1 U nd Hiram, der König zu Tyrus, sandte seine Knechte zu Salomo; denn er hatte gehört, daß sie ihn zum König gesalbt hatten an seines Vaters Statt. Denn Hiram liebte David sein Leben lang.

¶ Hiram, king of Tyre, also sent his slaves unto Solomon when he heard that they had anointed him king in the place of his father; for Hiram had always loved David.

2 U nd Salomo sandte zu Hiram und ließ ihm sagen:

Then Solomon sent to Hiram, saying,

3 D u weißt, daß mein Vater David nicht konnte bauen ein Haus dem Namen des HERRN, seines Gottes, um des Krieges willen, der um ihn her war, bis sie der HERR unter seiner Füße Sohlen gab.

Thou knowest how David, my father, could not build a house unto the name of the LORD his God, for the wars which were about him on every side, until the LORD put his enemies under the soles of his feet.

4 N un aber hat mir der HERR, mein Gott, Ruhe gegeben umher, daß kein Widersacher noch böses Hindernis mehr ist.

Now the LORD my God has given me rest on every side so that there is neither adversary nor evil encounter.

5 S iehe, so habe ich gedacht, ein Haus zu bauen dem Namen des HERRN, meines Gottes, wie der HERR geredet hat zu meinem Vater David und gesagt: Dein Sohn, den ich an deine Statt setzen werde auf deinen Stuhl, der soll meinem Namen das Haus bauen.

And, therefore, I have determined to build a house unto the name of the LORD my God as the LORD spoke unto David, my father, saying, Thy son, whom I will set upon thy throne in thy place, he shall build a house unto my name.

6 S o befiehl nun, daß man mir Zedern aus dem Libanon haue, und daß deine Knechte mit meinen Knechten seien. Und den Lohn deiner Knechte will ich dir geben, alles, wie du sagst. Denn du weißt, daß bei uns niemand ist, der Holz zu hauen wisse wie die Sidonier.

Command, therefore, now that they hew me cedar trees out of Lebanon, and my slaves shall be with thy slaves, and I will give thee for thy slaves the hire that thou shalt appoint, for thou knowest that there is no one among us with the skill to hew timber like the Sidonians.

7 D a Hiram aber hörte die Worte Salomos, freute er sich hoch und sprach: Gelobt sei der HERR heute, der David einen weisen Sohn gegeben hat über dies große Volk.

And it came to pass, when Hiram heard the words of Solomon, that he rejoiced greatly and said, Blessed be the LORD this day, who has given unto David a wise son over this great people.

8 U nd Hiram sandte zu Salomo und ließ ihm sagen: Ich habe gehört, was du zu mir gesandt hast. Ich will tun nach allem deinem Begehr mit Zedern-und Tannenholz

And Hiram sent to Solomon, saying, I have heard that which thou didst send to tell me, and I will do all thy desire concerning the timber of cedar and concerning the timber of fir.

9 M eine Knechte sollen die Stämme vom Libanon hinabbringen ans Meer, und will sie in Flöße legen lassen auf dem Meer bis an den Ort, den du mir wirst ansagen lassen, und will sie daselbst abbinden, und du sollst's holen lassen. Aber du sollst auch mein Begehr tun und Speise geben meinem Gesinde.

My slaves shall bring them down from Lebanon unto the sea, and I will convey them by sea in rafts unto the place that thou shalt appoint me and will cause them to be discharged there, and thou shalt receive them; and thou shalt accomplish my desire, in giving food for my household.

10 A lso gab Hiram Salomo Zedern-und Tannenholz nach allem seinem Begehr.

¶ So Hiram gave Solomon cedar trees and fir trees according to all his desire.

11 S alomo aber gab Hiram zwanzigtausend Kor Weizen, zu essen für sein Gesinde, und zwanzig Kor gestoßenen Öls. Solches gab Salomo jährlich dem Hiram.

And Solomon gave Hiram twenty thousand measures of wheat for food to his household and twenty thousand measures of pure oil; this gave Solomon to Hiram year by year.

12 U nd der HERR gab Salomo Weisheit, wie er ihm geredet hatte. Und es war Friede zwischen Hiram und Salomo, und sie machten beide einen Bund miteinander.

And the LORD gave Solomon wisdom as he promised him; and there was peace between Hiram and Solomon, and the two made a covenant together.

13 U nd Salomo hob Fronarbeiter aus von ganz Israel, und ihre Zahl war dreißigtausend Mann,

And king Solomon raised a levy out of all Israel, and the levy was thirty thousand men,

14 u nd sandte sie auf den Libanon, je einen Monat zehntausend, daß sie einen Monat auf dem Libanon waren und zwei Monate daheim. Und Adoniram war über solche Anzahl.

whom he sent to Lebanon, ten thousand a month by courses; they were a month in Lebanon and two months at home; and Adoniram was over the levy.

15 U nd Salomo hatte siebzigtausend, die Last trugen, und achtzigtausend, die da Steine hieben auf dem Berge,

And Solomon had seventy thousand that bore burdens and eighty thousand hewers in the mountains;

16 o hne die obersten Amtleute Salomos, die über das Werk gesetzt waren: dreitausenddreihundert, welche über das Volk herrschten, das da am Werk arbeitete.

besides Solomon’s chief officers who were over the work, there were three thousand three hundred who ruled over the people that did the work.

17 u nd der König gebot, daß sie große und köstliche Steine ausbrächen, gehauene Steine zum Grund des Hauses.

And the king commanded that they bring great stones, costly stones, for the foundation of the house, and hewed stones.

18 U nd die Bauleute Salomos und die Bauleute Hirams und die Gebaliter hieben aus und bereiteten zu Holz und Steine, zu bauen das Haus.

And Solomon’s builders and Hiram’s builders hewed them, and the stonesquarers; so they prepared timber and stones to build the house.
