1 ¶ And it came to pass when Jesus had finished all these words, he said unto his disciples,

După ce a terminat de spus aceste cuvinte, Isus le-a zis ucenicilor Săi:

2 Y e know that after two days is the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.

„Ştiţi că peste două zile va fi Paştele, iar Fiul Omului va fi trădat ca să fie răstignit“.

3 T hen the princes of the priests and the scribes and the elders of the people assembled together in the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas,

Atunci conducătorii preoţilor şi bătrânii poporului s-au strâns în curtea marelui preot, numit Caiafa,

4 a nd took counsel that they might take Jesus by guile and kill him.

şi au uneltit să-L aresteze pe Isus prin vicleşug şi să-L omoare.

5 B ut they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people.

Însă ei ziceau: „Nu în timpul sărbătorii, ca nu cumva să se facă tulburare în popor“. Ungerea lui Isus la Betania

6 ¶ Now when Jesus was in Bethany, in the house of Simon the leper,

În timp ce Isus se afla în Betania, în casa lui Simon, leprosul,

7 a woman came unto him having an alabaster box of very precious ointment and poured it on his head as he sat at the table.

a venit la El o femeie care avea un vas de alabastru, plin cu un parfum foarte scump. Ea a turnat parfumul pe capul lui Isus, în timp ce El stătea la masă.

8 B ut when his disciples saw it, they became indignant, saying, To what purpose is this waste?

Ucenicii însă au fost indignaţi când au văzut acest lucru şi au zis: „Pentru ce risipa aceasta?

9 F or this ointment might have been sold for much and given to the poor.

Căci parfumul acesta s-ar fi putut vinde scump, iar banii să le fie daţi săracilor!“

10 B ut Jesus, understanding this, said unto them, Why trouble ye the woman? for she has wrought a good work upon me.

Isus ştia ce zic ei, aşa că le-a spus: „De ce îi cauzaţi supărare femeii? Ea a făcut un lucru frumos faţă de Mine!

11 F or ye have the poor always with you, but me ye have not always.

Căci pe săraci îi aveţi întotdeauna cu voi, dar pe Mine nu Mă aveţi întotdeauna!

12 F or in that she has poured this ointment on my body, she did it to prepare for my burial.

Când a turnat acest parfum pe trupul Meu, ea a făcut lucrul acesta, ca să Mă pregătească pentru înmormântare.

13 V erily I say unto you, Wherever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman has done, be told for a memorial of her.

Adevărat vă spun că oriunde va fi vestită această Evanghelie, în toată lumea, se va spune şi ce a făcut această femeie, în amintirea ei“. Trădarea lui Iuda

14 ¶ Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the princes of the priests

Atunci unul dintre cei doisprezece, numit Iuda Iscarioteanul, s-a dus la conducătorii preoţilor

15 a nd said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver.

şi i-a întrebat: „Ce vreţi să-mi daţi ca să-L dau pe mâna voastră?“ Ei i-au plătit treizeci de arginţi.

16 A nd from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.

De atunci, el a început să caute un prilej, ca să-L dea pe mâna lor. Masa pascală

17 ¶ Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread, the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover?

În prima zi a Sărbătorii Azimelor, ucenicii au venit la Isus şi L-au întrebat: – Unde vrei să-Ţi pregătim să mănânci mielul de Paşte?

18 A nd he said, Go into the city to a certain man and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples.

El le-a răspuns: – Duceţi-vă în cetate la un anumit om şi spuneţi-i astfel: „Învăţătorul zice: «Timpul Meu este aproape; voi sărbători Paştele la tine, împreună cu ucenicii Mei!»“

19 A nd the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them, and they made ready the passover.

Ucenicii au făcut aşa cum le poruncise Isus şi au pregătit Paştele. Descoperirea trădătorului

20 N ow when the evening was come, he sat down at the table with the twelve.

Când s-a înserat, Isus S-a aşezat la masă împreună cu cei doisprezece.

21 A nd as they ate, he said, Verily I say unto you that one of you shall betray me.

În timp ce mâncau, Isus le-a zis: – Adevărat vă spun că unul dintre voi Mă va trăda.

22 A nd they were exceeding sorrowful and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?

Ei s-au întristat foarte tare şi au început să-L întrebe unul câte unul: – Nu cumva sunt eu, Doamne?

