1 ¶ And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying:

La palabra del Señor vino a mí, y me dijo:

2 S on of man, What is the vine tree more than any tree? What is the branch among the trees of the forest?

«Hijo de hombre, ¿en qué es mejor la leña de la vid, comparada con otra clase de madera? ¿Qué es el sarmiento, comparado con los árboles del bosque?

3 S hall wood be taken from it to do a work? Will men take a peg from it to hang any vessel thereon?

¿Acaso sirve su madera para hacer alguna cosa? ¿Se usa su madera para colgar algo en ella?

4 B ehold, it is cast into the fire for fuel; the fire devours both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned. Is it meet for any work?

¡Al contrario! ¡Se echa en el fuego para que arda! Con sus dos extremos consumidos por el fuego, y con la parte de en medio quemada, ¿puede servir para algo?

5 B ehold, when it was whole, it was meet for no work; how much less afterward shall it be meet for any work when the fire has devoured it, and it is burned?

Si cuando estaba entera no servía para nada, ¡mucho menos servirá para algo después de que el fuego la haya quemado por completo! ¿Para qué podría servir?»

6 T herefore thus hath the Lord GOD said: As the vine tree among the trees of the forest which I have given to the fire for fuel, so I have given over the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Por lo tanto, así ha dicho Dios el Señor: «Voy a hacer con los habitantes de Jerusalén lo mismo que hice con la leña de la vid, a la que aparté de los árboles del bosque y la eché al fuego para que se consumiera.

7 A nd I will set my face against them; they came out of one fire, and another fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am the LORD when I set my face against them.

Voy a encararlos. Y aunque se escaparon del fuego, al final el fuego los consumirá. Cuando me enfrente a ellos, sabrán que yo soy el Señor.

8 A nd I will make the land desolate because they have completely rebelled, said the Lord GOD.

Por los pecados que cometieron, convertiré esta tierra en un lugar desolado.» Palabra de Dios el Señor.
