¶ The sons of Judah: Pharez, Hezron, Carmi, Hur, and Shobal.

2 R eaia, fiul lui Şobal, a născut pe Iahat; Iahat a născut pe Ahumai şi Lahad. Acestea sînt familiile Ţoreatiţilor.

And Reaiah, the son of Shobal, begat Jahath, and Jahath begat Ahumai and Lahad. These are the families of the Zorathites.

3 I ată scoborîtorii tatălui lui Etam: Izreel, Işma şi Idbaş; numele sorei lor era Haţelelponi.

And these were of the father of Etam: Jezreel, Ishma, and Idbash, and the name of their sister was Hazelelponi.

4 P enuel era tatăl lui Ghedor, şi Ezer tatăl lui Huşa. Aceştia sînt fiii lui Hur, întîiul născut al Efratei, tatăl lui Betleem.

And Penuel, the father of Gedor, and Ezer, the father of Hushah. These were the sons of Hur, the firstborn of Ephratah, the father of Bethlehem.

5 A şhur, tatăl lui Tecoa, a avut două neveste, Helea şi Naara.

And Ashur, the father of Tekoa, had two wives, Helah and Naarah.

6 N aara i -a născut pe Ahuzam, pe Hefer, pe Temeni şi pe Ahaştari: aceştia sînt fiii Naarei.

And Naarah gave birth to Ahuzam, Hepher, Temeni, and Haahashtari unto him. These were the sons of Naarah.

7 F iii Heleei: Ţeret, Ţohar şi Etnan.

And the sons of Helah: Zereth, Jezoar, and Ethnan.

8 C oţ a născut pe Anub şi Haţobeba, şi familiile lui Aharhel, fiul lui Harum.

And Coz begat Anub and Zobebah and the family of Aharhel, the son of Harum.

9 I aebeţ era mai cu vază decît fraţii săi; mamă-sa i -a pus numele Iaebeţ (Trist), zicînd:,, Pentru că l-am născut cu durere.``

And Jabez was more honoured than his brethren, and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I gave birth to him with sorrow.

10 I aebeţ a chemat pe Dumnezeul lui Israel, şi a zis:,, Dacă mă vei binecuvînta şi-mi vei întinde hotarele, dacă mîna Ta va fi cu mine, şi dacă mă vei feri de nenorocire, aşa încît să nu fiu în suferinţă!...`` Şi Dumnezeu i -a dat ce ceruse.

And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou would bless me indeed and enlarge my border and that thy hand might be with me and that thou would deliver me from evil, that it may not grieve me! And God granted him that which he requested.

11 C helub, fratele lui Şuha, a născut pe Mechir, care a fost tatăl lui Eşton.

¶ And Chelub, the brother of Shuah, begat Mehir, who was the father of Eshton.

12 E şton a născut casa lui Rafa, Paseah şi Techina, tatăl cetăţii lui Nahaş. Aceştia sînt bărbaţii dela Reca.

And Eshton begat Bethrapha, Paseah, and Tehinnah, the father of Irnahash. These are the men of Rechah.

13 F iii lui Chenaz: Otniel şi Seraia. Fiul lui Otniel: Hatat.

The sons of Kenaz: Othniel and Seraiah. The sons of Othniel: Hathath

14 M eonotai a născut pe Ofra. Seraia a născut pe Ioab, tatăl văii lucrătorilor; căci erau lucrători.

and Meonothai, who begat Ophrah. And Seraiah begat Joab, the father of the inhabitants of the valley of Charashim, for they were craftsmen.

15 F iii lui Caleb, fiul lui Iefune: Iru, Ela şi Naam, şi fiii lui Ela, şi Chenaz.

The sons of Caleb, the son of Jephunneh: Iru, Elah, and Naam; and Kenaz was the son of Elah.

16 F iii lui Iehaleleel: Zif, Zifa, Tiria şi Asareel.

The sons of Jehaleleel: Ziph, Ziphah, Tiria, and Asareel.

17 F iii lui Ezra: Ieter, Mered, Efer şi Ialon. Nevasta lui Mered a născut pe Miriam, pe Şamai, şi pe Işbah, tatăl lui Eştemoa.

And the sons of Ezra: Jether, Mered, Epher, and Jalon; and also begat Miriam, Shammai, and Ishbah, the father of Eshtemoa.

18 N evastă-sa, Iudeica, a născut pe Iered, tatăl lui Ghedor, pe Eber, tatăl lui Soco, şi pe Iecutiel, tatăl lui Zanoah. Aceştia sînt fiii Bitiei, fata lui Faraon, pe care a luat -o Mered de nevastă.

And his wife Jehudijah gave birth unto him Jered, the father of Gedor, and Heber, the father of Socho, and Jekuthiel, the father of Zanoah. And these are the sons of Bithiah, the daughter of Pharaoh, which Mered took.

And the sons of Shimon: Amnon, Rinnah, Benhanan, and Tilon. And the sons of Ishi: Zoheth and Benzoheth.

