1 E L hijo sabio toma el consejo del padre: Mas el burlador no escucha las reprensiones.
¶ A wise son takes his father’s chastening: but a scorner does not hear rebuke.
2 D el fruto de su boca el hombre comerá bien: Mas el alma de los prevaricadores hallará mal.
¶ Of the fruit of his mouth man shall eat well: but the soul of the transgressors shall starve.
3 E l que guarda su boca guarda su alma: Mas el que mucho abre sus labios tendrá calamidad.
¶ He that keeps his mouth keeps his life: but he that opens his lips often shall have calamity.
4 D esea, y nada alcanza el alma del perezoso: Mas el alma de los diligentes será engordada.
¶ The soul of the sluggard desires, and attains nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.
5 E l justo aborrece la palabra de mentira: Mas el impío se hace odioso é infame.
¶ The righteous man hates lying: but the wicked man makes himself loathsome, and abominable.
6 L a justicia guarda al de perfecto camino: Mas la impiedad trastornará al pecador.
¶ Righteousness keeps the one of the perfect way: but wickedness overthrows the sinner.
7 H ay quienes se hacen ricos, y no tienen nada: Y hay quienes se hacen pobres, y tienen muchas riquezas.
¶ There are those that make themselves rich, yet have nothing: there are those that make themselves poor, yet have great riches.
8 L a redención de la vida del hombre son sus riquezas: Pero el pobre no oye censuras.
¶ The redemption of a man’s life is his riches: but the poor does not hear rebuke.
9 L a luz de los justos se alegrará: Mas apagaráse la lámpara de los impíos.
¶ The light of the righteous shall rejoice: but the fire of the wicked shall be put out.
10 C iertamente la soberbia parirá contienda: Mas con los avisados es la sabiduría.
¶ Pride shall certainly give birth to contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.
11 D isminuiránse las riquezas de vanidad: Empero multiplicará el que allega con su mano.
¶ The riches of vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathers by labour shall increase.
12 L a esperanza que se prolonga, es tormento del corazón: Mas árbol de vida es el deseo cumplido.
¶ Hope deferred makes the heart sick: but when the desire is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.
13 E l que menosprecia la palabra, perecerá por ello: Mas el que teme el mandamiento, será recompensado.
¶ Whosoever despises the word shall perish by it: but he that fears the commandment shall be rewarded.
14 l a ley del sabio es manantial de vida, Para apartarse de los lazos de la muerte.
¶ The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.
15 E l buen entendimiento conciliará gracia: Mas el camino de los prevaricadores es duro.
¶ Good understanding brings forth grace: but the way of transgressors is hard.
16 T odo hombre cuerdo obra con sabiduría: Mas el necio manifestará necedad.
¶ Every sane man works according to wisdom: but the fool shall manifest his folly.
17 E l mal mensajero caerá en mal: Mas el mensajero fiel es medicina.
¶ A bad messenger shall fall into evil: but a faithful ambassador is medicine.
18 P obreza y vergüenza tendrá el que menosprecia el consejo: Mas el que guarda la corrección, será honrado.
¶ Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuses chastening: but he that regards reproof shall be honoured.
19 E l deseo cumplido deleita el alma: Pero apartarse del mal es abominación á los necios.
¶ The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.
20 E l que anda con los sabios, sabio será; Mas el que se allega á los necios, será quebrantado.
¶ He that walks with wise men shall be wise, but the companion of fools shall be destroyed.
21 M al perseguirá á los pecadores: Mas á los justos les será bien retribuído.
¶ Evil pursues sinners, but to the righteous good shall be repaid.
22 E l bueno dejará herederos á los hijos de los hijos; Y el haber del pecador, para el justo está guardado.
¶ A good man shall leave an inheritance to his children’s children, and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.
23 E n el barbecho de los pobres hay mucho pan: Mas piérdese por falta de juicio.
¶ In the fallow ground of the poor there is much bread, but it is lost for lack of judgment.
24 E l que detiene el castigo, á su hijo aborrece: Mas el que lo ama, madruga á castigarlo.
¶ He that cuts short chastening hates his son, but he that loves him chastens him early.
25 E l justo come hasta saciar su alma: Mas el vientre de los impíos tendrá necesidad.
¶ The righteous eats until his soul is satisfied, but the belly of the wicked shall lack.
