumult and those that wept and wailed greatly.

39 W hen he had entered in, he said to them, “Why do you make an uproar and weep? The child is not dead, but is asleep.”

And when he was come in, he said unto them, Why make ye this ado and weep? The damsel is not dead, but sleeps.

40 T hey ridiculed him. But he, having put them all out, took the father of the child, her mother, and those who were with him, and went in where the child was lying.

And they laughed him to scorn. But when he had put them all out, he took the father and the mother of the damsel and those that were with him and entered in where the damsel was lying.

41 T aking the child by the hand, he said to her, “Talitha cumi!” which means, being interpreted, “Girl, I tell you, get up!”

And taking the damsel by the hand, he said unto her, Talitha cumi, which is, being interpreted, Damsel, I say unto thee, arise.

42 I mmediately the girl rose up and walked, for she was twelve years old. They were amazed with great amazement.

And straightway the damsel arose and walked, for she was twelve years old. And they were astonished with a great astonishment.

43 H e strictly ordered them that no one should know this, and commanded that something should be given to her to eat.

And he charged them straitly that no one should know it and commanded that something should be given her to eat.
