¶ Now the Spirit speaks expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, listening to spirits of error and doctrines of demons;

2 s peaking lies in hypocrisy, cauterised as to their own conscience,

that in hypocrisy shall speak lies; having their conscience seared as with a hot iron;

3 f orbidding to marry, to abstain from meats, which God has created for receiving with thanksgiving for them who are faithful and know the truth.

they shall forbid to marry and shall command men to abstain from foods, which God has created to be received with thanksgiving by those who are faithful and have known the truth.

4 F or every creature of God good, and nothing to be rejected, being received with thanksgiving;

For everything that God created is good, and nothing is to be refused, if it is received with thanksgiving,

for it is sanctified by the word of God and prayer.

6 L aying these things before the brethren, thou wilt be a good minister of Christ Jesus, nourished with the words of the faith and of the good teaching which thou hast fully followed up.

¶ If thou put these things before the brethren, thou shalt be a good minister of Jesus Christ, nourished up in the words of faith and of good doctrine, unto which thou hast attained.

7 B ut profane and old wives' fables avoid, but exercise thyself unto piety;

But refuse profane and old wives’ fables, and exercise thyself rather unto godliness.

8 f or bodily exercise is profitable for a little, but piety is profitable for everything, having promise of life, of the present one, and of that to come.

For bodily exercise profits a little, but godliness is profitable unto all things, having promise of the life that now is and of that which is to come.

The Word is faithful and worthy of acceptation by all.

10 f or, for this we labour and suffer reproach, because we hope in a living God, who is preserver of all men, specially of those that believe.

For this we both labour and suffer reproach, because we trust in the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of those that believe.

11 E njoin and teach these things.

Command and teach this.

12 L et no one despise thy youth, but be a model of the believers, in word, in conduct, in love, in faith, in purity.

Let no man despise thy youth, but be thou an example of the faithful in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

13 T ill I come, give thyself to reading, to exhortation, to teaching.

Until I come, occupy thyself reading, exhorting, teaching.

14 B e not negligent of the gift in thee, which has been given to thee through prophecy, with imposition of the hands of the elderhood.

Neglect not the gift that is in thee, which is given unto thee to prophesy, through the laying on of the hands of the elders.

15 O ccupy thyself with these things; be wholly in them, that thy progress may be manifest to all.

Occupy thyself in these things with care, for in this is everything, that thy profiting may be manifest unto all.

16 G ive heed to thyself and to the teaching; continue in them; for, doing this, thou shalt save both thyself and those that hear thee.

Take heed unto thyself and unto the doctrine; be diligent in this, for in doing so thou shalt both save thyself and those that hear thee.
