1 D upă moartea lui Ahab, Moab s-a răsculat împotriva lui Israel.

¶ Then Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab.

2 S -a întâmplat că Ahazia a căzut prin grilajul odăii lui de sus din palatul Samariei şi a zăcut la pat. Atunci a trimis nişte mesageri, zicându-le: „Duceţi-vă şi întrebaţi-l pe Baal-Zebub, zeul Ekronului, dacă mă voi vindeca de boala aceasta.“

And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria and was sick, and he sent messengers and said unto them, Go, enquire of Baalzebub, the god of Ekron, whether I shall recover of this disease.

3 D ar un înger al Domnului i-a zis lui Ilie tişbitul: „Scoală-te, du-te să-i întâlneşti pe mesagerii regelui Samariei şi spune-le: «Oare nu este Dumnezeu în Israel, de mergeţi să-l întrebaţi pe Baal-Zebub, zeul Ekronului?

But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah, the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and thou shalt say unto them, Is there no God in Israel, that ye go to enquire of Baalzebub, the god of Ekron?

4 D e aceea aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ‘Nu te vei mai da jos din patul în care te-ai suit, ci vei muri cu siguranţă!’»“ Apoi Ilie a plecat.

Now therefore, thus hath the LORD said, Thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. And Elijah departed.

5 C ând mesagerii s-au întors la rege, el i-a întrebat: – De ce v-aţi întors?

And when the messengers turned back unto him, he said unto them, Why are ye now turned back?

6 – Ne-am întâlnit cu un om, i-au răspuns ei, care ne-a zis astfel: „Întoarceţi-vă la regele care v-a trimis şi spuneţi-i: «Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: ‘Oare nu este Dumnezeu în Israel, de ai trimis să-l întrebe pe Baal-Zebub, zeul Ekronului? De aceea nu te vei mai da jos din patul în care te-ai suit, ci vei muri cu siguranţă!’»“

And they said unto him, We met a man who said unto us, Go, turn again unto the king that sent you and say unto him, Thus hath the LORD said, Is there no God in Israel, that thou dost send to enquire of Baalzebub, the god of Ekron? Therefore thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.

7 – Cum arăta bărbatul care v-a întâlnit şi care v-a spus aceste cuvinte? i-a întrebat el.

Then he said unto them, What manner of man was he who came up to meet you and told you these words?

8 – Era un om îmbrăcat cu o manta de păr şi încins la mijloc cu o curea de piele, i-au răspuns ei. – Este Ilie tişbitul, a zis el.

And they answered him, He was a hairy man and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins. And he said, It is Elijah, the Tishbite.

9 A tunci a trimis la el o căpetenie peste cincizeci de oameni, împreună cu cei cincizeci de oameni ai acestuia. Căpetenia a venit la Ilie, care stătea pe vârful unui deal şi i-a zis: – Omule al lui Dumnezeu, regele îţi porunceşte să cobori!

¶ Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him, and, behold, he sat on the top of a mountain. And he spoke unto him, Man of God, the king has commanded thee to come down.

10 D ar Ilie i-a răspuns căpeteniei: – Dacă sunt un om al lui Dumnezeu, să se coboare foc din cer şi să te mistuie pe tine şi pe cei cincizeci de oameni ai tăi. Atunci s-a coborât foc din cer şi l-a mistuit pe el şi pe cei cincizeci de oameni care erau împreună cu el.

And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I am a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And fire came down from heaven, that consumed him and his fifty.

11 A poi regele a trimis o altă căpetenie peste cincizeci de oameni, împreună cu cei cincizeci de oameni ai acestuia. Căpetenia i-a zis: – Omule al lui Dumnezeu, regele îţi porunceşte să cobori repede!

Again also he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly.

12 D ar Ilie i-a răspuns: – Dacă sunt un om al lui Dumnezeu, să se coboare foc din cer şi să te mistuie pe tine şi pe cei cincizeci de oameni ai tăi. Atunci s-a coborât focul lui Dumnezeu din cer şi l-a mistuit pe el şi pe cei cincizeci de oameni care erau împreună cu el.

And Elijah answered and said unto them, If I am a man of God, let fire come down from heaven and consume thee and thy fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven and consumed him and his fifty.

13 R egele a trimis o a treia căpetenie peste cincizeci de oameni, împreună cu cei cincizeci de oameni ai acestuia. Această a treia căpetenie s-a dus şi s-a plecat pe genunchi înaintea lui Ilie şi l-a implorat zicându-i: „Omule al lui Dumnezeu, te rog, pune preţ pe viaţa mea şi pe viaţa acestor cincizeci de slujitori ai tăi!

And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up and came and fell on his knees before Elijah and besought him and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life and the life of these fifty thy slaves, be precious in thy sight.

14 Ş tim că focul care s-a coborât din ceruri le-a mistuit deja pe primele două căpetenii peste cincizeci şi pe oamenii lor, dar acum, pune preţ pe viaţa mea!“

Behold, fire has come down from heaven and burnt up the two captains of the former fifties with their fifties; therefore, let my soul now be precious in thy sight.

15 A tunci îngerul Domnului i-a zis lui Ilie: „Însoţeşte-l şi nu te teme de el!“ Ilie s-a dus îndată împreună cu el la rege.

Then the angel of the LORD said unto Elijah, Go down with him; do not be afraid of him. And he arose and went down with him unto the king.

16 E l i-a zis regelui: „Aşa vorbeşte Domnul: «Nu este în Israel Dumnezeu al Cărui cuvânt să-L poţi întreba de trimiţi mesageri să-l întrebe pe Baal-Zebub, zeul Ekronului? Pentru că ai făcut aceasta, nu te vei mai da jos din patul în care te-ai suit, ci vei muri cu siguranţă!»“

And he said unto him, Thus hath the LORD said, Forasmuch as thou hast sent messengers to enquire of Baalzebub, the god of Ekron, peradventure is there no God in Israel to enquire of his word? Therefore, thou shalt not come down off that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.

17 A hazia a murit potrivit Cuvântului Domnului pe care l-a rostit Ilie. Pentru că nu avea nici un fiu, în locul lui a devenit rege Ioram. Era al doilea an al domniei lui Iehoram, fiul lui Iehoşafat, regele lui Iuda.

So he died according to the word of the LORD which Elijah had spoken. And Jehoram (son of Ahab) reigned in his stead, in the second year of Jehoram, the son of Jehoshaphat, king of Judah, because Ahaziah had no son.

18 C elelalte fapte pe care le-a făcut Ahazia, nu sunt scrise oare în „Cartea cronicilor regilor lui Israel“?

Now the rest of the acts of Ahaziah which he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?
