3 C reuzetul este pentru argint şi cuptorul pentru aur, dar Cel Ce testează inima este Domnul.

¶ The fining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold, but the LORD tries the hearts.

4 C el ce face răul ascultă de buzele înşelătoare şi cel mincinos dă atenţie limbii răutăcioase.

¶ An evil doer gives heed to false lips, and a liar gives ear to the tongue which curses.

5 C ine îl batjocoreşte pe sărac Îl dispreţuieşte pe Creatorul lui; cine se bucură de o nenorocire nu va rămâne nepedepsit.

¶ Whosoever mocks the poor reproaches his Maker, and he that is glad regarding the calamity of someone else shall not go unpunished.

6 N epoţii sunt cununa bătrânilor, iar părinţii sunt slava copiilor lor.

¶ Children’s children are the crown of old men, and the honour of the children are their fathers.

¶ He that covers a transgression seeks love, but he that repeats a matter separates very friends.

10 O mustrare pătrunde mai mult pe cel priceput decât o sută de lovituri pe cel prost.

¶ Reproof is of more benefit to a wise man than a hundred stripes to a fool.

¶ To release the waters (to speak rashly) is the beginning of contention; therefore, leave off strife before it gets started.

15 C el ce îndreptăţeşte pe cel rău şi cel ce condamnă pe cel drept sunt amândoi o urâciune înaintea Domnului.

¶ He that justifies the wicked and he that condemns the just, even they both are abomination to the LORD.

16 C e folos au banii în mâna celui prost? Ca să cumpere înţelepciunea? Dar n-are minte …

¶ Of what good is the price to buy wisdom in the hand of the fool, seeing he has no heart to understand?

17 P rietenul iubeşte oricând, iar fratele s-a născut să fie alături în necaz.

¶ A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for adversity.

18 O mul nechibzuit dă garanţie şi girează pentru semenul său.

¶ A man void of understanding strikes hands and becomes surety in the presence of his friend.

19 C ine iubeşte cearta iubeşte păcatul; cine construieşte o poartă înaltă îşi atrage distrugerea.

¶ Transgression loves him that loves strife, and he that exalts his gate seeks destruction.

20 C el cu inima necinstită nu are parte de bine şi cel cu limba înşelătoare cade în necaz.

¶ He that has a perverse heart shall never find good, and he that stirs up trouble with his tongue shall fall into evil.

21 C ine naşte un prost va avea întristare şi tatăl unui nebun nu va avea bucurie.

¶ He that begets a fool does it to his sorrow, and the father of a fool shall have no joy.

22 O inimă veselă este un bun leac, dar un duh mâhnit usucă oasele.

¶ A joyful heart shall do good like a medicine, but a broken spirit dries the bones.

23 C el rău acceptă mita pe ascuns, ca să corupă căile dreptăţii.

¶ A wicked man takes a gift in secret to pervert the paths of judgment.

24 Î nţelepciunea este înaintea omului priceput, dar ochii prostului o caută la capătul pământului.

¶ Wisdom appears upon the countenance of him that has understanding, but the eyes of a fool manifest his folly unto the ends of the earth.

25 U n fiu prost aduce întristare tatălui său şi amărăciune celei ce l-a născut.

¶ The foolish son is a grief to his father and bitterness to her that bore him.

26 N u este bine să pedepseşti pe cel nevinovat, nici să loveşti pe cei nobili din cauza integrităţii lor.

¶ It is certainly not good to condemn the just, nor to smite princes for doing that which is upright.

27 U n om înzestrat cu ştiinţă îşi înfrânează cuvintele şi cel înţelept are un duh calm.

¶ He who has knowledge spares his words, and a man of understanding is of an excellent spirit.

28 C hiar şi un prost este considerat înţelept dacă tace şi priceput dacă-şi ţine gura.

Even a fool, when he is silent is counted wise, and he that shuts his lips is esteemed a man of understanding.
