1 ¶ The burden of Babylon, which Isaiah the son of Amoz saw.

Profecía sobre Babilonia, que fue revelada a Isaías hijo de Amoz.

2 L ift ye up a banner as an example upon the high mountain, exalt the voice unto them, raise the hand, that they may enter in by gates of princes.

¡Levanten la bandera sobre un alto monte! ¡Levanten la voz contra ellos! ¡Levanten la mano, para que entren por las puertas de los príncipes!

3 I have commanded my sanctified ones; I have also called my mighty ones for my anger that they might rejoice with my glory.

Yo di órdenes a mis consagrados; convoqué también a mis valientes, a los que se alegran con mi triunfo, para que ejecuten mi castigo.

4 T he noise of a multitude in the mountains like as of a great people; a tumultuous noise of kingdoms, of Gentiles gathered together: the LORD of the hosts orders the host of the battle.

Hay gran estruendo en los montes, como de mucha gente; ruidoso estruendo de reinos, de naciones que se reúnen. El Señor de los ejércitos pasa revista a las tropas para la batalla.

5 T hey come from a far land, from the end of the heavens, even the LORD, and the instruments of his indignation, to destroy the whole earth.

El Señor y los instrumentos de su ira vienen de lejanas tierras, desde los confines de los cielos, para destruir toda la tierra.

6 ¶ Howl; for the day of the LORD is at hand; it shall come as destruction from the Almighty.

¡Griten de dolor, que cercano está el día del Señor! ¡Viene como asolamiento del Todopoderoso!

7 T herefore all hands shall be faint, and every heart of man shall melt:

Por eso pierde su fuerza toda mano; por eso desfallece todo corazón.

8 A nd they shall be filled with terror; anguish and pain shall take hold of them; they shall be in pain as a woman that travails: they shall be amazed one at another; their faces shall be as flames.

Se llenan de terror; la angustia y el dolor los domina; tienen dolores como de parturienta; con el rostro encendido, unos a otros se miran con asombro.

9 B ehold, the day of the LORD comes, cruel and with wrath and fierce anger, to lay the earth desolate; and he shall destroy the sinners thereof out of it.

¡Viene ya el terrible día del Señor! ¡Día de ardiente ira e indignación, que hará de la tierra un páramo, y que raerá de ella a los pecadores!

10 F or this reason the stars of the heavens and the lights thereof shall not shine: the sun shall be darkened in his going forth, and the moon shall not give forth her light.

Ese día las estrellas y los luceros de los cielos no darán su luz; el sol se oscurecerá al amanecer, y la luna no dará su resplandor.

11 A nd I will visit evil upon the world and iniquity upon the wicked, and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease and will lay low the haughtiness of the strong.

Yo castigaré al mundo por su maldad, y a los impíos por su iniquidad; acabaré con la arrogancia de los soberbios y abatiré la altivez de los fuertes.

12 I will make the noble man more precious than fine gold and man more than the gold of Ophir.

Haré que los hombres sean más escasos que el fino oro de Ofir.

13 B ecause I will shake the heavens, and the earth shall be moved out of her place, in the indignation of the LORD of the hosts and in the day of his fierce anger.

Por la indignación del Señor de los ejércitos, en el día de su ardiente ira haré que se estremezcan los cielos, y que la tierra se mueva de su lugar.

14 A nd it shall be as the chased roe, and as a sheep without a shepherd: they shall each man look unto his own people, and flee each one unto his own land.

Cada uno mirará hacia su pueblo, como oveja sin pastor; cada uno huirá a su tierra, como gacela perseguida.

15 E very one that is found shall be thrust through, and every one that is joined unto them shall fall by the sword.

Todo el que sea hallado, caerá atravesado por una lanza; todo el que caiga preso, morirá a filo de espada.

16 T heir children shall also be dashed to pieces before their eyes; their houses shall be spoiled, and their wives ravished.

Ante sus propios ojos, sus niños serán estrellados contra el suelo, sus casas serán saqueadas, y sus mujeres serán violadas.

17 B ehold, I will stir up the Medes against them, which shall not look for silver, nor covet gold.

Voy a incitar contra ellos a los medos, para quienes el oro y la plata no es lo más importante.

18 T hey shall shoot at the young boys with bows, and they shall have no pity on the fruit of the womb; their eye shall not spare the sons.

Con sus flechas despedazarán a los niños, y de los hijos no tendrán compasión; ¡no perdonarán a nadie en quien pongan sus ojos!

19 ¶ And Babylon, the glory of kingdoms, the beauty of the Chaldees’ excellency, shall be as when God overthrew Sodom and Gomorrah.

El hermoso reino de Babilonia, joya de la grandeza caldea, vendrá a ser como Sodoma y Gomorra, ciudades a las que Dios destruyó.

20 I t shall never again be inhabited; neither shall it be dwelt in from generation to generation; neither shall the Arabian pitch tent there, neither shall the shepherds make their fold there.

Jamás volverá a ser habitado. Para siempre quedará deshabitado. Ningún nómada volverá a plantar allí su tienda, ni pastor alguno apacentará allí su rebaño.

21 B ut wild beasts of the desert shall lie there; and their houses shall be full of doleful creatures, and owls shall dwell there, and satyrs shall dance there.

Allí dormirán sólo las fieras del desierto, y sus casas se llenarán de chacales; allí sólo vivirán los avestruces, y retozarán las cabras salvajes.

22 A nd the wild beasts of the islands shall cry in their palaces, and dragons in their pleasant palaces; and her time is near to come, and her days shall not be prolonged.

En sus palacios y en sus casas veraniegas aullarán las hienas y los chacales. Ya se acerca su tiempo; sus días están contados.