21 F iii lui Şela, fiul lui Iuda: Er, tatăl lui Leca, Laeda, tatăl lui Mareşa, şi familiile casei unde se lucrează pînza, din casa lui Aşbea,

The sons of Shelah, the son of Judah: Er, the father of Lecah, and Laadah, the father of Mareshah, and the families of the house of those that wrought fine linen, of the house of Ashbea,

22 ş i Iochim, şi oamenii lui Cozeba, şi Ioas şi Saraf, cari au stăpînit asupra Moabului şi Iaşubi-Lehem. Aceste lucruri sînt vechi.

and Jokim and the men of Chozeba, and Joash and Saraph, who had the dominion in Moab, and Jashubilehem. And these are ancient words.

23 E i erau olari şi locuiau în livezi şi în lunci; locuiau acolo lîngă împărat şi lucrau pentru el.

These were the potters and those that dwelt among plants and hedges, who dwelt there with the king for his work.

24 F iii lui Simeon: Nemuel, Iamin, Iarib, Zerah, Saul.

¶ The sons of Simeon: Nemuel, Jamin, Jarib, Zerah, Saul;

25 F iul lui Saul: Şalum, Mibsam, fiul său; Mişma, fiul său.

also Shallum, his son, Mibsam, his son, and Mishma, his son.

26 F iii lui Mişma: Hamuel, fiul său. Zacur, fiul său; Şimei, fiul său.

The sons of Mishma: Hamuel, his son, Zacchur, his son, Shimei his son.

27 Ş imei a avut şasesprezece fii şi şase fiice. Fraţii săi n'au avut mulţi fii. Şi toate familiile lor nu s'au înmulţit atît cît fiii lui Iuda.

And Shimei had sixteen sons and six daughters, but his brethren did not have many children, neither did all their family multiply, like the sons of Judah.

28 E i locuiau la Beer-Şeba, la Molada, la Haţar-Şual,

And they dwelt at Beersheba and Moladah and Hazarshual

29 l a Bilha, la Eţem, la Tolad,

and at Bilhah and at Ezem and at Tolad

30 L a Betuel, la Horma, la Ţiclag,

and at Bethuel and at Hormah and at Ziklag

31 l a Bet-Marcabot, la Haţar-Susim, la Bet-Birei şi la Şaaraim. Acestea au fost cetăţile lor pînă la domnia lui David,

and at Bethmarcaboth and Hazarsusim and at Bethbirei and at Shaaraim. These were their cities until the reign of David.

And their villages were Etam, Ain, Rimmon, Tochen, and Ashan, five cities;

33 ş i toate satele din împrejurimile acestor cetăţi, pînă la Baal. Iată locuinţele lor şi spiţa neamului lor.

and all their villages that were round about the same cities, unto Baal. These were their habitations and their genealogy.

34 M eşobab; Iamlec; Ioşa, fiul lui Amaţia;

And Meshobab and Jamlech and Joshah, the son of Amaziah,

35 I oel; Iehu, fiul lui Ioşibia, fiul lui Seraia, fiul lui Asiel;

and Joel and Jehu, the son of Josibiah, the son of Seraiah, the son of Asiel,

36 E lioenai; Iaacoba; Ieşohaia; Asaia; Adiel; Iesimiel; Benaia;

and Elioenai, Jaakobah, Jeshohaiah, Asaiah, Adiel, Jesimiel, Benaiah,

37 Z iza, fiul lui Şifei, fiul lui Alon, fiul lui Iedaia, fiul lui Şimri, fiul lui Şemaia.

and Ziza, the son of Shiphi, the son of Allon, the son of Jedaiah, the son of Shimri, the son of Shemaiah.

38 A ceştia, numiţi pe nume, erau domni în familiile lor, şi casele lor părinteşti au crescut mult.

These mentioned by their names were princes in their families, and they were multiplied greatly in the house of their fathers.

39 E i s'au dus înspre Ghedor pînă la răsăritul văii, să caute păşune pentru turmele lor.

And they came unto the entrance of Gedor, even unto the east side of the valley, to seek pasture for their flocks.

40 A u găsit păşune grase şi bune, şi o ţară întinsă, liniştită şi pacinică, fiindcă ceice o locuiau mai înainte se pogorau din Ham.

And they found fat pasture and good, and the land was wide and spacious and quiet and peaceable, for the sons of Ham had dwelt there of old.

41 O amenii aceştia, scrişi pe nume, au venit pe vremea lui Ezechia, împăratul lui Iuda; au sfărîmat corturile lor şi pe Maoniţi, cari se aflau acolo, i-au nimicit cu desăvîrşire pînă în ziua de azi, şi s'au aşezat în locul lor, căci acolo erau păşune pentru turmele lor.

And these written by name came in the days of Hezekiah, king of Judah and smote their tents and the habitations that were found there and destroyed them utterly unto this day and dwelt in their place because there was pasture there for their flocks.

42 Ş i dintre fiii lui Simeon s'au dus la muntele Seir, în număr de cinci sute de oameni. Aveau în frunte pe Pelatia, Nearia, Refaia şi Uziel, fiii lui Işei.

And likewise five hundred men of them, of the sons of Simeon, went to Mount Seir, having for their captains Pelatiah and Neariah and Rephaiah and Uzziel, the sons of Ishi.

43 A u bătut rămăşiţa de Amaleciţi care scăpase cu viaţă şi s'au aşezat acolo pînă în ziua de azi.

And they smote the rest of the Amalekites that were escaped and dwelt there unto this day.