23 A nd he answered and said, He that dips his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.

El le-a răspuns: – Cel ce-şi pune mâna în castron împreună cu Mine, acela Mă va trăda!

24 T he Son of man goes as it is written of him, but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! It had been good for that man if he had not been born.

Da, Fiul Omului Se duce după cum este scris cu privire la El, dar vai de omul acela prin care este trădat Fiul Omului! Era mai bine pentru acel om dacă nu s-ar fi născut!

25 T hen Judas, who was betraying him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.

Iuda, trădătorul, a întrebat: – Nu cumva sunt eu acela, Rabbi ? Isus i-a răspuns: – Este aşa cum spui. Cina Domnului

26 ¶ And as they were eating, Jesus took the bread, and, having blessed it, broke it and gave it to the disciples and said, Take, eat; this is my body.

În timp ce mâncau, Isus a luat o pâine şi, după ce a rostit binecuvântarea, a frânt-o şi le-a dat-o ucenicilor, zicând: „Luaţi, mâncaţi! Acesta este trupul Meu“.

27 A nd taking the cup and having given thanks, he gave it to them, saying, Drink ye all of it;

Apoi a luat un pahar şi, după ce a adus mulţumiri, l-a dat ucenicilor, zicând: „Beţi toţi din el,

28 f or this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.

căci acesta este sângele Meu, sângele legământului, care este vărsat pentru mulţi spre iertarea păcatelor.

29 B ut I say unto you, I will not drink from now on of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.

Vă spun că de acum încolo nu voi mai bea din acest rod al viţei până în ziua aceea, când îl voi bea cu voi nou în Împărăţia Tatălui Meu“.

30 A nd when they had sung a hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives.

După ce au cântat psalmii, s-au dus spre Muntele Măslinilor. Isus prezice lepădarea lui Petru

31 ¶ Then Jesus said unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night; for it is written, I will smite the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.

Atunci Isus le-a zis: – În noaptea aceasta toţi vă veţi poticni în Mine, pentru că este scris: „Voi lovi păstorul, iar oile turmei vor fi risipite!“

32 B ut after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.

Dar după învierea Mea voi merge înaintea voastră în Galileea.

33 P eter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended in thee, yet I will never be offended.

Petru I-a răspuns: – Chiar dacă toţi se vor poticni în Tine, eu nu mă voi poticni niciodată!

34 J esus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night before the cock crows, thou shalt deny me three times.

Isus i-a zis: – Adevărat îţi spun că în noaptea aceasta, înainte de cântatul cocoşului, te vei lepăda de Mine de trei ori!

35 P eter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples.

Petru I-a răspuns: – Chiar dacă ar trebui să mor împreună cu Tine, eu tot nu mă voi lepăda de Tine! Şi toţi ucenicii au spus la fel. Ghetsimani

36 ¶ Then Jesus came with them unto a place called Gethsemane and said unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder.

Atunci Isus a venit cu ei într-un loc numit Ghetsimani şi le-a zis ucenicilor: „Staţi jos aici în timp ce Eu Mă voi duce acolo să mă rog!“

37 A nd taking with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, he began to be sorrowful and very heavy.

I-a luat cu El pe Petru şi pe cei doi fii ai lui Zebedei şi a început să se întristeze şi să se mâhnească.

38 T hen he said unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death; tarry ye here and watch with me.

Atunci le-a zis: „Sufletul Meu este cuprins de o întristare de moarte. Rămâneţi aici şi vegheaţi împreună cu Mine!“

39 A nd he went a little further and fell on his face, praying and saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me; nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.

S-a depărtat puţin, a căzut cu faţa la pământ şi s-a rugat: „Tată, dacă este posibil, să fie îndepărtat de la Mine paharul acesta! Totuşi, nu cum vreau Eu, ci cum vrei Tu!“

40 A nd he came unto the disciples and found them asleep and said unto Peter, What, could ye not watch with me one hour?

Apoi a venit la ucenici, dar i-a găsit dormind. El i-a zis lui Petru: „Aşadar, n-aţi putut veghea împreună cu Mine nici măcar o oră?

