1 Q uando o rei Ezequias soube disso, rasgou suas vestes, vestiu pano de saco e entrou no templo do Senhor.

¶ And it came to pass when king Hezekiah heard it, that he rent his clothes and covered himself with sackcloth and went into the house of the LORD.

2 D epois enviou o administrador do palácio, Eliaquim, o secretário Sebna e os chefes dos sacerdotes, todos vestidos de pano de saco, ao profeta Isaías, filho de Amoz,

And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the scribe and the elders of the priests covered with sackcloth unto Isaiah the prophet the son of Amoz.

3 c om esta mensagem: “Assim diz Ezequias: Hoje é dia de angústia, de repreensão e de vergonha, como quando uma criança está a ponto de nascer e não há forças para dá-la à luz.

And they said unto him, Thus saith Hezekiah, This day is a day of trouble and of rebuke and of blasphemy, for the sons are come to the breaking of the water, and there is no strength in her who is to bring them forth.

4 T alvez o Senhor, o seu Deus, ouça as palavras do comandante de campo, a quem o seu senhor, o rei da Assíria, enviou para zombar do Deus vivo. E que o Senhor, o seu Deus, o repreenda pelas palavras que ouviu. Portanto, ore pelo remanescente que ainda sobrevive”.

It may be the LORD thy God will hear the words of Rabshakeh, whom the king of Assyria his master has sent to blaspheme the living God and to reprove with the words which the LORD thy God has heard; therefore lift up thy prayer for the remnant that is still left.

5 Q uando os oficiais do rei Ezequias vieram a Isaías,

So the slaves of king Hezekiah came to Isaiah.

6 e ste lhes respondeu: “Digam a seu senhor: Assim diz o Senhor: ‘Não tenha medo das palavras que você ouviu, das blasfêmias que os servos do rei da Assíria falaram contra mim.

And Isaiah said unto them, Thus shall ye say unto your master, Thus saith the LORD, Do not be afraid of the words that thou hast heard, with which the servants of the king of Assyria have blasphemed me.

7 P orei nele um espírito para que, quando ouvir uma certa notícia, volte à sua própria terra, e ali farei com que seja morto à espada’”.

Behold, that I am sending a spirit in him, and he shall hear a rumour and return to his own land; and I will cause him to fall by the sword in his own land.

8 Q uando o comandante de campo soube que o rei da Assíria havia partido de Láquis, retirou-se e encontrou o rei lutando contra Libna.

¶ So Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria warring against Libnah, for he had heard that he was departed from Lachish.

9 O ra, Senaqueribe foi informado de que Tiraca, o rei da Etiópia, saíra para lutar contra ele. Quando soube disso, enviou mensageiros a Ezequias com esta mensagem:

And he heard say concerning Tirhakah king of Ethiopia, He is come forth to make war with thee. And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying,

10 “ Digam a Ezequias, rei de Judá: Não deixe que o Deus no qual você confia o engane quando diz: ‘Jerusalém não será entregue nas mãos do rei da Assíria’.

Thus shall ye speak to Hezekiah king of Judah, saying, Do not let thy God, in whom thou dost trust, deceive thee, saying, Jerusalem shall not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.

11 C om certeza você ouviu o que os reis da Assíria têm feito a todas as nações, e como as destruíram por completo. E você acha que se livrará?

Behold, thou hast heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands by destroying them utterly, and shalt thou be delivered?

12 A caso os deuses das nações que foram destruídas pelos meus antepassados os livraram: os deuses de Gozã, de Harã, de Rezefe e dos descendentes de Éden, que estavam em Telassar?

Have the gods of the Gentiles delivered those whom my fathers have destroyed, as Gozan and Haran and Rezeph and the sons of Eden which were in Telassar?

13 O nde estão o rei de Hamate, o rei de Arpade, o rei da cidade de Sefarvaim, de Hena e de Iva?” A Oração de Ezequias

Where is the king of Hamath and the king of Arphad and the king of the city of Sepharvaim Hena, and Ivah?

14 E zequias recebeu a carta das mãos dos mensageiros e a leu. Então subiu ao templo do Senhor, abriu-a diante do Senhor

And Hezekiah took the letters from the hand of the messengers and read them; and Hezekiah went up unto the house of the LORD and spread them before the LORD.

15 e orou:

And Hezekiah prayed unto the LORD, saying,

16 “ Senhor dos Exércitos, Deus de Israel, cujo trono está entre os querubins, só tu és Deus sobre todos os reinos da terra. Tu fizeste os céus e a terra.

O LORD of the hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubim, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; thou hast made the heavens and earth.

17 D á ouvidos, Senhor, e ouve; abre os teus olhos, Senhor, e vê; escuta todas as palavras que Senaqueribe enviou para insultar o Deus vivo.

Incline thine ear, O LORD, and hear; open thine eyes, O LORD, and see and hear all the words of Sennacherib, who has sent his messengers to blaspheme the living God.

18 “ É verdade, Senhor, que os reis assírios fizeram de todas essas nações e de seus territórios um deserto.

Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations and their countries

19 A tiraram os deuses delas no fogo e os destruíram, pois em vez de deuses, não passam de madeira e pedra, moldados por mãos humanas.

and have cast their gods into the fire, for they were no gods, but the work of men’s hands, wood and stone; therefore they have destroyed them.

20 A gora, Senhor nosso Deus, salva-nos das mãos dele, para que todos os reinos da terra saibam que só tu, Senhor, és Deus ”. A Queda de Senaqueribe

Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD, even thou only.

