1 W eiter, liebe Brüder, betet für uns, daß das Wort des HERRN laufe und gepriesen werde wie bei euch,

¶ Finally, brethren, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may have free course and be glorified, even as it is with you,

2 u nd daß wir erlöst werden von den unverständigen und argen Menschen. Denn der Glaube ist nicht jedermanns Ding.

And that we may be delivered from perverse and wicked men, for the faith is not of everyone.

3 A ber der HERR ist treu; der wird euch stärken und bewahren vor dem Argen.

But the Lord is faithful, who shall confirm you and keep you from evil.

4 W ir versehen uns aber zu euch in dem HERRN, daß ihr tut und tun werdet, was wir euch gebieten.

And we have confidence in the Lord regarding you, that ye both do and will do the things which we command you.

5 D er HERR aber richte eure Herzen zu der Liebe Gottes und zu der Geduld Christi.

And the Lord make your hearts upright in the charity of God and in the hope of the Christ.

6 W ir gebieten euch aber, liebe Brüder, in dem Namen unsers HERRN Jesu Christi, daß ihr euch entzieht von jedem Bruder, der da unordentlich wandelt und nicht nach der Satzung, die er von uns empfangen hat.

¶ Now we charge you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walks out of order, and not after the doctrine which ye received of us.

7 D enn ihr wisset, wie ihr uns sollt nachfolgen. Denn wir sind nicht unordentlich unter euch gewesen,

For you know in what manner you ought to imitate us, for we did not walk disorderly among you,

8 h aben auch nicht umsonst das Brot genommen von jemand; sondern mit Arbeit und Mühe Tag und Nacht haben wir gewirkt, daß wir nicht jemand unter euch beschwerlich wären.

neither did we eat any man’s bread for nought, but working with labour and travail night and day, that we might not be a burden to any of you,

9 N icht darum, daß wir es nicht Macht haben, sondern daß wir uns selbst zum Vorbilde euch gäben, uns nachzufolgen.

Not because we did not have authority, but to give you an example that you might imitate us.

10 U nd da wir bei euch waren, geboten wir euch solches, daß, so jemand nicht will arbeiten, der soll auch nicht essen.

For even when we were with you, this we declared unto you, that if anyone desires not to work neither should he eat.

11 D enn wir hören, daß etliche unter euch wandeln unordentlich und arbeiten nichts, sondern treiben Vorwitz.

For we hear that there are some who walk among you out of order, not working at all, but are busybodies.

12 S olchen aber gebieten wir und ermahnen sie durch unsern HERRN Jesus Christus, daß sie mit stillem Wesen arbeiten und ihr eigen Brot essen.

Now those that are such, we charge and exhort in our Lord Jesus Christ, that working with quietness, they eat their bread.

13 I hr aber, liebe Brüder, werdet nicht verdrossen Gutes zu tun.

But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

14 S o aber jemand nicht gehorsam ist unserm Wort, den zeigt an durch einen Brief, und habt nichts mit ihm zu schaffen, auf daß er schamrot werde;

And if anyone does not hearken unto our word by this epistle, note that one and do not join with him, that he may be ashamed.

15 d och haltet ihn nicht als einen Feind, sondern vermahnet ihn als einen Bruder.

Yet count him not as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.

16 E r aber, der HERR des Friedens, gebe euch Frieden allenthalben und auf allerlei Weise. Der HERR sei mit euch allen!

¶ Now the Lord of peace himself give you peace always by every means. The Lord be with you all.

17 D er Gruß mit meiner, des Paulus, Hand. Das ist das Zeichen in allen Briefen; also schreibe ich.

Receive saving health from my hand, Paul, which is the sign in all my letters: so I write.

18 D ie Gnade unsers HERRN Jesu Christi sei mit euch allen! Amen.

The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all. Amen.
