1 ( Ein Psalm Davids, vorzusingen.) HERR, Du erforschest mich und kennest mich.

¶ O LORD, thou hast searched me and known me.

2 I ch sitze oder stehe auf, so weißt du es; du verstehst meine Gedanken von ferne.

Thou knowest my sitting down and my rising up, thou dost understand my thoughts from afar.

3 I ch gehe oder liege, so bist du um mich und siehst alle meine Wege.

Thou hast girded my walk and my rest, and hast prepared all my ways.

4 D enn siehe, es ist kein Wort auf meiner Zunge, das du, HERR, nicht alles wissest.

For the word is not even upon my tongue, and, behold, O LORD, thou dost know it altogether.

5 V on allen Seiten umgibst du mich und hältst deine Hand über mir.

Thou hast formed my face and my insides and laid thine hand upon me.

6 S olche Erkenntnis ist mir zu wunderbar und zu hoch; ich kann sie nicht begreifen.

Thy knowledge is wonderful beyond my ability to comprehend; it is high, I cannot understand it.

7 W o soll ich hin gehen vor deinem Geist, und wo soll ich hin fliehen vor deinem Angesicht?

¶ Where shall I go from thy spirit? or where shall I flee from thy presence?

8 F ühre ich gen Himmel, so bist du da. Bettete ich mir in die Hölle, siehe, so bist du auch da.

If I ascend to the heavens, thou art there: if I make my bed in Sheol, behold, thou art there.

9 N ähme ich Flügel der Morgenröte und bliebe am äußersten Meer,

If I take the wings of the dawn and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,

10 s o würde mich doch deine Hand daselbst führen und deine Rechte mich halten.

even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.

11 S präche ich: Finsternis möge mich decken! so muß die Nacht auch Licht um mich sein.

If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall shine because of me.

12 D enn auch Finsternis ist nicht finster bei dir, und die Nacht leuchtet wie der Tag, Finsternis ist wie das Licht.

Even the darkness does not hide from thee; but the night shines as the day; the darkness is as the light.

13 D enn du hast meine Nieren bereitet und hast mich gebildet im Mutterleib.

For thou hast possessed my kidneys: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.

14 I ch danke dir dafür, daß ich wunderbar gemacht bin; wunderbar sind deine Werke, und das erkennt meine Seele wohl.

I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvellous are thy works, and that, my soul knows right well.

15 E s war dir mein Gebein nicht verhohlen, da ich im Verborgenen gemacht ward, da ich gebildet ward unten in der Erde.

My body was not hid from thee, even though I was made in secret and brought together in the lowest parts of the earth.

16 D eine Augen sahen mich, da ich noch unbereitet war, und alle Tage waren auf dein Buch geschrieben, die noch werden sollten, als derselben keiner da war.

Thine eyes did see my substance yet being imperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which were then formed, without lacking one of them.

17 A ber wie köstlich sind vor mir, Gott, deine Gedanken! Wie ist ihrer so eine große Summe!

¶ Therefore, how precious are thy thoughts unto me, O God! How great is the sum of them!

18 S ollte ich sie zählen, so würde ihrer mehr sein denn des Sandes. Wenn ich aufwache, bin ich noch bei dir.

If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand; when I awake, I am still with thee.

19 A ch Gott, daß du tötetest die Gottlosen, und die Blutgierigen von mir weichen müßten!

Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God; depart from me therefore, ye bloodthirsty men.

20 D enn sie reden von dir lästerlich, und deine Feinde erheben sich ohne Ursache.

For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.

21 I ch hasse ja, HERR, die dich hassen, und es verdrießt mich an ihnen, daß sie sich wider dich setzen.

Do I not hate all those, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?

22 I ch hasse sie im rechten Ernst; sie sind mir zu Feinden geworden.

I hate them with perfect hatred; I count them mine enemies.

23 E rforsche mich, Gott, und erfahre mein Herz; prüfe mich und erfahre, wie ich's meine.

Search me, O God, and know my heart; try me and know my thoughts

24 U nd siehe, ob ich auf bösem Wege bin, und leite mich auf ewigem Wege.

and see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way eternal.
