1 W e give thanks to you, God. We give thanks, for your Name is near. Men tell about your wondrous works.
We give thanks to You, O God. We give thanks that Your name is near. Men tell about the great things You have done.
2 W hen I choose the appointed time, I will judge blamelessly.
You say, “When the right time has come, I will be right and fair in deciding who is guilty or not.
3 T he earth and all its inhabitants quake. I firmly hold its pillars. Selah.
When the earth and all its people shake, it is I Who will hold it together.
4 I said to the arrogant, “Don’t boast!” I said to the wicked, “Don’t lift up the horn.
I said to the proud, ‘Do not speak with pride.’ And I said to the sinful, ‘Do not lift up the horn.
5 D on’t lift up your horn on high. Don’t speak with a stiff neck.”
Do not lift your horn up high. Do not speak in your pride.’”
6 F or neither from the east, nor from the west, nor yet from the south, comes exaltation.
For honor does not come from the east or the west or from the desert.
7 B ut God is the judge. He puts down one, and lifts up another.
But God is the One Who decides. He puts down one and brings respect to another.
8 F or in Yahweh’s hand there is a cup, full of foaming wine mixed with spices. He pours it out. Indeed the wicked of the earth drink and drink it to its very dregs.
For there is a cup in the Lord’s hand. It is full of strong wine that is well mixed. He pours out from it, and all the sinful people of the earth must drink all of it.
9 B ut I will declare this forever: I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
But as for me, I will tell of it forever. I will sing praises to the God of Jacob.
10 I will cut off all the horns of the wicked, but the horns of the righteous shall be lifted up.
He will cut off all the horns of the sinful. But the horns of those who are right with God will be lifted up.
