1 E lders who among you, I exhort, who a fellow-elder, and a witness of the sufferings of the Christ, and of the glory about to be revealed a partaker,

¶ The elders who are among you I exhort (I am also an elder with them and a witness of the afflictions of the Christ, and also a participant of the glory that shall be revealed).

2 f eed the flock of God that among you, overseeing not constrainedly, but willingly, neither for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind,

Feed the flock of God which is among you, caring for her, not by force, but willingly; not for shameful lucre, but with willing desire;

3 n either as exercising lordship over the heritages, but patterns becoming of the flock,

and not as having lordship over the heritage of the Lord, but in such a manner as to be examples of the flock.

4 a nd at the manifestation of the chief Shepherd, ye shall receive the unfading crown of glory.

And when the great Prince of the pastors shall appear, ye shall receive the incorruptible crown of glory.

5 I n like manner, ye younger, be subject to elders, and all to one another subjecting yourselves; with humble-mindedness clothe yourselves, because God the proud doth resist, but to the humble He doth give grace;

¶ Likewise, young people, be subject to the elders in such a manner that you are all subject to one another. Be clothed with humility of will, for God resists the proud and gives grace to the humble.

6 b e humbled, then, under the powerful hand of God, that you He may exalt in good time,

Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time,

7 a ll your care having cast upon Him, because He careth for you.

casting all your cares upon him, for he cares for you.

8 B e sober, vigilant, because your opponent the devil, as a roaring lion, doth walk about, seeking whom he may swallow up,

¶ Be temperate and vigilant because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walks about, seeking whom he may devour,

9 w hom resist, stedfast in the faith, having known the same sufferings to your brotherhood in the world to be accomplished.

resist him steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are to be accomplished in the company of your brethren that are in the world.

10 A nd the God of all grace, who did call you to His age-during glory in Christ Jesus, having suffered a little, Himself make you perfect, establish, strengthen, settle;

¶ But the God of all grace, who has called us unto his eternal glory by Jesus, the Christ, after ye have suffered a little while, he himself perfects, confirms, strengthens, and establishes you.

11 t o Him the glory, and the power -- to the ages and the ages! Amen.

To him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

12 T hrough Silvanus, to you the faithful brother, as I reckon, through few I did write, exhorting and testifying this to be the true grace of God in which ye have stood.

By Silvanus, a faithful brother; (according to my reckoning), I have written briefly, exhorting, and testifying that this is the true grace of God in which ye stand.
