1 Q uando Jeremias acabou de dizer ao povo tudo o que o Senhor, o seu Deus, lhe mandara dizer,

¶ And it came to pass, that when Jeremiah had made an end of speaking unto all the people all the words of the LORD their God, for which the LORD their God had sent him to them, even all these words,

2 A zarias, filho de Hosaías, e Joanã, filho de Careá, e todos os homens arrogantes disseram a Jeremias: “Você está mentindo! O Senhor não lhe mandou dizer que não fôssemos residir no Egito.

Then spoke Azariah the son of Hoshaiah, and Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the proud men, saying unto Jeremiah, Thou dost speak falsely; the LORD our God has not sent thee to say, Do not go into Egypt to sojourn there:

3 M as é Baruque, filho de Nerias, que o está instigando contra nós para que sejamos entregues nas mãos dos babilônios, a fim de que nos matem ou nos levem para o exílio na Babilônia”.

but Baruch the son of Neriah sets thee on against us, to deliver us into the hand of the Chaldeans, that they might put us to death and carry us away captives into Babylon.

4 A ssim Joanã, filho de Careá, todos os comandantes do exército e todo o povo desobedeceram à ordem do Senhor de que permanecessem na terra de Judá.

So Johanan the son of Kareah and all the princes of the armies and all the people, did not hear the voice of the LORD, to dwell in the land of Judah.

5 E Joanã, filho de Careá, e todos os comandantes do exército levaram todo o remanescente de Judá que tinha voltado de todas as nações para onde haviam sido espalhados a fim de viver na terra de Judá:

But Johanan the son of Kareah, and all the princes of the armies, took all the remnant of Judah, that had returned from among all the Gentiles, where they had been driven, to dwell in the land of Judah;

6 t odos os homens, mulheres e crianças, as filhas do rei, todos os que Nebuzaradã, o comandante da guarda imperial, deixara com Gedalias, filho de Aicam, neto de Safã; além do profeta Jeremias e de Baruque, filho de Nerias.

men and women and children and the king’s daughters, and every soul that Nebuzaradan the captain of the guard had left with Gedaliah the son of Ahikam the son of Shaphan, and Jeremiah the prophet, and Baruch the son of Neriah;

7 E les foram para o Egito, desobedecendo ao Senhor, indo até Tafnes.

and they left for the land of Egypt; because they did not listen to the voice of the LORD: thus they came even to Tahpanhes.

8 E m Tafnes, o Senhor dirigiu a palavra a Jeremias, dizendo:

¶ Then the word of the LORD came unto Jeremiah in Tahpanhes, saying,

9 “ Pegue algumas pedras grandes e, à vista dos homens de Judá, enterre-as no barro do pavimento à entrada do palácio do faraó, em Tafnes.

Take great stones in thine hand and cover them with clay in a brickkiln, which is at the entry of Pharaoh’s house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah;

10 E ntão diga-lhes: Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, Deus de Israel: Mandarei chamar meu servo Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, e ele colocará o seu trono sobre essas pedras que enterrei, e estenderá a sua tenda real sobre elas.

and say unto them, Thus hath the LORD of the hosts, the God of Israel said; Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadrezzar the king of Babylon, my slave and will set his throne upon these stones that I have hid, and he shall spread his royal pavilion over them.

11 E le virá e atacará o Egito, trará a morte aos destinados à morte, o cativeiro aos destinados ao cativeiro, e a espada aos destinados a morrer à espada.

And he shall come and smite the land of Egypt and deliver such as are for death to death; and such as are for captivity to captivity; and such as are for the sword to the sword.

12 E le incendiará os templos dos deuses do Egito; queimará seus templos e levará embora cativos os seus deuses. Como um pastor tira os piolhos do seu manto, assim ele tirará os piolhos do seu Egito, e sairá em paz.

And I will put fire to the houses of the gods of Egypt; and he shall burn them and carry them away captives: and he shall array himself with the land of Egypt as a shepherd puts on his garment; and he shall go forth from there in peace.

13 E le despedaçará as colunas no templo do sol, no Egito, e incendiará os templos dos deuses do Egito”.

He shall also break the images of Bethshemesh, that is in the land of Egypt; and the houses of the gods of the Egyptians shall he burn with fire.
