1 ¶ Simon Peter, slave and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those that have obtained like precious faith with us in the righteousness of our God and Saviour Jesus Christ:

Yo, Simón Pedro, siervo y apóstol de Jesucristo, envío un saludo a ustedes, que por la justicia de nuestro Dios y Salvador Jesucristo han alcanzado una fe tan preciosa como la nuestra.

2 G race and peace be multiplied unto you in the knowledge of God and of our Lord Jesus,

Que la gracia y la paz les sea multiplicada por medio del conocimiento de Dios y de nuestro Señor Jesús. Partícipes de la naturaleza divina

3 a s all things that pertain to life and to godliness are given us of his divine power, through the knowledge of him that has called us by his glory and virtue,

Todas las cosas que pertenecen a la vida y a la piedad nos han sido dadas por su divino poder, mediante el conocimiento de aquel que nos llamó por su gloria y excelencia.

4 w hereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises, that by these ye might be made participants of the divine nature, having fled the corruption that is in the world through lust.

Por medio de ellas nos ha dado preciosas y grandísimas promesas, para que por ellas ustedes lleguen a ser partícipes de la naturaleza divina, puesto que han huido de la corrupción que hay en el mundo por causa de los malos deseos.

5 ¶ Ye also, giving all diligence to the same, show forth virtue in your faith; and in virtue, knowledge;

Por eso, ustedes deben esforzarse por añadir virtud a su fe, conocimiento a su virtud,

6 a nd in knowledge, temperance; and in temperance, patience; and in patience, fear of God;

dominio propio al conocimiento; paciencia al dominio propio, piedad a la paciencia,

7 a nd in fear of God, brotherly love; and in brotherly love, charity.

afecto fraternal a la piedad, y amor al afecto fraternal.

8 F or if these things are in you and abound, they shall not let you be idle nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Si todo esto abunda en ustedes, serán muy útiles y productivos en el conocimiento de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

9 B ut he that lacks these things is blind and walks feeling the way with his hand, having forgotten that he was purged from his old sins.

Quien no tiene todo esto es corto de vista, o ciego, y ha olvidado que sus antiguos pecados fueron limpiados.

10 T herefore, brethren, give all the more diligence to make your calling and election sure; for doing these things, ye shall never fall.

Por eso, hermanos, procuren fortalecer su llamado y elección. Si hacen esto, jamás caerán.

11 B ecause in this manner the entrance shall be abundantly administered unto you in the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

De esta manera se les abrirán de par en par las puertas del reino eterno de nuestro Señor y Salvador Jesucristo.

12 ¶ For this reason, I will not leave off reminding you always of these things, although ye know them and are established in the present truth.

Por esta razón siempre habré de recordarles estas cosas, aun cuando ya las sepan y estén firmemente afianzados en la verdad que han recibido.

13 B ecause I have the right (as long as I am in this tabernacle) to stir you up by reminding you,

Mientras yo tenga vida, es mi obligación animarlos y recordarles todo esto,

14 k nowing that shortly I must put off this my tabernacle, even as our Lord Jesus Christ has declared unto me.

pues sé que pronto tendré que abandonar este cuerpo, tal y como nuestro Señor Jesucristo me lo ha hecho saber.

15 I will also make sure with diligence that after my decease ye might remember these things.

También debo esforzarme para que después de mi partida ustedes puedan tener siempre presentes todas estas cosas. Testigos presenciales de la gloria de Cristo

16 ¶ For we have not made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, following cunningly devised fables, but as eyewitnesses of his majesty.

Porque, cuando les hicimos saber que nuestro Señor Jesucristo vendrá con todo su poder, no lo hicimos siguiendo fábulas artificiosas, sino como quienes han visto su majestad con sus propios ojos.

17 F or he received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him from the excellent glory, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Pues cuando él recibió de Dios Padre la honra y la gloria, desde la magnífica gloria le fue enviada una voz que decía: «Éste es mi Hijo amado, en quien me complazco.»

18 A nd we heard this voice which came from heaven, when we were together with him in the holy mount.

Y nosotros oímos esa voz que venía del cielo, mientras estábamos con él en el monte santo.

19 ¶ We have also the most sure word of the prophets, unto which ye do well that ye take heed, as unto a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star arises in your hearts,

Además, contamos con la muy confiable palabra profética, a la cual ustedes hacen bien en atender, que es como una antorcha que alumbra en la oscuridad, hasta que aclare el día y el lucero de la mañana salga en el corazón de ustedes.

20 u nderstanding this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.

Pero antes que nada deben entender esto: Ninguna profecía de la Escritura es de interpretación privada,

21 F or the prophecy did not come in times past by the will of man, but the holy men of God spoke being inspired by the Holy Spirit.

porque la profecía nunca estuvo bajo el control de la voluntad humana, sino que los santos hombres de Dios hablaron bajo el control del Espíritu Santo.
