1 A ntes de tudo, recomendo que se façam súplicas, orações, intercessões e ações de graças por todos os homens;

¶ I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men,

2 p elos reis e por todos os que exercem autoridade, para que tenhamos uma vida tranqüila e pacífica, com toda a piedade e dignidade.

for kings, and for all that are in authority that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and integrity.

3 I sso é bom e agradável perante Deus, nosso Salvador,

For this is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Saviour,

4 q ue deseja que todos os homens sejam salvos e cheguem ao conhecimento da verdade.

who desires that all men be saved and come unto the knowledge of the truth.

5 P ois há um só Deus e um só mediador entre Deus e os homens: o homem Cristo Jesus,

For there is only one God and likewise only one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus,

6 o qual se entregou a si mesmo como resgate por todos. Esse foi o testemunho dado em seu próprio tempo.

who gave himself in ransom for all, the testimony of which was confirmed at the time,

7 P ara isso fui designado pregador e apóstolo (Digo-lhes a verdade, não minto.), mestre da verdadeira fé aos gentios.

of which I am ordained a preacher and an apostle (I speak the truth in Christ and do not lie), a teacher of the Gentiles in faith and verity.

8 Q uero, pois, que os homens orem em todo lugar, levantando mãos santas, sem ira e sem discussões.

I desire, therefore, that the men in every place, pray, lifting up holy hands, without wrath and strife.

9 D a mesma forma, quero que as mulheres se vistam modestamente, com decência e discrição, não se adornando com tranças e com ouro, nem com pérolas ou com roupas caras,

¶ In like manner also that the women adorn themselves in an honest manner, with shyness and modesty, not with ostentatious hair or gold or pearls or costly clothing

10 m as com boas obras, como convém a mulheres que declaram adorar a Deus.

but with good works (as becomes women professing godliness).

11 A mulher deve aprender em silêncio, com toda a sujeição.

Let the woman learn, becoming silent in all subjection.

12 N ão permito que a mulher ensine, nem que tenha autoridade sobre o homem. Esteja, porém, em silêncio.

For I do not allow a woman to teach, nor to usurp authority over a mature man, but to be at rest.

13 P orque primeiro foi formado Adão, e depois Eva.

For Adam was formed first, then Eve.

14 E Adão não foi enganado, mas sim a mulher que, tendo sido enganada, tornou-se transgressora.

And Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived in the rebellion;

15 E ntretanto, a mulher será salva dando à luz filhos — se permanecerem na fé, no amor e na santidade, com bom senso.

notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if she continues in faith and charity and sanctification and modesty.