21 E ntão Isaías, filho de Amoz, enviou esta mensagem a Ezequias: “Assim diz o Senhor, Deus de Israel: ‘Ouvi a sua oração acerca de Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria.

¶ Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent unto Hezekiah, saying, Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Whereas thou hast prayed to me against Sennacherib king of Assyria:

22 E sta é a palavra que o Senhor falou contra ele: “‘A Virgem Cidade de Sião despreza e zomba de você. A cidade de Jerusalém meneia a cabeça enquanto você foge.

This is the word which the LORD has spoken concerning him, Has he despised thee? Has he laughed thee to scorn O virgin daughter of Zion? Has he shaken his head behind thy back O daughter of Jerusalem?

23 D e quem você zombou e contra quem blasfemou? Contra quem você ergueu a voz e contra quem levantou seu olhar arrogante? Contra o Santo de Israel!

Whom hast thou reproached and blasphemed? and against whom hast thou exalted thy voice and lifted up thine eyes on high? even against the Holy One of Israel.

24 S im, você insultou o Senhor por meio dos seus mensageiros, dizendo: “Com carros sem conta subi aos mais elevados e inacessíveis cumes do Líbano. Derrubei os seus cedros mais altos, os seus melhores pinheiros. Entrei em suas regiões mais remotas, na melhor parte de suas florestas.

By the hand of thy slaves thou hast reproached the Lord, and hast said, By the multitude of my chariots I shall come up to the height of the mountains to the sides of Lebanon, and I will cut down the tall cedars thereof and the choice fir trees thereof; and I will enter into the height of his border and the forest of his Carmel.

25 E m terras estrangeiras cavei poços e bebi água. Com as solas dos meus pés sequei todos os riachos do Egito”.

I have dug and drunk water; and with the sole of my feet shall I dry up all the rivers of sustenance.

26 “ ‘Você não soube que há muito eu já o havia ordenado, que desde os dias da antigüidade eu o havia planejado? Agora eu o executo, e faço você transformar cidades fortificadas em montões de pedra.

Hast thou not heard long ago how I have done it and of ancient times that I have formed it? Now I have brought it to pass, that thou should be to lay waste defenced cities into ruinous heaps.

27 O s seus habitantes, já sem forças, desanimam-se envergonhados. São como pastagens, como brotos tenros e verdes, como capim no terraço, queimado antes de crescer.

And their inhabitants, of little strength, dismayed and confounded shall be as the grass of the field and as the green shrub as the grass on the housetops, that before it comes to maturity it is dried up.

28 “ ‘Eu, porém, sei onde você está, quando sai e quando retorna, e quando você se enfurece contra mim.

I have understood thy state, thy going out and thy coming in, and thy rage against me.

29 S im, contra mim você se enfurece, o seu atrevimento chegou aos meus ouvidos; por isso, porei o meu anzol em seu nariz e o meu freio em sua boca, e o farei voltar pelo caminho por onde veio.

Because thy rage against me, and thy tumult, is come up into my ears, therefore I will put my hook in thy nose and my bridle in thy lips, and I will turn thee back by the way by which thou didst come.

30 “ ‘A você, Ezequias, darei este sinal: “‘Neste ano vocês comerão do que crescer por si, e no próximo o que daquilo brotar. Mas no terceiro ano semeiem e colham, plantem vinhas e comam o seu fruto.

And this shall be a sign unto thee, Ye shall eat this year such as grows of itself; and the second year that which springs of the same: and in the third year ye shall sow and shall reap and shall plant vineyards and shall eat the fruit thereof.

31 M ais uma vez um remanescente da tribo de Judá lançará raízes na terra e se encherão de frutos os seus ramos.

And the remnant that is escaped of the house of Judah shall again take root downward and bear fruit upward:

32 D e Jerusalém sairão sobreviventes, e um remanescente do monte Sião. O zelo do Senhor dos Exércitos realizará isso’.

For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant and from Mount Zion shall come an escape; the zeal of the LORD of the hosts shall do this.

33 “ Por isso, assim diz o Senhor acerca do rei da Assíria: “‘Ele não entrará nesta cidade e não atirará aqui uma flecha sequer. Não virá diante dela com escudo nem construirá rampas de cerco contra ela.

Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it.

34 P elo caminho por onde veio voltará; não entrará nesta cidade’, declara o Senhor.

By the way that he came, by the same shall he return and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD.

35 “ ‘Eu defenderei esta cidade e a salvarei, por amor de mim e por amor de Davi, meu servo!’”

For I will defend this city to save it for my own sake and for my slave David’s sake.

36 E ntão o anjo do Senhor saiu e matou cento e oitenta e cinco mil homens no acampamento assírio. Quando o povo se levantou na manhã seguinte, só havia cadáveres!

Then the angel of the LORD went forth and smote in the camp of the Assyrians a hundred and eighty-five thousand; and when they arose early in the morning, behold, they were all dead corpses.

37 A ssim Senaqueribe, rei da Assíria, fugiu do acampamento, voltou para Nínive e lá ficou.

So Sennacherib king of Assyria departed and went and returned and dwelt at Nineveh.

38 C erto dia, quando estava adorando no templo de seu deus Nisroque, seus filhos Adrameleque e Sarezer o feriram à espada, e fugiram para a terra de Ararate. E seu filho Esar-Hadom foi o seu sucessor.

And it came to pass, as he was worshipping in the house of Nisroch his god, that Adrammelech and Sharezer his sons smote him with the sword; and they escaped into the land of Ararat and Esarhaddon his son reigned in his stead.
