¶ My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger,

2 e caiu na armadilha das palavras que você mesmo disse, está prisioneiro do que falou.

thou art snared with the words of thy mouth; thou art taken with the words of thy mouth.

3 E ntão, meu filho, uma vez que você caiu nas mãos do seu próximo, vá e humilhe-se; insista, incomode o seu próximo!

Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, for thou hast fallen into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend.

4 N ão se entregue ao sono, não procure descansar.

Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids.

5 L ivre-se como a gazela se livra do caçador, como a ave do laço que a pode prender.

Escape as a roe from the hand of the hunter and as a bird from the hand of the fowler.

6 O bserve a formiga, preguiçoso, reflita nos caminhos dela e seja sábio!

¶ Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise,

7 E la não tem nem chefe, nem supervisor, nem governante,

Who having no guide, overseer, or ruler,

8 e ainda assim armazena as suas provisões no verão e na época da colheita ajunta o seu alimento.

provides her food in the summer and gathers her food in the harvest.

9 A té quando você vai ficar deitado, preguiçoso? Quando se levantará de seu sono?

How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep?

10 T irando uma soneca, cochilando um pouco, cruzando um pouco os braços para descansar,

Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep:

11 a sua pobreza o surpreenderá como um assaltante, e a sua necessidade lhe sobrevirá como um homem armado.

So shall thy poverty come as one that travels and thy want as an armed man.

12 O perverso não tem caráter. Anda de um lado para o outro dizendo coisas maldosas;

¶ A wicked man of Belial walks with a perverse mouth.

13 p isca o olho, arrasta os pés e faz sinais com os dedos;

He winks with his eyes, he speaks with his feet, he teaches with his fingers;

14 t em no coração o propósito de enganar; planeja sempre o mal e semeia discórdia.

there is perversion in his heart; he devises evil continually; he sows discord.

15 P or isso a desgraça se abaterá repentinamente sobre ele; de um golpe será destruído, irremediavelmente.

Therefore his calamity shall come suddenly; suddenly he shall be broken without remedy.

16 H á seis coisas que o Senhor odeia, sete coisas que ele detesta:

These six things does the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him:

17 o lhos altivos, língua mentirosa, mãos que derramam sangue inocente,

A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood,

18 c oração que traça planos perversos, pés que se apressam para fazer o mal,

a heart that devises wicked imaginations, feet that are swift in running to evil,

19 a testemunha falsa que espalha mentiras e aquele que provoca discórdia entre irmãos. Advertências contra o Adultério

a false witness that speaks lies, and he that sows discord among brethren.

20 M eu filho, obedeça aos mandamentos de seu pai e não abandone o ensino de sua mãe.

¶ My son, keep thy father’s commandment and forsake not the law of thy mother:

21 A marre-os sempre junto ao coração; ate-os ao redor do pescoço.

Bind them continually upon thine heart and tie them about thy neck.

22 Q uando você andar, eles o guiarão; quando dormir, o estarão protegendo; quando acordar, falarão com você.

When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee.

23 P ois o mandamento é lâmpada, a instrução é luz, e as advertências da disciplina são o caminho que conduz à vida;

For the commandment is fire, and the law is light; and reproofs of chastening are the way of life,

24 e les o protegerão da mulher imoral, e dos falsos elogios da mulher leviana.

to keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman.

25 N ão cobice em seu coração a sua beleza nem se deixe seduzir por seus olhares,

Lust not after her beauty in thine heart, neither let her take thee with her eyes.

26 p ois o preço de uma prostituta é um pedaço de pão, mas a adúltera sai à caça de vidas preciosas.

For by means of a whorish woman a man is reduced to a piece of bread, and the woman will hunt the precious soul of the man.

27 P ode alguém colocar fogo no peito sem queimar a roupa?

Can a man take fire in his bosom and his clothes not be burned?

28 P ode alguém andar sobre brasas sem queimar os pés?

Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned?

29 A ssim acontece com quem se deita com mulher alheia; ninguém que a toque ficará sem castigo.

So is he that goes in to his neighbour’s wife; whosoever touches her shall not be innocent.

30 O ladrão não é desprezado se, faminto, rouba para matar a fome.

Men do not take a thief lightly, even if he steals to satisfy his soul when he is hungry;

31 C ontudo, se for pego, deverá pagar sete vezes o que roubou, embora isso lhe custe tudo o que tem em casa.

and once he is taken, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house.

32 M as o homem que comete adultério não tem juízo; todo aquele que assim procede a si mesmo se destrói.

But whosoever commits adultery with a woman has a fault in his heart; he that does it corrupts his own soul.

33 S ofrerá ferimentos e vergonha, e a sua humilhação jamais se apagará,

A wound and dishonour shall he get, and his reproach shall never be wiped away.

34 p ois o ciúme desperta a fúria do marido, que não terá misericórdia quando se vingar.

For the jealous rage of a man will not spare in the day of vengeance.

35 N ão aceitará nenhuma compensação; os melhores presentes não o acalmarão.

He will not regard any ransom; neither will he want to forgive, though thou givest many bribes.
