1 A sabedoria construiu sua casa; ergueu suas sete colunas.

¶ Wisdom has built her house; she has hewn out her seven pillars:

2 M atou animais para a refeição, preparou seu vinho e arrumou sua mesa.

She has killed her sacrifice; she has mingled her wine; and she has furnished her table.

3 E nviou suas servas para fazerem convites desde o ponto mais alto da cidade, clamando:

She has sent forth her maidens; she cries upon the highest places of the city,

4 “ Venham todos os inexperientes!” Aos que não têm bom senso ela diz:

whosoever is simple, let him turn in here; as for those that lack understanding, she saith unto him,

5 “ Venham comer a minha comida e beber o vinho que preparei.

Come, eat of my bread, and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

6 D eixem a insensatez, e vocês terão vida; andem pelo caminho do entendimento.

Forsake that which is foolish and live and go in the way of understanding.

7 “ Quem corrige o zombador traz sobre si o insulto; quem repreende o ímpio mancha o próprio nome.

He that chastens a scorner brings shame unto himself, and he that chastens a wicked man brings himself a blot.

8 N ão repreenda o zombador, caso contrário ele o odiará; repreenda o sábio, e ele o amará.

Chasten not a scorner lest he hate thee; chasten a wise man, and he will love thee.

9 I nstrua o homem sábio, e ele será ainda mais sábio; ensine o homem justo, e ele aumentará o seu saber.

Give instruction to a wise man, and he will be yet wiser; teach a just man, and he will increase in learning.

10 “ O temor do Senhor é o princípio da sabedoria, e o conhecimento do Santo é entendimento.

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the holy is understanding.

11 P ois por meu intermédio os seus dias serão multiplicados, e o tempo da sua vida se prolongará.

For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

12 S e você for sábio, o benefício será seu; se for zombador, sofrerá as conseqüências”.

If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself; but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it.

13 A insensatez é pura exibição, sedução e ignorância.

¶ A foolish woman is clamorous: she is simple and knows nothing.

14 S entada à porta de sua casa, no ponto mais alto da cidade,

For she sits at the door of her house on a seat in the high places of the city

15 c lama aos que passam por ali seguindo o seu caminho:

to call to those who pass by the way, to those who straighten their ways;

16 “ Venham todos os inexperientes!” Aos que não têm bom senso ela diz:

Whosoever is simple, let him turn in here; and as for him that lacks understanding, she saith unto him:

17 “ A água roubada é doce, e o pão que se come escondido é saboroso!”

Stolen waters are sweet, and bread eaten in secret is pleasant.

18 M as eles nem imaginam que ali estão os espíritos dos mortos, que os seus convidados estão nas profundezas da sepultura.

But he does not know that the dead are there and that her guests are in the depths of Sheol.
