1 C uvântul Domnului care a venit la Ţefania, fiul lui Cuşi, fiul lui Ghedalia, fiul lui Amaria, fiul lui Ezechia, pe vremea lui Iosia, fiul lui Amon, regele lui Iuda: Iminenţa judecăţii

¶ The word of the LORD which went unto Zephaniah the son of Cushi, the son of Gedaliah, the son of Amariah, the son of Hizkiah, in the days of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah.

2 „ Voi spulbera totul de pe faţa pământului! zice Domnul.

I will utterly destroy all things from off the face of the earth, saith the LORD.

3 V oi spulbera oamenii şi animalele, voi spulbera păsările cerului şi peştii mării, pietrele de poticnire şi pe cei răi împreună cu ele! Îi voi nimici pe oameni de pe faţa pământului! zice Domnul. Judecată împotriva lui Iuda

I will destroy the men and the beasts; I will destroy the fowls of the heaven and the fishes of the sea, and the wicked shall stumble; and I will cut off men from upon the face of the earth, saith the LORD.

4 Î mi voi întinde mâna împotriva lui Iuda şi împotriva tuturor locuitorilor Ierusalimului! Voi distruge din acest loc orice urmă de închinare la Baal şi numele preoţilor idolatri,

And I will extend my hand over Judah and over all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, and I will cut off the remnant of Baal from this place and the name of their religious persons with their priests

5 p e cei ce se închină pe acoperişuri oştirii cerului, pe cei ce se închină jurând pe Domnul, dar care jură şi pe Moleh,

and those that worship the host of heaven upon the housetops and those that worship swearing by the LORD and by their king

6 p e cei care s-au abătut de la Domnul şi pe cei care nu-L mai caută pe Domnul, nici nu mai întreabă de El!

and those that have turned back from following the LORD and those that did not seek the LORD, nor enquired about him.

7 S ă se facă tăcere înaintea Stăpânului Domn, fiindcă ziua Domnului este aproape! Domnul a pregătit o jertfă şi Şi-a pus deoparte oaspeţii.

¶ Be silent before the presence of the Lord GOD: for the day of the LORD is at hand: for the LORD has prepared a sacrifice, he has bid his guests.

8 Î n ziua jertfei Domnului, îi voi pedepsi pe prinţi şi pe fiii regelui, şi pe toţi cei ce poartă haine străine!

And it shall come to pass in the day of the LORD’s sacrifice that I will make a visitation upon the princes and upon the king’s sons and upon all such as are clothed with strange apparel.

9 Î n ziua aceea îi voi pedepsi pe toţi cei ce sar peste prag, care umplu templul zeilor lor cu violenţă şi înşelăciune!“

In the same day I will also make a visitation upon all those that leap over the door, who fill their masters’ houses with robbery and deceit.

10 „ În ziua aceea, zice Domnul, se va auzi un strigăt de durere dinspre Poarta Peştilor, un urlet dinspre cartierul cel nou şi un mare măcel dinspre dealuri.

And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD that there shall be the noise of a cry from the fish gate and a howling from the school and a great destruction from the hills.

11 J eliţi, locuitori ai Macteşului, căci toţi negustorii sunt distruşi, toţi cei ce vând pe argint sunt nimiciţi!

Howl, ye inhabitants of Maktesh, for all the merchant people are cut down; all those that brought ye silver are cut off.

12 Î n vremea aceea, voi răscoli Ierusalimul cu felinare şi-i voi pedepsi pe cei mulţumiţi, pe cei ce sunt ca vinul care se îngroaşă pe drojdiile lui, pe cei care zic în inimile lor: « Domnul nu va face nici bine, dar nu va face nici rău!»

And it shall come to pass at that time, that I will search Jerusalem with lamps and make a visitation upon the men that are settled on their lees, that say in their heart, The LORD will not do good, neither will he do evil.

13 A verea lor va fi de jaf, iar casele lor vor fi pustiite. Îşi vor zidi case, dar nu vor locui în ele! Îşi vor planta vii, dar nu le vor bea vinul! Ziua cea mare a Domnului

Therefore their goods shall become a spoil, and their houses a desolation: they shall build houses, but not inhabit them; and they shall plant vineyards, but not drink the wine thereof.

14 Z iua cea mare a Domnului este aproape; este aproape şi se grăbeşte să vină! Vuietul zilei Domnului este amarnic; la fel este şi urletul celui viteaz acolo.

¶ The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hastens greatly, the bitter voice of the day of the LORD; the mighty man shall cry there.

15 Z iua aceea va fi o zi a furiei, o zi de necaz şi strâmtorare, o zi de pustiire şi distrugere, o zi de întuneric şi negură, o zi cu nori şi întunecime,

That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,

16 o zi a trâmbiţei şi a strigătului de război împotriva cetăţilor fortificate şi a turnurilor înalte!

A day of the shofar and alarm upon the strong cities, and upon the high towers.

17 V oi aduce un aşa necaz asupra oamenilor, încât vor bâjbâi ca nişte orbi, căci au păcătuit împotriva Domnului. Sângele le va fi vărsat ca praful, iar măruntaiele − ca balega.

And I will bring distress upon men that they shall walk like blind men because they have sinned against the LORD, and their blood shall be poured out as dust and their flesh as the dung.

18 N ici argintul şi nici aurul lor nu vor putea să-i scape în ziua furiei Domnului! Întreaga ţară va fi mistuită de focul geloziei Sale, căci El va aduce cu siguranţă o nimicire grabnică asupra tuturor locuitorilor ţării.“

Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’s wrath, but the whole earth shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy; for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all those that dwell in the earth.
