1 C oncerning Moab. Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Woe unto Nebo! for it is spoiled; Kirjathaim is put to shame, it is taken; Misgab is put to shame and dismayed.
¶ Against Moab thus hath the LORD of the hosts, the God of Israel said; Woe unto Nebo! for it is destroyed; it is confounded; Kiriathaim is taken; Misgab is confounded and dismayed.
2 M oab's praise is no more; in Heshbon they have devised evil against her: Come, and let us cut her off from a nation. Thou also, O Madmen, shalt be cut down; the sword shall pursue thee.
Moab shall no longer be praised; they have devised evil against Heshbon, saying, Come, and let us cut it off from being a nation. Also thou shalt be cut down, O Madmen; the sword shall pursue thee.
3 A voice of crying from Horonaim; wasting and great destruction!
A voice of crying shall be from Horonaim, spoiling and great destruction.
4 M oab is destroyed; her little ones have caused a cry to be heard.

5 F or by the ascent of Luhith continual weeping shall go up; for in the descent of Horonaim is heard the anguish of the cry of destruction.
For in the ascending road of Luhith he that weeps shall go up weeping; for in the descending road of Horonaim the enemies have heard a cry of destruction.
6 F lee, save your lives, and be like a shrub in the wilderness.
Flee, save your lives, and be like the heath in the wilderness.
7 F or because thou hast confided in thy works and in thy treasures, thou also shalt be taken, and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity, his priests and his princes together.
For because thou hast trusted in thy works; in thy treasures, thou shalt also be taken; and Chemosh shall go forth into captivity with his priests and his princes together.
8 A nd the waster shall come upon every city, that not a city shall escape; and the valley shall perish, and the plateau shall be destroyed: as Jehovah hath said.
And the spoiler shall come upon every city, and no city shall escape; the valley also shall perish, and the plain shall be destroyed as the LORD has spoken.
9 G ive wings unto Moab, that she may flee and get away; and the cities thereof shall become a desolation, without inhabitant.

10 C ursed be he that doeth the work of Jehovah negligently, and cursed be he that keepeth back his sword from blood!

11 M oab hath been at ease from his youth, and hath settled on his lees; he hath not been emptied from vessel to vessel, neither hath he gone into captivity: therefore his taste hath remained in him, and his scent is not changed.

12 T herefore behold, days come, saith Jehovah, that I will send unto him pourers that shall pour him off, and shall empty his vessels, and break in pieces his flagons.
Therefore, behold, the days come, said the LORD, that I will send unto him captors that shall take him captive and shall empty his vessels and break his wineskins.
13 A nd Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh, as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel, their confidence.
And Moab shall be ashamed of Chemosh as the house of Israel was ashamed of Bethel their confidence.
14 H ow do ye say, We are mighty, and men of valour for the war?

15 M oab is laid waste, and his cities are gone up, and his chosen young men are gone down to the slaughter, saith the King, whose name is Jehovah of hosts.

16 T he calamity of Moab is near to come, and his affliction hasteth fast.

18 C ome down from glory and sit in the drought, O inhabitress, daughter of Dibon; the spoiler of Moab is come up against thee, thy strongholds hath he destroyed.
Thou daughter that dost inhabit Dibon, come down from thy glory, and sit in thirst; for the spoiler of Moab has come against thee and has dissipated thy strong holds.
19 S tand by the way, and watch, inhabitress of Aroer; ask him that fleeth, and her that escapeth; say, What is done?

20 M oab is put to shame; for he is broken down: howl and cry; tell it in Arnon, that Moab is laid waste.

21 A nd judgment is come upon the country of the plateau; upon Holon, and upon Jahzah, and upon Mephaath;

22 a nd upon Dibon, and upon Nebo, and upon Beth-diblathaim;

and upon Kiriathaim, and upon Bethgamul, and upon Bethmeon,
24 a nd upon Kerijoth, and upon Bozrah, and upon all the cities of the land of Moab, far and near.

25 T he horn of Moab is cut off, and his arm is broken, saith Jehovah.

26 M ake him drunken, for he magnified himself against Jehovah; and Moab shall wallow in his vomit, and he also shall be in derision.

27 F or was not Israel a derision unto thee? Was he found among thieves, that as oft as thou didst speak of him, thou didst shake the head?
For was not Israel a derision unto thee, as if he were found among thieves? for since thou hast spoken of him, thou hast slipped.
28 L eave the cities, and dwell in the rocks, ye inhabitants of Moab, and be like the dove, that maketh her nest in the sides of the cave's mouth.
O ye that dwell in Moab, leave the cities and dwell in the rock and be like the dove that makes her nest in the sides of the hole’s mouth.
29 W e have heard of the arrogance of Moab,— very proud;—his loftiness, and his arrogance, and his pride, and the haughtiness of his heart.