41 W atch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation; the spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Vegheaţi şi rugaţi-vă, ca să nu cădeţi în ispită! Duhul într-adevăr este doritor, dar carnea este neputincioasă!“

42 H e went away again the second time and prayed, saying, O my Father, if this cup may not pass away from me except I drink it, thy will be done.

S-a îndepărtat a doua oară şi s-a rugat din nou, zicând: „Tată, dacă nu se poate să fie îndepărtat acest pahar de la Mine fără să-l beau, facă-se voia Ta!“

43 A nd he came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy.

A venit iarăşi la ucenici şi i-a găsit dormind, pentru că li se îngreunaseră ochii de somn.

44 A nd leaving them, he went away again and prayed the third time, saying the same words.

I-a lăsat iarăşi, s-a îndepărtat şi s-a rugat pentru a treia oară, spunând aceleaşi cuvinte.

45 T hen he came unto his disciples and said unto them, Sleep on now and take your rest; behold, the hour is at hand, and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners.

Atunci a venit la ucenici şi le-a zis: „Încă mai dormiţi şi vă odihniţi? Iată, s-a apropiat ceasul! Fiul Omului este trădat în mâinile păcătoşilor.

46 R ise, let us be going; behold, he is at hand that doth betray me.

Sculaţi-vă! Să mergem! Iată că se apropie cel ce Mă trădează!“ Arestarea lui Isus

47 ¶ And while he yet spoke, behold, Judas, one of the twelve, came, and with him a great multitude with swords and staves, from the princes of the priests and elders of the people.

În timp ce El încă vorbea, iată că vine Iuda, unul dintre cei doisprezece, împreună cu o mulţime mare de oameni cu săbii şi ciomege, trimişi de conducătorii preoţilor şi de bătrânii poporului.

48 N ow he that betrayed him had given them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he; hold him fast.

Trădătorul le dăduse următorul semn: „Cel pe Care-L voi săruta, Acela este! Să-L arestaţi!“

49 A nd forthwith he came to Jesus and said, Receive joy, master; and kissed him.

El a venit imediat la Isus şi I-a zis: – Salutare, Rabbi! Şi L-a sărutat.

50 A nd Jesus said unto him, Friend, why art thou come? Then they came and laid hands on Jesus and took him.

Isus i-a zis: – Prietene, fă potrivit cu ceea ce eşti aici să faci! Atunci ei s-au apropiat, au pus mâna pe Isus şi L-au arestat.

51 A nd, behold, one of those who was with Jesus stretched out his hand and drew his sword and struck a slave of the high priest and smote off his ear.

Şi iată că unul dintre cei ce erau cu Isus a întins mâna, şi-a scos sabia şi l-a lovit pe sclavul marelui preot, tăindu-i o ureche.

52 T hen Jesus said unto him, Put up again thy sword into its place, for all those that take the sword shall perish by the sword.

Însă Isus i-a zis: „Pune-ţi sabia la loc, căci toţi cei ce scot sabia, de sabie vor pieri!

53 T hinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

Sau crezi că n-aş putea să-L rog pe Tatăl Meu, Care Mi-ar pune chiar acum la dispoziţie mai mult de douăsprezece legiuni de îngeri?

54 B ut how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled that thus it must be?

Dar cum s-ar împlini atunci Scripturile care spun că aşa trebuie să se întâmple?“

55 I n that same hour Jesus said to the multitude, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me.

În ceasul acela, Isus a zis mulţimilor: „Aţi ieşit să Mă prindeţi cu săbii şi ciomege, ca pe un tâlhar ? În fiecare zi Mă aşezam în Templu şi dădeam învăţătură, dar nu M-aţi arestat!

56 B ut all this was done that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him and fled.

Însă toate acestea s-au întâmplat ca să se împlinească scrierile profeţilor“. Atunci toţi ucenicii L-au părăsit şi au fugit. Isus înaintea Sinedriului

57 ¶ And those that had laid hold on Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled.

Atunci cei ce L-au arestat pe Isus L-au dus la Caiafa, marele preot, unde erau adunaţi cărturarii şi bătrânii.

58 B ut Peter followed him afar off unto the patio of the high priest and went in and sat with the servants to see the end.

Petru L-a urmat de la distanţă până la curtea marelui preot. A intrat înăuntru şi s-a aşezat împreună cu gărzile, ca să vadă care va fi sfârşitul.

