1 V ai de acea cunună, mândria beţivilor din Efraim, şi de floarea ofilită, frumuseţea ei glorioasă, aşezată pe culmea văii mănoase a celor doborâţi de vin!

¶ Woe to the crown of pride, to the drunkards of Ephraim and to the open flower of the beauty of their glory which is upon the head of the fertile valley of those that are overcome with wine!

2 I ată, Stăpânul are pe cineva puternic şi tare! Ca o furtună cu grindină, distrugătoare, ca o ploaie torenţială şi ca un potop puternic, o va trânti la pământ cu mâna sa.

Behold, the Lord has a mighty and strong one who as a tempest of hail and a destroying storm, as a flood of mighty waters overflowing shall cast down to the earth with the hand.

3 C ununa mândră a beţivilor din Efraim va fi călcată în picioare,

The crown of pride, the drunkards of Ephraim, shall be trodden under feet:

4 i ar floarea ofilită, frumuseţea ei glorioasă, aşezată pe culmea văii mănoase, va fi ca o măslină coaptă înainte de vreme; oricine o vede o înghite imediat ce pune mâna pe ea.

And the fading flower of the beauty of their glory, which is upon the head of the fertile valley, shall be as the early fig, which comes first before the other fruits of the summer; which when he that looks upon it sees it; as soon as he has it in his hand, he eats it up.

5 Î n ziua aceea Domnul Oştirilor va fi o cunună glorioasă, o ghirlandă frumoasă pentru rămăşiţa poporului Său;

In that day the LORD of the hosts shall be for a crown of glory and for a diadem of beauty unto the residue of his people,

6 v a fi un duh de dreptate pentru cel ce stă pe scaunul de judecată şi tărie pentru cei ce alungă duşmanul din faţa porţilor.

And for a spirit of judgment to him that sits upon the throne of judgment, and for strength to those that turn the battle to the gate.

7 D ar şi aceştia se clatină de vin şi ameţesc din cauza băuturilor tari: preot şi profet sunt ameţiţi de băuturi tari, sunt înghiţiţi de vin; sunt ameţiţi de băuturi tari, se clatină când au vedenii şi se împiedică atunci când judecă.

But they also have erred through wine, and through strong drink are out of the way; the priest and the prophet have erred through strong drink; they are swallowed up of wine, they are out of the way through strong drink; they err in vision, they stumble in judgment.

8 T oate mesele sunt pline de vomă, nu este nici un loc care să nu fie murdar.

For all tables are full of vomit and filthiness, so that there is no place clean.

9 « Pe cine crede El că învaţă cunoaşterea? Cui crede El că explică mesajul? Unora înţărcaţi de curând? Unora tocmai luaţi de la sân?

¶ Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? Those that are weaned from the milk and drawn from the breasts.

10 E l dă poruncă peste poruncă, poruncă peste poruncă, regulă după regulă, regulă după regulă, puţin aici, puţin acolo.»

For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little:

11 D e aceea, prin buze încâlcite şi într-o altă limbă, va vorbi El acestui popor,

For with stammering lips and another tongue he will speak to this people.

12 c elor cărora le-a spus: «Iată locul de odihnă! Lăsaţi-l pe cel ostenit să se odihnească! Aici este odihna!» Dar ei n-au vrut să asculte.

To whom he said, This is the rest with which ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing: yet they would not hear.

13 D e aceea pentru ei Cuvântul Domnului va fi: «Poruncă peste poruncă, poruncă peste poruncă, regulă peste regulă, regulă peste regulă puţin aici, puţin acolo», pentru ca, mergând, să cadă pe spate, să fie zdrobiţi, să fie prinşi în cursă şi capturaţi.

But the word of the LORD shall be unto them precept upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little; that they might go and fall backward and be broken and snared and taken.

14 D e aceea, ascultaţi Cuvântul Domnului, batjocoritorilor, voi care conduceţi acest popor în Ierusalim!

¶ Therefore hear the word of the LORD, ye scornful men, that have taken rule over this people which is in Jerusalem.

15 A ţi zis: «Am încheiat un legământ cu Moartea şi cu Locuinţa Morţilor avem o înţelegere. Urgia năvalnică va trece fără să ne atingă, căci ne-am făcut din minciună adăpost şi din înşelăciune ascunzătoare.»

