1 T recuse o lungă perioadă de timp de când Domnul dăduse odihnă lui Israel din partea tuturor duşmanilor care-l înconjurau, iar Iosua era bătrân şi înaintat în vârstă.

¶ And it came to pass many days after the LORD had given rest unto Israel from all their enemies round about that Joshua waxed old and stricken in age.

2 A tunci Iosua a convocat întregul Israel, bătrânii, conducătorii, judecătorii şi căpeteniile lui şi le-a spus astfel: „Eu sunt bătrân acum şi înaintat în vârstă;

And Joshua called for all Israel and for their elders and for their princes and for their judges and for their officers and said unto them, I am old and stricken in age;

3 v oi aţi văzut ce a făcut Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, tuturor acestor neamuri, de dragul vostru, fiindcă Însuşi Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, a luptat pentru voi.

and ye have seen all that the LORD your God has done with all these Gentiles in your presence; for the LORD your God has fought for you.

4 S eminţiilor voastre le-am dat ca moştenire toate teritoriile acestor neamuri care au mai rămas, începând de la Iordan, toate neamurile pe care le-am nimicit, până la Marea cea Mare, în partea de apus.

Behold, I have divided unto you as inheritance unto your tribes all these Gentiles, those that remain as well as those that are destroyed, from the Jordan unto the great sea towards the going down of the sun.

5 Î nsuşi Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, le va izgoni dinaintea voastră. El le va îndepărta dinaintea voastră, iar voi le veţi lua ţara în stăpânire, aşa cum v-a promis Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru.

And the LORD your God, shall expel them from before you and drive them from out of your presence; and ye shall possess their lands, as the LORD your God has promised unto you.

6 P uneţi-vă toată puterea ca să păziţi şi să împliniţi toate cele scrise în Cartea Legii lui Moise, fără să vă abateţi nici la stânga, nici la dreapta.

Be ye therefore very courageous to keep and to do all that is written in the book of the law of Moses without turning aside to the right hand or to the left

7 N u vă întovărăşiţi cu neamurile acestea, care au rămas printre voi! Nu chemaţi numelor zeilor lor şi nu juraţi pe numele lor! Nu le slujiţi şi nu vă închinaţi înaintea lor,

that ye not enter in among these Gentiles that remain among you; neither make mention of the name of their gods, nor cause to swear by them, neither serve them, nor bow yourselves unto them,

8 c i rămâneţi alipiţi de Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, aşa cum aţi făcut până în ziua aceasta.

but cleave unto the LORD your God, as ye have done unto this day.

9 D omnul a izgonit dinaintea voastră neamuri mari şi puternice, astfel că nimeni nu a putut să vă stea împotrivă până în ziua aceasta.

For the LORD has driven out from before you great and strong Gentiles; and until now no one has been able to stand before your face.

10 U n singur om dintre voi punea pe fugă o mie de duşmani, fiindcă Însuşi Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, lupta pentru voi, aşa cum vă promisese.

One man of you has chased a thousand; for the LORD your God, he himself has fought for you, as he has promised you.

11 V egheaţi deci cu luare-aminte asupra sufletelor voastre, ca să-L iubiţi pe Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru,

¶ Therefore take heed for your souls that ye love the LORD your God.

12 c ăci dacă vă veţi abate şi vă veţi alipi de rămăşiţa acestor neamuri, care au rămas printre voi, dacă vă veţi uni cu ele prin căsătorii şi veţi intra la ele şi ele la voi,

Because if ye do in any wise go back and cleave unto the remnant of these Gentiles that remain among you and shall make marriages with them and go in unto them and they to you,

13 s ă ştiţi că Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, nu va mai izgoni aceste neamuri dinaintea voastră. Ele vă vor fi atunci o cursă şi un laţ, vor fi ca un bici pe spatele vostru şi ca nişte spini în ochii voştri, până veţi pieri din această ţară bună, pe care v-a dat-o Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru.

know for a certainty that the LORD your God will no longer drive out any of these Gentiles from before you, but they shall be snares and traps unto you and scourges in your sides and thorns in your eyes until ye perish from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you.

14 I ată că se apropie vremea ca eu să mă duc pe calea pe care merge tot ce este pământesc. Recunoaşteţi din toată inima şi din tot sufletul vostru că nu a rămas neîmplinită nici una din promisiunile bune pe care vi le-a făcut Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru. Toate s-au împlinit şi nu a rămas neîmplinită nici măcar una.

And, behold, this day I am going the way of all the earth and ye know in all your hearts and in all your souls that not one word has failed of all the good things which the LORD your God spoke concerning you; all are come to pass unto you, and not one thing has failed thereof.

15 Î nsă aşa cum Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, a împlinit toate promisiunile bune pe care vi le-a făcut, tot aşa Domnul va aduce asupra voastră toate lucrurile rele despre care aţi fost avertizaţi, până când veţi fi nimiciţi din ţara aceasta bună, pe care v-a dat-o Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru.

Therefore it shall come to pass that as all the good things are come upon you, which the LORD your God promised you, so shall the LORD bring upon you all the evil things until he has destroyed you from off this good land which the LORD your God has given you

16 D acă veţi încălca legământul Domnului, Dumnezeul vostru, pe care El vi l-a poruncit şi veţi începe să slujiţi altor dumnezei şi să vă închinaţi înaintea lor, atunci Domnul se va aprinde de mânie împotriva voastră şi veţi pieri repede din ţara cea bună, pe care v-a dat-o.“

when ye shall transgress the covenant of the LORD your God, which he commanded you, going in and serving other gods and bowing yourselves to them. And the anger of the LORD shall be kindled against you, and ye shall perish quickly from off the good land which he has given unto you.