59 N ow the princes of the priests and the elders and all the council sought false witness against Jesus, to put him to death;

Conducătorii preoţilor şi întregul Sinedriu căutau vreo mărturie falsă împotriva lui Isus, ca să-L poată condamna la moarte,

60 b ut found none; though many false witnesses came, yet found they none. At the last came two false witnesses

dar n-au găsit niciuna, deşi veniseră mulţi martori mincinoşi. La urmă, au venit doi

61 w ho said, This fellow said, I am able to destroy the temple of God and to build it in three days.

care au spus: „Acesta a zis: «Eu pot să dărâm Templul lui Dumnezeu şi să-l reconstruiesc în trei zile!»“

62 A nd the high priest arose and said unto him, Answerest thou nothing to what these witness against thee?

Marele preot s-a ridicat şi L-a întrebat: – Nu răspunzi nimic la ce mărturisesc aceştia împotriva Ta?

63 B ut Jesus remained silent. And the high priest answered and said unto him, I adjure thee by the living God, that thou tell us whether thou art the Christ, the Son of God.

Dar Isus tăcea. Marele preot i-a zis: – Te pun sub jurământ în faţa Dumnezeului celui Viu să ne spui dacă Tu eşti Cristosul, Fiul lui Dumnezeu!

64 J esus said unto him, Thou hast said it; nevertheless I say unto you, Hereafter shall ye see the Son of man sitting on the right hand of power and coming in the clouds of heaven.

Isus i-a răspuns: – Este aşa cum spui. Dar vă spun că, de acum încolo, Îl veţi vedea pe Fiul Omului şezând la dreapta Puterii şi venind pe norii cerului!

65 T hen the high priest rent his clothes, saying, He has spoken blasphemy; what further need have we of witnesses? Behold, now ye have heard his blasphemy.

Atunci marele preot şi-a sfâşiat hainele şi a zis: – A blasfemiat! Ce nevoie mai avem de martori?! Iată, acum aţi auzit blasfemia!

66 W hat think ye? They answered and said, He is guilty of death.

Ce părere aveţi? Ei au răspuns: – Este vinovat şi vrednic de moarte!

67 T hen they spit in his face and buffeted him, and others smote him with the staves,

Atunci L-au scuipat în faţă şi L-au lovit. Unii L-au pălmuit,

68 s aying, Prophesy unto us, thou Christ; who is he that smote thee?

zicând: „Profeţeşte-ne, Cristoase, cine este cel ce Te-a lovit?“ Lepădarea lui Petru

69 ¶ Now Peter sat outside in the patio; and a damsel came unto him, saying, Thou also wast with Jesus of Galilee.

Petru stătea afară, în curte. A venit la el o slujnică şi i-a zis: – Şi tu erai cu Isus, galileeanul!

70 B ut he denied before them all, saying, I know not what thou sayest.

Însă el s-a lepădat înaintea tuturor, zicând: – Nu ştiu despre ce vorbeşti.

71 A nd when he was gone out into the porch, another maid saw him and said unto those that were there, This fellow was also with Jesus of Nazareth.

Când s-a îndreptat spre poartă, l-a văzut o altă slujnică, care le-a zis celor de acolo: – Acesta era cu Isus din Nazaret!

72 A nd again he denied with an oath, I do not know the man.

El s-a lepădat din nou, spunând cu jurământ: – Nu-L cunosc pe Acest Om!

73 A nd after a while those that stood by came unto him and said to Peter, Surely thou also art one of them, for thy speech makes thee manifest.

După puţin timp însă cei ce stăteau acolo au venit şi i-au zis lui Petru: – Cu siguranţă şi tu eşti unul dintre ei, căci te dă de gol accentul!

74 T hen he began to curse and to swear, saying, I know not the man. And immediately a cock crew.

Atunci el a început să se blesteme şi să jure, zicând: – Nu-L cunosc pe Acest Om! Şi imediat a cântat cocoşul.

75 A nd Peter remembered the word of Jesus, who said unto him, Before the cock crows, thou shalt deny me three times. And he went out and wept bitterly.

Atunci Petru şi-a adus aminte cuvântul pe care i-l spusese Isus: „Înainte de cântatul cocoşului, te vei lepăda de Mine de trei ori!“ Şi a ieşit afară şi a plâns cu amar.
