1 T hen, after fourteen years again I went up to Jerusalem with Barnabas, having taken with me also Titus;

¶ Then fourteen years later I went up again to Jerusalem with Barnabas and took Titus with me also.

2 a nd I went up by revelation, and did submit to them the good news that I preach among the nations, and privately to those esteemed, lest in vain I might run or did run;

But I went up by revelation and communicated unto them the gospel which I preach among the Gentiles, but privately to those who seemed to be of repute, to not run, or have run, in vain.

3 b ut not even Titus, who with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised --

But not even Titus, who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised,

4 a nd because of the false brethren brought in unawares, who did come in privily to spy out our liberty that we have in Christ Jesus, that us they might bring under bondage,

And that in spite of the false brethren, who entered secretly to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus that they might bring us into bondage;

5 t o whom not even for an hour we gave place by subjection, that the truth of the good news might remain to you.

Unto whom we did not submit even for one hour that the truth of the gospel might remain with you.

6 A nd from those who were esteemed to be something -- whatever they were then, it maketh no difference to me -- the face of man God accepteth not, for -- to me those esteemed did add nothing,

But of these who seemed to be of repute, (whatever they were, it makes no matter to me: God does not accept the appearance of men), for those who seemed to be of repute in conference added nothing to me;

7 b ut, on the contrary, having seen that I have been entrusted with the good news of the uncircumcision, as Peter with of the circumcision,

But to the contrary, when they saw that the gospel of the uncircumcision was committed unto me, as the gospel of the circumcision was unto Peter

8 f or He who did work with Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, did work also in me in regard to the nations,

(for he that showed himself forth in Peter for apostleship of the circumcision, the same also showed himself forth in me toward the Gentiles);

9 a nd having known the grace that was given to me, James, and Cephas, and John, who were esteemed to be pillars, a right hand of fellowship they did give to me, and to Barnabas, that we to the nations, and they to the circumcision,

and when James, Cephas, and John, who seemed to be pillars, perceived the grace that was given unto me, they gave to me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship that we should go unto the Gentiles, and they unto the circumcision.

10 o nly, of the poor that we should be mindful, which also I was diligent -- this very thing -- to do.

Only they asked that we should remember the poor; the same which I was also diligent to do.

11 A nd when Peter came to Antioch, to the face I stood up against him, because he was blameworthy,

¶ But when Peter was come to Antioch, I withstood him to the face because he was to be blamed.

12 f or before the coming of certain from James, with the nations he was eating, and when they came, he was withdrawing and separating himself, fearing those of the circumcision,

For before certain ones came from James, he ate with the Gentiles, but when they were come, he withdrew and separated himself, fearing those who were of the circumcision.

13 a nd dissemble with him also did the other Jews, so that also Barnabas was carried away by their dissimulation.

And the other Jews dissembled likewise with him, insomuch that Barnabas also was carried away with their hypocrisy.

14 B ut when I saw that they are not walking uprightly to the truth of the good news, I said to Peter before all, `If thou, being a Jew, in the manner of the nations dost live, and not in the manner of the Jews, how the nations dost thou compel to Judaize?

But when I saw that they did not walk uprightly according to the truth of the gospel, I said unto Peter before them all, If thou, being a Jew, dost live after the manner of Gentiles, and not as do the Jews, why dost thou compel the Gentiles to live as do the Jews?

15 w e by nature Jews, and not sinners of the nations,

We who are Jews by nature, and not sinners of the Gentiles,

16 h aving known also that a man is not declared righteous by works of law, if not through the faith of Jesus Christ, also we in Christ Jesus did believe, that we might be declared righteous by the faith of Christ, and not by works of law, wherefore declared righteous by works of law shall be no flesh.'

knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law; for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.

17 A nd if, seeking to be declared righteous in Christ, we ourselves also were found sinners, then Christ a ministrant of sin? let it not be!

But if, while we seek to be justified in Christ, we ourselves also are found sinners, is therefore Christ the minister of our sin? No, in no wise.

18 f or if the things I threw down, these again I build up, a transgressor I set myself forth;

For if I build again the things which I destroyed, I make myself a rebel.

19 f or I through law, did die, that to God I may live;

For through the law I am dead to the law, that I might live unto God.

20 w ith Christ I have been crucified, and live no more do I, and Christ doth live in me; and that which I now live in the flesh -- in the faith I live of the Son of God, who did love me and did give himself for me;

I am crucified with Christ; nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me, and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

21 I do not make void the grace of God, for if righteousness through law -- then Christ died in vain.

I do not reject the grace of God, for if righteousness comes by the law, then Christ is dead in vain.