Because ye have said, We have made a covenant with death, and with Sheol we are at agreement; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, it shall not come unto us: for we have made lies our refuge, and under falsehood we have hid ourselves:

16 D e aceea aşa vorbeşte Stăpânul Domn: «Iată, pun în Sion o Piatră, o Piatră încercată, o Piatră din capul unghiului, preţioasă, o Temelie sigură! Oricine crede în El nu se va fi făcut de ruşine.

Therefore thus saith the Lord GOD, Behold, I lay in Zion for a foundation a stone, a tried stone, a precious corner stone, a sure foundation: he that believes shall not make haste.

17 E u voi face din judecata dreaptă o funie de măsură şi din dreptate o cumpănă. Grindina îţi va mătura adăpostul făcut din minciună, iar apele îţi vor inunda ascunzătoarea.

Judgment also will I lay to the line and righteousness to the plummet: and the hail shall sweep away the refuge of lies, and the waters shall overflow the hiding place.

18 L egământul vostru cu Moartea va fi anulat, iar înţelegerea voastră cu Locuinţa Morţilor va cădea. Când va trece urgia năvalnică veţi fi striviţi de ea.

And your covenant with death shall be disannulled, and your agreement with Sheol shall not stand; when the overflowing scourge shall pass through, then ye shall be trodden down by it.

19 O ri de câte ori va trece, vă va apuca, căci va trece dimineaţă de dimineaţă, zi de zi şi noapte de noapte!» Înţelegerea acestui mesaj nu va produce decât groază.

From the time that it goes forth, it shall take you: for it shall come suddenly, by day and by night: and it shall be that the terror only causes one to understand the report.

20 C ăci patul e prea scurt să te întinzi pe el, iar învelitoarea prea îngustă să te înfăşori cu ea.

For the bed is shorter than that a man can stretch himself on it: and the covering narrower than that he can wrap himself in it.

21 D omnul Se va ridica cum a făcut-o pe muntele Peraţim; se va mânia ca în valea Ghivon, ca să-Şi facă lucrarea, lucrarea Sa neobişnuită; ca să-Şi ducă la îndeplinire fapta, fapta Sa nemaipomenită.

For the LORD shall rise up as in Mount Perazim, he shall be wroth as in the valley of Gibeon, that he may do his work, his strange work; and bring to pass his act, his strange act.

22 A cum dar, nu mai batjocoriţi, ori lanţurile vi se vor strânge mai tare, fiindcă am auzit de la Stăpânul, Domnul Oştirilor, o hotărâre de nimicire a întregii ţări.

Now therefore do not be mockers lest your bands be made strong: for I have heard from the Lord GOD of the hosts that consumption and destruction are determined upon the whole earth.

23 L uaţi aminte şi ascultaţi glasul meu! Fiţi atenţi şi ascultaţi rostirea mea!

¶ Give ye ear and hear my voice; hearken and hear my speech.

24 O are plugarul ară tot anul pentru a semăna? Oare tot anul brăzdează şi grăpează pământul?

Does the plowman plow all day to sow? does he open and break the clods of his ground?

25 C ând i-a netezit suprafaţa, oare nu împrăştie apoi mărar, nu seamănă chimion? Nu plantează grâul în rânduri, orzul în parcela lui şi secara albă drept margine?

When he has levelled the face thereof, does he not cast abroad the fitches and scatter the cummin and cast in the principal wheat and the appointed barley and the rye in their place?

26 D umnezeul lui îl instruieşte în felul acesta. Da, El îi dă învăţătură!

For his God teaches him to know how to judge and instructs him.

27 M ărarul nu se treieră cu treierătoarea, nici chimionul nu se calcă cu tăvălugul, ci mărarul se bate cu un băţ, iar chimionul cu o nuia.

For the fitches are not threshed with a threshing instrument, neither is a cart wheel turned about upon the cummin; but the fitches are beaten out with a staff and the cummin with a rod.

28 G rânele sunt zdrobite, dar nu se treieră veşnic. Roata carului de treierat trece peste ele, dar caii nu le zdrobesc.

Grain is thrashed to make bread; but he will not ever be threshing it, nor shall he grind it with the wheel of his cart, nor crush it with the teeth of his thrashing instrument.

29 Ş i lucrul acesta vine tot de la Domnul Oştirilor, Care este minunat în sfat şi măreţ în înţelepciune.

This also comes forth from the LORD of the hosts to make his counsel wonderful, and to increase wisdom.
