1 D avid again gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand.
¶ Again, David gathered together all the chosen of Israel, thirty thousand.
2 D avid arose, and went with all the people who were with him, from Baale Judah, to bring up from there God’s ark, which is called by the Name, even the name of Yahweh of Armies who sits above the cherubim.
And David arose and went with all the people that were with him from Baale of Judah to bring up from there the ark of God upon which the name of the LORD of the hosts is invoked, who dwells there between the cherubim.
3 T hey set God’s ark on a new cart, and brought it out of Abinadab’s house that was on the hill; and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drove the new cart.
And they set the ark of God upon a new cart and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah, and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab drove the new cart.
4 T hey brought it out of Abinadab’s house, which was in the hill, with God’s ark; and Ahio went before the ark.
And when they brought it out of the house of Abinadab, which was at Gibeah, with the ark of God, Ahio went before the ark.
5 D avid and all the house of Israel played before Yahweh with all kinds of instruments made of cypress wood, with harps, with stringed instruments, with tambourines, with castanets, and with cymbals.
And David and all the house of Israel danced before the LORD with all manner of instruments made of fir wood, even on harps and on psalteries and on timbrels and on cornets and on cymbals.
6 W hen they came to the threshing floor of Nacon, Uzzah reached for God’s ark, and took hold of it; for the cattle stumbled.
¶ And when they came to Nachon’s threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God and took hold of it, for the oxen shook it.
7 Y ahweh’s anger burned against Uzzah; and God struck him there for his error; and he died there by God’s ark.
And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah, and God smote him there for his effrontery, and there he died by the ark of God.
8 D avid was displeased, because Yahweh had broken out against Uzzah; and he called that place Perez Uzzah, to this day.
And David was grieved because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzzah, and he called the name of the place Perezuzzah to this day.
9 D avid was afraid of Yahweh that day; and he said, “How could Yahweh’s ark come to me?”
And David was afraid of the LORD that day and said, How shall the ark of the LORD come to me?
10 S o David would not move Yahweh’s ark to be with him in David’s city; but David carried it aside into Obed-Edom the Gittite’s house.
So David would not remove the ark of the LORD unto him into the city of David, but David carried it aside into the house of Obededom, the Gittite.
11 Y ahweh’s ark remained in Obed-Edom the Gittite’s house three months; and Yahweh blessed Obed-Edom and all his house.
And the ark of the LORD continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months; and the LORD blessed Obededom, and all his household.
12 K ing David was told, “Yahweh has blessed the house of Obed-Edom, and all that belongs to him, because of God’s ark.” So David went and brought up God’s ark from the house of Obed-Edom into David’s city with joy.
¶ And it was told King David, saying, The LORD has blessed the house of Obededom and all that pertains unto him because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.
13 W hen those who bore Yahweh’s ark had gone six paces, he sacrificed an ox and a fattened calf.
And it was so that when those that bore the ark of the LORD had gone six paces, he sacrificed oxen and fatlings.
14 D avid danced before Yahweh with all his might; and David was clothed in a linen ephod.
And David danced before the LORD with all his might, and David was girded with a linen ephod.
15 S o David and all the house of Israel brought up Yahweh’s ark with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.
So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting and with the sound of the shofar.
16 A s Yahweh’s ark came into David’s city, Michal the daughter of Saul looked out through the window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before Yahweh; and she despised him in her heart.
And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal, Saul’s daughter, looked through a window and saw King David leaping and dancing before the LORD, and she despised him in her heart.
17 T hey brought in Yahweh’s ark, and set it in its place, in the middle of the tent that David had pitched for it; and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before Yahweh.
And they brought in the ark of the LORD and set it in its place, in the midst of the tent that David had pitched for it, and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.
18 W hen David had finished offering the burnt offering and the peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of Yahweh of Armies.
And as soon as David had finished offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of the hosts.
19 H e gave to all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, both to men and women, to everyone a portion of bread, dates, and raisins. So all the people departed, each to his own house.
And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, to the men as well to the women, to each one a cake of bread and a good piece of flesh and a flagon of wine. So all the people departed each one to his house.
20 T hen David returned to bless his household. Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, “How glorious the king of Israel was today, who uncovered himself today in the eyes of the servants of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!”
¶ Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal, the daughter of Saul came out to meet David and said, How glorious was the king of Israel today, who uncovered himself today in the eyes of the handmaids of his slaves as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovers himself!
21 D avid said to Michal, “It was before Yahweh, who chose me above your father, and above all his house, to appoint me prince over the people of Yahweh, over Israel. Therefore I will celebrate before Yahweh.
Then David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, who chose me over thy father and over all his house to appoint me prince over the people of the LORD, over Israel; therefore, I will dance before the LORD.
22 I will be yet more vile than this, and will be base in my own sight. But of the servants of whom you have spoken, they will honor me.”
And I will yet be more vile than thus and will be base in my own sight and before the maidservants whom thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour.
23 M ichal the daughter of Saul had no child to the day of her death.
Therefore, Michal, the daughter of Saul, had no children unto the day of her death.
