1 W e give thanks to you, God. We give thanks, for your Name is near. Men tell about your wondrous works.
¶ Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks, for that thy name is near, thy wondrous works declare.
2 W hen I choose the appointed time, I will judge blamelessly.
When I shall receive the congregation, I will judge uprightly.
3 T he earth and all its inhabitants quake. I firmly hold its pillars. Selah.
The earth and all its inhabitants are dissolved; I bore up the pillars of it. Selah.
4 I said to the arrogant, “Don’t boast!” I said to the wicked, “Don’t lift up the horn.
I said unto the fools, Do not deal foolishly and to the wicked, Do not lift up the horn:
5 D on’t lift up your horn on high. Don’t speak with a stiff neck.”
Do not lift up your horn on high; speak not with a stiff neck.
6 F or neither from the east, nor from the west, nor yet from the south, comes exaltation.
¶ For promotion comes neither from the east, nor from the west, nor from the desert.
7 B ut God is the judge. He puts down one, and lifts up another.
But God is the judge; he puts down one and sets up another.
8 F or in Yahweh’s hand there is a cup, full of foaming wine mixed with spices. He pours it out. Indeed the wicked of the earth drink and drink it to its very dregs.
For the cup is in the hand of the LORD, and the wine is red; it is full of mixture; and he pours out of the same; yea, the dregs thereof, shall wring out and swallow up all the wicked of the earth.
9 B ut I will declare this forever: I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
But I will declare for ever; I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
10 I will cut off all the horns of the wicked, but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.
And I will cut off all the horns of the wicked, but the horns of the righteous shall be exalted.
