1 John 5 ~ 1 John 5

1 W hoever believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God. Whoever loves the Father also loves the child who is born of him.

¶ Whosoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God; and anyone that loves him that begat also loves him that is born of him.

2 B y this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep his commandments.

In this we know that we love the sons of God, when we love God and keep his commandments.

3 F or this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments. His commandments are not grievous.

For this is the charity of God, that we keep his commandments, and his commandments are not grievous.

4 F or whatever is born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world: your faith.

For whatsoever is born of God overcomes the world; and this is the victory that overcomes the world, even our faith.

5 W ho is he who overcomes the world, but he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

Who is he that overcomes the world, but he that believes that Jesus is the Son of God?

6 T his is he who came by water and blood, Jesus Christ; not with the water only, but with the water and the blood. It is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.

¶ This is Jesus, the Christ, who came by water and blood; not by water only, but by water and blood. And the Spirit is he that bears witness, because the Spirit is the truth.

7 F or there are three who testify:

For there are three that bear witness in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Spirit; and these three are one.

8 t he Spirit, the water, and the blood; and the three agree as one.

And there are three that bear witness on earth, the Spirit and the water and the blood; and these three agree in one.

9 I f we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater; for this is God’s testimony which he has testified concerning his Son.

If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he has testified of his Son.

10 H e who believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. He who doesn’t believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has given concerning his Son.

¶ He that believes in the Son of God has the witness of God in himself; he that does not believe God has made God a liar; because he does not believe the witness that God has testified of his Son.

11 T he testimony is this, that God gave to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

And this is the witness, that God has given eternal life to us, and this life is in his Son.

12 H e who has the Son has the life. He who doesn’t have God’s Son doesn’t have the life.

He that has the Son has life; and he that does not have the Son of God does not have life.

13 T hese things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.

These things I have written unto you that believe in the name of the Son of God, that ye may know that ye have eternal life and that ye may believe in the name of the Son of God.

14 T his is the boldness which we have toward him, that, if we ask anything according to his will, he listens to us.

¶ And this is the confidence that we have in God, that, if we ask any thing according to his will, he hears us:

15 A nd if we know that he listens to us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions which we have asked of him.

And if we know that he hears us in whatever we ask, we also know that we have the petitions that we asked of him.

16 I f anyone sees his brother sinning a sin not leading to death, he shall ask, and God will give him life for those who sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death. I don’t say that he should make a request concerning this.

If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask God, and he shall give him life that is, unto those that do not sin unto death. There is sin unto death, for which I do not say that you should pray.

17 A ll unrighteousness is sin, and there is a sin not leading to death.

All unrighteousness is sin, but there is a sin not unto death.

18 W e know that whoever is born of God doesn’t sin, but he who was born of God keeps himself, and the evil one doesn’t touch him.

¶ We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he that is begotten of God keeps himself, and the wicked one does not touch him.

19 W e know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lies in wickedness.

20 W e know that the Son of God has come, and has given us an understanding, that we know him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.

But we know that the Son of God is come and has given us understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.

21 L ittle children, keep yourselves from idols.

Little children, keep yourselves from idols. Amen.
