1 ¶ The word that came to Jeremiah from the LORD, saying,

La palabra del Señor vino a Jeremías, y le dijo:

2 T hus hath the LORD God of Israel spoken, saying, Write thee all the words that I have spoken unto thee in a book.

«Así ha dicho el Señor y Dios de Israel: “Escribe en un rollo de cuero cada una de las palabras que te he dicho.

3 F or, Behold, the days come, said the LORD, that I will turn the captivity of my people Israel and Judah, said the LORD, and I will cause them to return to the land that I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.

Porque se acerca el día en que haré volver del exilio a mi pueblo, Israel y Judá. Los traeré a la tierra que le entregué a sus padres, y tomarán posesión de ella.”» —Palabra del Señor.

4 A nd these are the words that the LORD spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah.

El Señor habló también acerca de Israel y de Judá. Éstas fueron sus palabras:

5 F or thus hath the LORD said; We have heard a voice of trembling, of terror, and not of peace.

«Así ha dicho el Señor: “Se oye un grito de terror; un grito de miedo y no de paz.

6 A sk now, and see whether the man doth travail with child? for I have seen that every man has his hands on his loins, as a woman in travail; and all faces have turned pale.

Vamos a ver: ¿Desde cuando los hombres dan a luz? ¿Cómo es que a todos ellos los veo con los brazos en jarras, como mujeres parturientas? ¿Cómo es que todos ellos tienen pálido el rostro?

7 A las! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble; but he shall be saved out of it.

¡Ah, qué terrible será ese día! ¡Terrible como ninguno otro! Serán tiempos de angustia para los de Jacob, pero lograrán sobrevivir!”

8 F or it shall come to pass in that day, saith the LORD of the hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck, and will burst thy bonds, and strangers shall no longer place him in servitude,

»En aquel día, yo haré pedazos el yugo que pesa sobre su cuello, y reventaré sus coyundas. Ningún extranjero volverá a esclavizarlos. —Palabra del Señor de los ejércitos.

9 b ut they shall serve the LORD their God, and David their king, whom I will raise up unto them.

»Sólo servirán al Señor su Dios, a David su rey, y a quien yo haga reinar en su lugar.

10 ¶ Therefore fear thou not, O my slave Jacob, saith the LORD; neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I am he that saves thee from afar, and thy seed from the land of their captivity; and Jacob shall turn, and shall rest, and be quiet, and there shall be no one left to scatter him.

»Así que no tengas miedo, mi querido siervo Jacob. No tengas ningún temor, Israel, porque yo te salvaré, a ti y a tu descendencia, de esa tierra lejana donde ahora estás cautivo. Tú, Jacob, volverás de allá, y vivirás tranquilo y en paz, sin que nadie te infunda terror. —Palabra del Señor.

11 F or I shall be with thee, saith the LORD, to save thee; and I shall make a full end in all Gentiles among whom I scattered thee, yet I will not make a full end of thee: but I will chastise thee with judgment and will not cut thee off altogether.

»Yo estoy contigo, para salvarte Destruiré a todas las naciones entre las cuales te esparcí, pero a ti no te destruiré. Por supuesto, no dejaré de castigarte, pero mi castigo será lo justo. —Palabra del Señor.

12 F or thus hath the LORD said, Thy breach is incurable, and thy sore is grievous.

»Así ha dicho el Señor: “Tu fractura es incurable, y muy dolorosa tu llaga.

13 T here is no one to judge thy cause unto health; there is no cure, nor are there any medicines for thee.

No hay quien defienda tu caso. Ningún remedio sirve para sanar tu herida.

14 A ll thy lovers have forgotten thee; they do not seek thee; for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with the whip of a cruel one, for the multitude of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased.

Todos tus amantes te han olvidado. Ya no te buscan. Y es que yo te herí como se hiere a un enemigo. Por causa de tu mucha maldad y de tus muchos pecados te azoté como a un cruel adversario.

15 W hy dost thou cry out for thine affliction? thy sorrow is incurable for the greatness of thine iniquity; because thy sins were increased, I have done these things unto thee.

¿Para qué gritar por causa de tu fractura? Tu dolor es incurable. Y te he tratado así por causa de tu mucha maldad y de tus muchos pecados.

16 T herefore all those that devour thee shall be devoured; and all those that afflict thee, every one of them, shall go into captivity; and those that trampled upon thee shall be trodden down, and all that prey upon thee I will give for a prey.

Pero todos los que te devoran serán devorados; todos tus adversarios serán llevados al cautiverio. Los que te pisotearon serán pisoteados, y los que te saquearon serán saqueados.

17 F or I will cause healing to come for thee, and I will heal thee of thy wounds, said the LORD; because they called thee an Outcast, saying, This is Zion, whom no man seeks after.

Aunque te han llamado ‘la despreciada’, y aunque dicen: ‘Ésta es Sión, de la que nadie se acuerda’, yo te devolveré la salud y sanaré tus heridas.” —Palabra del Señor.

18 ¶ Thus hath the LORD said; Behold, I will turn the captivity of Jacob’s tents and have mercy on his dwelling places and the city shall be built upon her own hill, and the temple according to her judgment shall stand.

»Así ha dicho el Señor: “Fíjate bien: Yo haré que cambie la suerte de las tiendas de Jacob. Tendré misericordia de sus campamentos; la ciudad será edificada sobre su colina, y el templo será restaurado.

19 A nd out of them shall proceed thanksgiving and the voice of people that live in joy: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be decreased; I will multiply them, and they shall not be cut down.

De en medio de ellos saldrán alabanzas, voces de una nación en pleno regocijo. Yo haré que, lejos de disminuir, el número de ellos se multiplique. Yo los multiplicaré, y aumentaré su número.

20 T heir sons shall also be as at first, and their congregation shall be confirmed before me, and I will visit all their oppressors.

Sus hijos volverán a ser lo que antes fueron, y su congregación será confirmada ante mí. ¡Yo castigaré a todos sus opresores!

21 A nd of him shall be their Rock, and from the midst of him shall their Governor come forth; and I will cause him to come near, and he shall draw near unto me: for who is this that softened his heart to approach unto me? said the LORD.

De entre ellos surgirá su príncipe, que será quien los gobierne. Yo le permitiré acercarse a mí, y él se acercará; pues ¿de qué otra manera podría alguien atreverse a acercarse a mí?” —Palabra del Señor.

22 A nd ye shall be my people, and I will be your God.

»Y ustedes serán mi pueblo, y yo seré su Dios.»

23 B ehold, the whirlwind of the LORD goes forth with fury, the whirlwind which is preparing itself; it shall remain upon the head of the wicked.

La tempestad del Señor se desata con furor; la tempestad que se está gestando caerá sobre la cabeza de los impíos.

24 T he fierce anger of the LORD shall not return until he has done it and until he has performed the intents of his heart; in the end of the days ye shall understand this.

El ardor de la ira del Señor no se calmará hasta que haya realizado los designios de su corazón. Pero esto lo entenderán ustedes cuando ya sea demasiado tarde.
