1 М удрый сын наставление отца, а буйный не слушает обличения.

¶ A wise son takes his father’s chastening: but a scorner does not hear rebuke.

2 О т плода уст человек вкусит добро, душа же законопреступников--зло.

¶ Of the fruit of his mouth man shall eat well: but the soul of the transgressors shall starve.

3 К то хранит уста свои, тот бережет душу свою; а кто широко раскрывает свой рот, тому беда.

¶ He that keeps his mouth keeps his life: but he that opens his lips often shall have calamity.

4 Д уша ленивого желает, но тщетно; а душа прилежных насытится.

¶ The soul of the sluggard desires, and attains nothing: but the soul of the diligent shall be made fat.

5 П раведник ненавидит ложное слово, а нечестивый срамит и бесчестит.

¶ The righteous man hates lying: but the wicked man makes himself loathsome, and abominable.

6 П равда хранит непорочного в пути, а нечестие губит грешника.

¶ Righteousness keeps the one of the perfect way: but wickedness overthrows the sinner.

7 И ной выдает себя за богатого, а у него ничего нет; другой выдает себя за бедного, а у него богатства много.

¶ There are those that make themselves rich, yet have nothing: there are those that make themselves poor, yet have great riches.

8 Б огатством своим человек выкупает жизнь, а бедный и угрозы не слышит.

¶ The redemption of a man’s life is his riches: but the poor does not hear rebuke.

9 С вет праведных весело горит, светильник же нечестивых угасает.

¶ The light of the righteous shall rejoice: but the fire of the wicked shall be put out.

10 О т высокомерия происходит раздор, а у советующихся--мудрость.

¶ Pride shall certainly give birth to contention: but with the well advised is wisdom.

11 Б огатство от суетности истощается, а собирающий трудами умножает его.

¶ The riches of vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathers by labour shall increase.

12 Н адежда, долго не сбывающаяся, томит сердце, а исполнившееся желание-- древо жизни.

¶ Hope deferred makes the heart sick: but when the desire is fulfilled, it is a tree of life.

13 К то пренебрегает словом, тот причиняет вред себе; а кто боится заповеди, тому воздается.

¶ Whosoever despises the word shall perish by it: but he that fears the commandment shall be rewarded.

14 У чение мудрого--источник жизни, удаляющий от сетей смерти.

¶ The law of the wise is a fountain of life, to depart from the snares of death.

15 Д обрый разум доставляет приятность, путь же беззаконных жесток.

¶ Good understanding brings forth grace: but the way of transgressors is hard.

16 В сякий благоразумный действует с знанием, а глупый выставляет напоказ глупость.

¶ Every sane man works according to wisdom: but the fool shall manifest his folly.

17 Х удой посол попадает в беду, а верный посланник--спасение.

¶ A bad messenger shall fall into evil: but a faithful ambassador is medicine.

18 Н ищета и посрамление отвергающему учение; а кто соблюдает наставление, будет в чести.

¶ Poverty and shame shall be to him that refuses chastening: but he that regards reproof shall be honoured.

19 Ж елание исполнившееся--приятно для души; но несносно для глупых уклоняться от зла.

¶ The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil.

20 О бщающийся с мудрыми будет мудр, а кто дружит с глупыми, развратится.

¶ He that walks with wise men shall be wise, but the companion of fools shall be destroyed.

21 Г решников преследует зло, а праведникам воздается добром.

¶ Evil pursues sinners, but to the righteous good shall be repaid.

22 Д обрый оставляет наследство внукам, а богатство грешника сберегается для праведного.

¶ A good man shall leave an inheritance to his children’s children, and the wealth of the sinner is laid up for the just.

23 М ного хлеба и на ниве бедных; но некоторые гибнут от беспорядка.

¶ In the fallow ground of the poor there is much bread, but it is lost for lack of judgment.

24 К то жалеет розги своей, тот ненавидит сына; а кто любит, тот с детства наказывает его.

¶ He that cuts short chastening hates his son, but he that loves him chastens him early.

25 П раведник ест до сытости, а чрево беззаконных терпит лишение.

¶ The righteous eats until his soul is satisfied, but the belly of the wicked shall lack.
