1 ¶ And God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there and make there an altar unto God, who appeared unto thee when thou didst flee from the face of Esau, thy brother.

Dios le dijo a Jacob: «Prepárate para ir a Betel y quedarte allí. En Betel harás un altar al Dios que se te apareció cuando huías de tu hermano Esaú.»

2 T hen Jacob said unto his household and to all that were with him, Put away the strange gods that are among you and be clean and change your garments:

Entonces Jacob dijo a su familia y a todos los que estaban con él: «Desháganse de los dioses ajenos que hay entre ustedes; purifíquense y cámbiense de ropa,

3 A nd let us arise and go up to Bethel and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress, and has been with me in the way which I have gone.

y preparémonos para ir a Betel. Allí haré un altar al Dios que me respondió en el día de mi angustia, y que me ha acompañado por dondequiera que he andado.»

4 S o they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their power and all their earrings which were in their ears, and Jacob hid them under the oak which was by Shechem.

Ellos le entregaron a Jacob todos los dioses ajenos que había en su poder, y los zarcillos que llevaban en las orejas; y Jacob los enterró bajo la encina que estaba cerca de Siquén.

5 A nd they journeyed, and the terror of God was upon the cities that were round about them, and they did not pursue after the sons of Jacob.

Cuando salieron, el terror de Dios cayó sobre las ciudades de los alrededores, y nadie persiguió a los hijos de Jacob.

6 ¶ And Jacob came to Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, that is, Bethel, he and all the people that were with him.

Jacob y todo el pueblo que estaba con él llegaron a Luz (es decir, Betel), ciudad que está en la tierra de Canaán,

7 A nd there he built an altar and called the place Elbethel because there God had appeared unto him when he fled from the face of his brother.

y Jacob edificó un altar, y a ese lugar lo llamó El Betel, porque allí se le había aparecido Dios cuando huía de su hermano.

8 T hen Deborah, Rebekah’s nurse, died, and she was buried beneath Bethel under an oak, and the name of it was called Allonbachuth.

Allí murió Débora, nodriza de Rebeca, y fue sepultada al pie de Betel, debajo de la encina, la cual fue llamada Alón Bacut.

9 A nd God appeared unto Jacob again when he came out of Padanaram and blessed him.

Una vez más, Dios se le apareció a Jacob cuando volvió de Padán Aram, y lo bendijo.

10 A nd God said unto him, Thy name is Jacob; thy name shall not be called any more Jacob, but Israel shall be thy name, and he called his name Israel.

Le dijo Dios: «Tu nombre es Jacob. Pero ya no te llamarás Jacob; ahora tu nombre será Israel.» Y ése fue su nombre.

11 A nd God said unto him, I am God Almighty; be fruitful and multiply, a nation and a company of nations (Gentiles) shall come out of thee, and kings shall come out of thy loins;

Y Dios también le dijo: «Yo soy el Dios omnipotente. Reprodúcete y multiplícate. De ti saldrá una nación, y reyes, y un conjunto de naciones.

12 a nd the land which I have given to Abraham and to Isaac, to thee will I give it and to thy seed after thee will I give the land.

La tierra que les he dado a Abrahán y a Isaac, te la daré a ti, y a tu descendencia después de ti.»

13 A nd God went up from him in the place where he talked with him.

Después Dios se apartó de Jacob y del lugar donde había hablado con él.

14 A nd Jacob set up a pillar in the place where he talked with him, even a pillar of stone; and he poured a drink offering upon it, and he poured oil upon it.

En ese lugar Jacob levantó una señal de piedra, y como libación derramó aceite sobre ella.

15 A nd Jacob called the name of the place where God spoke with him, Bethel.

Al lugar donde Dios había hablado con él, Jacob le puso por nombre Betel. Muerte de Raquel

16 ¶ And they journeyed from Bethel, and there was but a little way to come to Ephrath when Rachel travailed, and she had hard labour.

Después partieron de Betel. Pero aún estaban como a media legua de distancia de Efrata, cuando Raquel dio a luz, y tuvo un parto difícil.

17 A nd it came to pass when she was in hard labour, that the midwife said unto her, Fear not; thou shalt have this son also.

Entre las dificultades de su parto, la partera le dijo: «No tengas miedo, que también tendrás este hijo.»

18 A nd it came to pass as her soul was departing, (for she died) that she called his name Benoni, but his father called him Benjamin.

Cuando Raquel exhalaba el último suspiro (pues murió), le puso por nombre Benoní; pero su padre lo llamó Benjamín.

19 T hus Rachel died and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Bethlehem.

Y Raquel murió y fue sepultada en el camino de Efrata, que también es Belén.

20 A nd Jacob set a pillar upon her grave; that is the pillar of Rachel’s grave unto this day.

Sobre su sepultura, Jacob levantó un pilar, que hasta el día de hoy es la señal de la sepultura de Raquel.

21 ¶ And Israel journeyed and spread his tent beyond the tower of Edar.

Y partió Israel de allí, y plantó su tienda más allá de Migdal Edar.

22 A nd it came to pass when Israel dwelt in that land, that Reuben went and lay with Bilhah, his father’s concubine, and Israel heard of it. Now the sons of Jacob were twelve:

Mientras Israel vivía en aquella tierra, Rubén fue y durmió con Bilá, la concubina de su padre. Pero esto llegó a oídos de Israel. Los hijos de Jacob Los hijos de Israel fueron doce:

23 T he sons of Leah: Reuben, Jacob’s firstborn, Simeon, Levi, Judah, Issachar, and Zebulun.

los hijos de Lea: Rubén, el primogénito de Jacob; Simeón, Leví, Judá, Isacar y Zabulón.

24 T he sons of Rachel: Joseph and Benjamin.

Los hijos de Raquel: José y Benjamín.

25 A nd the sons of Bilhah, Rachel’s handmaid: Dan and Naphtali.

Los hijos de Bilá, sierva de Raquel: Dan y Neftalí.

26 A nd the sons of Zilpah, Leah’s handmaid: Gad and Asher. These are the sons of Jacob, who were born to him in Padanaram.

Los hijos de Zilpa, sierva de Lea: Gad y Aser. Éstos fueron los hijos que le nacieron a Jacob en Padán Aram. Muerte de Isaac

27 A nd Jacob came unto Isaac, his father, unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.

Jacob fue a visitar a Isaac, su padre, en Mamre, es decir, la ciudad de Arba, que es Hebrón, donde habitaron Abrahán e Isaac.

28 A nd the days of Isaac were one hundred and eighty years.

Isaac llegó a vivir ciento ochenta años,

29 A nd Isaac expired and died and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days, and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.

y exhaló el espíritu siendo anciano y lleno de días. Murió y fue reunido con su pueblo, y sus hijos Esaú y Jacob lo sepultaron.
