1 ¶ In the beginning of the reign of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah king of Judah came this word unto Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

2 T hus hath the LORD said unto me: Make thee bonds and yokes and put them upon thy neck;

«Jeremías, hazte unas coyundas y unos yugos, y póntelos sobre el cuello.

3 a nd thou shalt send them to the king of Edom and to the king of Moab and to the king of the Ammonites and to the king of Tyre and to the king of Zidon, by the hand of the ambassadors which come to Jerusalem unto Zedekiah king of Judah;

Luego, por medio de los mensajeros que vienen a Jerusalén para ver a Sedequías rey de Judá, se los enviarás a los reyes de Edom, Moab, Amón, Tiro y Sidón,

4 a nd thou shalt command them to say unto their masters, Thus hath the LORD of the hosts, the God of Israel said; Thus shall ye say unto your masters:

junto con el siguiente mensaje para sus respectivos señores: “Yo, el Señor de los ejércitos y Dios de Israel, les recuerdo esto:

5 I have made the earth, the man and the beast that are upon the face of the earth, by my great power and by my outstretched arm, and have given it unto whom was upright in my eyes.

Yo, con gran despliegue de poder y con mi brazo extendido, hice la tierra y al hombre, y también a los animales que están sobre la tierra, y la tierra se la di a quien mejor me pareció.

6 A nd now have I given all these lands into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my slave; and even the beasts of the field I have given him that they might serve him.

Ahora he puesto todos estos territorios en manos de mi siervo Nabucodonosor, rey de Babilonia, y hasta le he dado los animales salvajes, para que le sirvan.

7 A nd all the Gentiles shall serve him and his son and his son’s son, until the time of his own land shall come also; and many nations and great kings shall serve him.

Y todas las naciones le servirán, a él, y a su hijo y a su nieto, hasta que llegue el momento de que su propio país sea reducido a servidumbre por muchas naciones y grandes reyes.

8 A nd it shall come to pass, that the people and the kingdom which will not serve Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon and that will not put their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon, that people I will visit, saith the LORD, with the sword and with the famine and with the pestilence, until I have finished placing all of them under his hand.

Yo castigaré a la nación y al reino que no sirva a Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia, ni doblegue su cuello bajo su yugo; los castigaré con espada, y hambre y peste, hasta que a él mismo le permita destruirlos por completo. —Palabra del Señor.

9 T herefore do not hearken unto your prophets, nor to your diviners, nor to your dreams, nor to your sorcerers, nor to your enchanters, which speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon:

”Así que ustedes no presten oído a sus profetas, adivinos, intérpretes de sueños, agoreros y encantadores, que les dicen que no se rindan ante el rey de Babilonia.

10 F or they prophesy a lie unto you, to remove you far from your land; and that I should drive you out, and ye should perish.

Lo que ellos les dicen es mentira. Lo que buscan es que ustedes se alejen de su tierra, para que yo los expulse y ustedes mueran.

11 B ut the people that submit their neck under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him, those will I let remain still in their own land, said the LORD; and they shall till it and dwell therein.

Pero a la nación que doblegue su cuello al yugo del rey de Babilonia y le sirva, yo la dejaré en su tierra, para que la cultive y la habite.”» —Palabra del Señor.

12 ¶ I spoke also to Zedekiah king of Judah according to all these words, saying, Submit your necks under the yoke of the king of Babylon and serve him and his people and live.

Estas mismas palabras se las comuniqué a Sedequías rey de Judá. Le dije: «Dobleguen su cuello al yugo del rey de Babilonia, y sírvanle a él y a su pueblo. Así seguirán con vida.

13 W hy will ye die, thou and thy people, by the sword, by the famine, and by the pestilence, as the LORD has spoken unto the people that will not serve the king of Babylon?

¿Por qué han de morir tú y tu pueblo por la espada, o de hambre y de peste, como ha dicho el Señor que pasará con la nación que no sirva al rey de Babilonia?

14 T herefore do not hearken unto the words of the prophets that speak unto you, saying, Ye shall not serve the king of Babylon; for they prophesy a lie unto you.

No hagan caso de las palabras de los profetas que les dicen que no sirvan al rey de Babilonia. Lo que ellos les profetizan es mentira.

15 F or I have not sent them, saith the LORD, yet they prophesy a lie in my name; that I might drive you out and that ye might perish, ye, and the prophets that prophesy unto you.

El Señor no los ha enviado. Ellos profetizan falsamente en nombre del Señor, para que él los expulse de su tierra y ustedes mueran, junto con los profetas que les anuncian tales cosas.» —Palabra del Señor.

16 A lso I spoke to the priests and to all this people, saying, Thus hath the LORD said: Hearken not unto the words of your prophets that prophesy unto you, saying, Behold, the vessels of the LORD’s house shall now shortly be brought again from Babylon; for they prophesy a lie unto you.

También hablé con los sacerdotes y con todo este pueblo. Les dije: «Así ha dicho el Señor: “No hagan caso de las palabras de esos profetas que les dicen que muy pronto los utensilios de la casa del Señor serán traídos de Babilonia. Eso que les profetizan es una mentira.”»

17 H earken not unto them; serve the king of Babylon and live: why should this city be laid waste?

No les hagan caso. Sirvan al rey de Babilonia, y seguirán con vida. ¿Por qué tiene que ser destruida esta ciudad?

18 B ut if they are prophets, and if the word of the LORD is with them, let them pray now unto the LORD of the hosts that the vessels which are left in the house of the LORD and in the house of the king of Judah and at Jerusalem, not go to Babylon.

Si en verdad ellos son profetas, y si la palabra del Señor los respalda, pídanle ahora al Señor de los ejércitos que los utensilios que han quedado en la casa del Señor, y en el palacio del rey de Judá y en Jerusalén, no sean llevados a Babilonia.

19 F or thus hath the LORD of the hosts said concerning the pillars, and concerning the sea, and concerning the bases, and concerning the residue of the vessels that remain in this city,

Porque el Señor de los ejércitos ha hablado acerca de las columnas, del estanque, de las basas y del resto de los utensilios que quedan en esta ciudad

20 w hich Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon did not take, when he carried away captive Jeconiah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah from Jerusalem to Babylon, and all the nobles of Judah and Jerusalem;

y que no quitó Nabucodonosor rey de Babilonia cuando se llevó de Jerusalén a Babilonia a Jeconías hijo de Joacín, rey de Judá, y a todos los nobles de Judá y de Jerusalén.

21 y ea, thus hath the LORD of the hosts the God of Israel said concerning the vessels that remained in the house of the LORD and in the house of the king of Judah and in Jerusalem;

Esto es lo que dijo el Señor de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, acerca de los utensilios que quedaron en su templo, y en el palacio del rey de Judá y en Jerusalén:

22 t hey shall be carried to Babylon, and there they shall be until the day that I visit them, said the LORD; and afterwards I will bring them up and restore them to this place.

«Serán llevados a Babilonia, y allí se quedarán hasta el día en que yo los visite. Después de eso volveré a traerlos y los restauraré a este lugar.» —Palabra del Señor.