30 I know his wrath, saith Jehovah; his pratings are vain: they do not as.
I know his wrath, saith the LORD, but it shall have no effect; his lies shall not be to his advantage.
31 T herefore will I howl for Moab, and I will cry out for all Moab: for the men of Kir-heres shall there be moaning.
Therefore I will weep over Moab, and I will cry out for all Moab; my heart shall mourn for the men of Kirheres.
32 O vine of Sibmah, I will weep for thee with more than the weeping of Jaazer: thy shoots passed over the sea, they reached to the sea of Jaazer. The spoiler is fallen upon thy summer fruits and upon thy vintage.

33 A nd joy and gladness is taken away from the fruitful field and from the land of Moab; and I have caused wine to fail from the winepresses: they shall no more tread with shouting; the shouting shall be no shouting.
And joy and gladness shall be taken from the plentiful field and from the land of Moab; and I shall cause wine to cease from the winepresses; no one shall tread with song; their song shall be no song.
34 B ecause of the cry from Heshbon, unto Elaleh, unto Jahaz have they uttered their voice, from Zoar unto Horonaim, Eglath-shelishijah: for even the waters of Nimrim shall become desolations.
The cry, from Heshbon even unto Elealeh, and even unto Jahaz, they have uttered their voice; from Zoar even unto Horonaim, as a heifer of three years old; for the waters of Nimrim shall also be destroyed.
35 A nd I will cause to cease in Moab, saith Jehovah, him that offereth in the high place, and him that burneth incense to his gods.
Moreover I will cause to cease in Moab, saith the LORD, him that offers upon an altar and him that burns incense to his gods.
36 T herefore my heart shall sound for Moab like pipes, and my heart shall sound like pipes for the men of Kir-heres; because the abundance that he hath gotten is perished.
Therefore my heart shall sound like flutes for Moab, and my heart shall sound like flutes for the men of Kirheres because the riches that he has gotten are perished.
37 F or every head is bald, and every beard clipped; upon all the hands are cuttings, and upon the loins sackcloth.
For every head shall be bald, and every beard shaved: upon all the hands shall be cuttings, and upon all the loins sackcloth.
38 I t is wholly lamentation upon all the housetops of Moab, and in the public places thereof; for I have broken Moab, like a vessel wherein is no pleasure, saith Jehovah.
There shall be lamentation generally upon all the housetops of Moab and in the streets thereof; for I have broken Moab like a vessel in which there is no pleasure, said the LORD.
39 T hey howl, How is it broken down! how hath Moab turned the back with shame! And Moab shall be a derision and a terror to all that are round about him.
They shall howl, saying, How is it broken down! how has Moab turned the back with shame! so shall Moab be a derision and a dismaying to all those about him.
40 F or thus saith Jehovah: Behold, he shall fly as an eagle, and shall spread forth his wings over Moab.
For thus hath the LORD said: Behold, he shall fly as an eagle and shall spread his wings over Moab.
41 K erijoth is taken, and the strongholds are seized, and at that day the heart of the mighty men of Moab shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
The cities are taken, and the strong holds are taken, and the mighty men’s hearts in Moab at that day shall be as the heart of a woman in her pangs.
42 A nd Moab shall be destroyed from being a people, because he hath magnified himself against Jehovah.
And Moab shall be destroyed from being a people because he has magnified himself against the LORD.
43 F ear, and the pit, and the snare shall be upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, saith Jehovah.
Fear and the pit and the snare shall be upon thee, O inhabitant of Moab, said the LORD.
44 H e that fleeth from the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that getteth up out of the pit shall be taken in the snare: for I will bring upon her, upon Moab, the year of their visitation, saith Jehovah.
He that flees from the fear shall fall into the pit; and he that gets up out of the pit shall be taken in the snare; for I will bring upon him, even upon Moab, the year of their visitation, said the LORD.
45 T hey that fled stood under the shadow of Heshbon powerless; for a fire hath come forth from Heshbon, and a flame from the midst of Sihon, and hath consumed the corner of Moab, and the crown of the head of the sons of tumult.
Those that fled from the force stood under the shadow of Heshbon; because fire came forth out of Heshbon and a flame from the midst of Sihon and burned the corner of Moab and the crown of the head of the rebellious sons.
46 W oe to thee, Moab! The people of Chemosh is undone; for thy sons are taken away in captivity, and thy daughters are captives.
Woe be unto thee, O Moab! the people of Chemosh have perished; for thy sons are taken prisoners into captivity, and thy daughters are captives.
47 B ut I will turn the captivity of Moab at the end of the days, saith Jehovah. Thus far is the judgement of Moab.
Yet I will turn again the captivity of Moab in the last of the times, said the LORD. Thus far is the judgment of Moab.
