1 ¶ Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the rights, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you that ye might do them in the land into which ye go to inherit it

Acestea sunt legile, poruncile şi hotărârile pe care Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, mi-a poruncit să vă învăţ să le împliniţi în ţara pe care o veţi moşteni,

2 t hat thou might fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou and thy son and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life and that thy days may be prolonged.

ca să vă temeţi de Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, atât voi, cât şi fiii şi nepoţii voştri, în toate zilele vieţii voastre, păzind toate hotărârile şi poruncile pe care eu vi le dau şi ca să trăiţi multe zile.

3 H ear, therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it that it may be well with thee and that ye may be multiplied exceedingly (as the LORD God of thy fathers has said unto thee) in the land that flows with milk and honey.

Ascultă, Israele, şi veghează să le împlineşti, ca să fii fericit şi să devii numeros în ţara în care curge lapte şi miere, aşa cum ţi-a promis Domnul, Dumnezeul părinţilor tăi.

4 ¶ Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD.

Ascultă, Israele! Domnul, Dumnezeul nostru, este singurul Domn.

5 A nd thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart and with all thy soul and with all thy might.

Să-L iubeşti pe Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, cu toată inima ta, cu tot sufletul tău şi cu toată puterea ta.

6 A nd these words, which I command thee this day, shall be upon thy heart,

Iar cuvintele acestea, pe care ţi le poruncesc astăzi, să le păstrezi în inima ta.

7 a nd thou shalt repeat them diligently unto thy sons and shalt talk of them being in thy house and walking by the way, lying down in bed, and rising up;

Să le întipăreşti în mintea copiilor tăi şi să vorbeşti despre ele când vei fi acasă sau în călătorie, când te vei culca sau când te vei trezi.

8 a nd thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thy hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thy eyes;

Să ţi le legi de mâini ca semn de aducere-aminte şi să ţi le fixezi pe frunte.

9 a nd thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house and on thy gates.

Să le scrii pe uşorii caselor tale şi pe porţile cetăţilor tale.

10 A nd it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give it unto thee: great and goodly cities, which thou didst not build,

Când Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, te va duce în ţara pe care a promis-o, prin jurământ, strămoşilor tăi, Avraam, Isaac şi Iacov, şi-ţi va da cetăţi mari şi bune, pe care nu tu le-ai construit,

11 a nd houses full of all good things, which thou didst not fill, and hewn out wells, which thou didst not dig, vineyards and olive trees, which thou didst not plant; when thou shalt have eaten and be full,

case pline cu tot felul de bunuri, pe care nu tu le-ai umplut, fântâni pe care nu tu le-ai săpat, vii şi măslini pe care nu tu i-ai plantat, atunci când vei mânca şi te vei sătura,

12 t hen beware lest thou forget the LORD, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of slavery.

veghează ca nu cumva să uiţi de Domnul, Care te-a scos din ţara Egiptului, din casa sclaviei.

13 T hou shalt fear the LORD thy God and serve him and shalt swear by his name.

Să te temi de Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, numai Lui să-I slujeşti şi în Numele Lui să juri.

14 Y e shall not go after other gods, of the gods of the peoples who are round about you

Să nu vă duceţi după alţi dumnezei, după zeii popoarelor din jurul vostru,

15 ( for the LORD thy God is a jealous God among you) lest peradventure the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled against thee and destroy thee from off the face of the earth.

fiindcă Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, Care este în mijlocul vostru, este un Dumnezeu gelos, iar mânia Lui s-ar aprinde împotriva voastră şi v-ar nimici de pe faţa pământului.

16 Y e shall not tempt the LORD your God, as ye tempted him in Massah.

Să nu-L ispitiţi pe Domnul, Dumnezeul vostru, aşa cum L-aţi ispitit la Masa.

17 ¶ Ye shall diligently keep the commandments of the LORD your God and his testimonies and his statutes, which he has commanded thee.

Să păziţi cu atenţie poruncile Domnului, Dumnezeul vostru, mărturiile şi legile pe care vi le-a dat.

18 A nd thou shalt do that which is right and good in the sight of the LORD that it may be well with thee and that thou may enter in and inherit the good land which the LORD swore unto thy fathers

Să faceţi ce este drept şi bine înaintea Domnului, ca să fiţi fericiţi şi să intraţi în stăpânirea acelei ţări bune pe care El a promis-o, prin jurământ, strămoşilor voştri

19 s o that he will cast out all thine enemies from before thy presence, as the LORD has spoken.

şi astfel să-i izgoniţi pe toţi duşmanii voştri dinaintea voastră, după cum Domnul a promis.

20 A nd when tomorrow thy son asks thee, saying, What are the testimonies and the statutes and the rights, which the LORD our God has commanded you?

Când fiul tău te va întreba într-o zi: «Ce înseamnă aceste mărturii, legi şi hotărâri, pe care Domnul, Dumnezeul tău, ţi le-a dat?»,

21 T hen thou shalt say unto thy son, We were Pharaoh’s slaves in Egypt, and the LORD brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand;

să îi răspunzi fiului tău astfel: «Îi eram sclavi lui Faraon în Egipt, iar Domnul ne-a scos din Egipt cu mână tare,

22 a nd the LORD showed signs and wonders, great and sore, in Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes;

făcând înaintea ochilor noştri semne, minuni mari şi dezastre împotriva Egiptului, împotriva lui Faraon şi a întregii lui case;

23 a nd he brought us out from there that he might bring us in, to give us the land which he swore unto our fathers.

El ne-a scos de acolo ca să ne ducă în ţara pe care a promis-o, prin jurământ, strămoşilor noştri.

24 A nd the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes that we might fear the LORD our God for our good always that he might give us life, as it is at this day.

Domnul ne-a poruncit să împlinim toate aceste legi şi să ne temem de El ca să fim tot timpul fericiţi şi să ne ţină în viaţă aşa cum face astăzi.

25 A nd we shall have justice when we keep ourselves by doing all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us.

Iar dacă vom avea grijă să împlinim toate poruncile acestea înaintea Domnului, Dumnezeul nostru, aşa cum ne-a poruncit El, atunci vom avea parte de dreptatea Lui.»
