1 ¶ Search yourselves and one another, O unfriendly people;

Tú, nación desvergonzada, ponte a pensar,

2 b efore the decree is executed, before the day passes as the chaff, before the fierce anger of the LORD comes upon you, before the day of the LORD’s anger comes upon you.

antes de que entre en vigor el decreto, y el día se pase como el polvo; antes de que caiga sobre ustedes el furor de la ira del Señor; ¡antes de que les sobrevenga el día de la ira del Señor!

3 S eek ye the LORD, all ye humble of the earth, who have wrought his judgment; seek righteousness, seek humility: it may be ye shall be kept in the day of the LORD’s anger.

Ustedes, los humildes de la tierra, los que practican la justicia del Señor, ¡búsquenlo! ¡Busquen al Señor y su justicia! ¡Practiquen la mansedumbre! Tal vez el Señor los proteja en el día de su enojo.

4 ¶ For Gaza shall be forsaken, and Ashkelon a desolation: they shall spoil Ashdod at the noon day, and Ekron shall be rooted up.

Porque Gaza quedará desamparada, y Ascalón será destruida; Asdod será saqueada en pleno día, y Ecrón será arrancada de raíz.

5 W oe unto the inhabitants of the sea coast, the people of the Cherethites! the word of the LORD is against you; O Canaan, the land of the Palestinians, I will cause thee to be destroyed until there shall be no inhabitant left.

¡Ay de ustedes, cretenses, que habitan en las costas del mar! La palabra del Señor va dirigida contra ti, Canaán, tierra de los filisteos! Yo haré que te destruyan hasta no dejar un solo habitante.

6 A nd the sea coast shall be for dwellings and cottages for pastors, and sheepfolds.

La costa del mar quedará convertida en praderas de pastoreo y en corrales de ovejas.

7 A nd the coast shall be for the remnant of the house of Judah; they shall feed thereupon: in the houses of Ashkelon they shall sleep for the night; for the LORD their God shall visit them and return their captives.

Allí cuidarán sus rebaños los sobrevivientes de la casa de Judá, y pasarán la noche en las casas de Ascalón, porque el Señor su Dios los visitará y los rescatará de su cautiverio.

8 ¶ I have heard the reproaches of Moab, and the revilings of the sons of Ammon, by which they have dishonoured my people and magnified themselves over their border.

«Han llegado a mis oídos las ofensas de Moab y los insultos con que los hijos de Amón han deshonrado a mi pueblo. Sé que se han engrandecido sobre su territorio.

9 T herefore as I live, said the LORD of the hosts, the God of Israel, Surely Moab shall be as Sodom and the sons of Ammon as Gomorrah, even a field of nettles and saltpits and a perpetual desolation; the remnant of my people shall spoil them, and the remnant of my Gentiles shall inherit them.

Por lo tanto, vivo yo, que a Moab le pasará lo que a Sodoma, y a los hijos de Amón lo que a Gomorra. Será un campo de ortigas y de minas de sal, ¡de perenne destrucción! El remanente de mi pueblo los saqueará, y tomará posesión de sus territorios.» —Palabra del Señor de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel.

10 T his shall come upon them for their pride because they have reproached and magnified themselves against the people of the LORD of the hosts.

Esto les sobrevendrá por causa de su soberbia, por insultar y engrandecerse en contra del pueblo del Señor de los ejércitos.

11 T he LORD shall be terrible against them for he will weaken all the gods of the earth; and each one from his place shall worship him, even all the isles of the Gentiles.

Las acciones del Señor contra ellos serán terribles, porque destruirá a todos los dioses de la tierra, y todas las naciones se inclinarán ante él, allí donde se encuentren.

12 ¶ Ye Ethiopians also, ye shall be slain by my sword.

«Ustedes, los etíopes, también sufrirán la muerte ante mi espada.»

13 A nd he will stretch out his hand over the north wind and destroy Assyria and will make Nineveh a desolation and dry like a wilderness.

El Señor extenderá su mano contra el norte y destruirá a Asiria, y convertirá a Nínive en un montón de ruinas y en árido desierto.

14 A nd flocks shall lie down in the midst of her, all the beasts of the Gentiles; both the cormorant and the bittern shall lodge in her thresholds; their voice shall sing in the windows; desolation shall be in the gates: for her cedar work shall be uncovered.

Los rebaños y los ganados harán de ella su aprisco, y en sus dinteles dormirán los pelícanos, los erizos y todas las bestias del campo. Se oirán trinos en las ventanas, pero en las puertas habrá desolación porque sus paneles de cedro quedarán al descubierto.

15 T his is the rejoicing city that dwelt carelessly, that said in her heart, I am, and there is none beside me: how is she become a desolation, a place for beasts to lie down in! anyone that passes by her shall hiss and wag his hand.

¡Así quedará la ciudad alegre, que tan confiada vivía! ¡Así quedará la ciudad que en su corazón decía: «¡Yo soy única! ¡No hay nadie como yo!» Y, sin embargo, quedará asolada; ¡quedará convertida en una guarida de fieras! Todos los que pasen cerca de ella, se burlarán y le harán señas con la mano.
