1 ¶ Now after the death of Moses, the slave of the LORD, it came to pass that the LORD spoke unto Joshua, the son of Nun, Moses’ minister, saying,

Después de la muerte de Moisés, el siervo del Señor, habló el Señor con Josué hijo de Nun, que era siervo de Moisés, y le dijo:

2 M oses, my slave, is dead; now, therefore, arise, pass this Jordan, thou and all this people, unto the land which I give to the sons of Israel.

«Moisés, que fue mi siervo, ha muerto. De ahora en adelante tú estarás al frente del pueblo. Crucen ahora juntos el Jordán, este pueblo y tú, y vayan a la tierra que voy a darles a los hijos de Israel.

3 E very place that the sole of your foot shall tread upon, that have I given unto you, as I said unto Moses.

Tal y como se lo prometí a Moisés, voy a darles cada lugar donde pongan los pies.

4 F rom the wilderness and this Lebanon even unto the great river, the river Euphrates, all the land of the Hittites and unto the great sea toward the going down of the sun shall be your borders.

Su territorio se extenderá desde el desierto y el Líbano, hasta el gran río Éufrates, y toda la tierra de los hititas, hasta el mar grande, donde se pone el sol.

5 N o one shall be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life; as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee; I will not fail thee nor forsake thee.

Mientras vivas, nadie podrá hacerte frente, porque yo estaré contigo como antes estuve con Moisés. No te dejaré, ni te desampararé.

6 B e strong and of a good courage; for thou shalt cause this people to inherit the land as an inheritance, which I swore unto their fathers to give them.

Esfuérzate y sé valiente, porque tú serás quien reparta a este pueblo, como herencia, la tierra que juré a sus padres que les daría.

7 O nly be thou strong and very courageous that thou mayest keep and do according to all the law, which Moses my slave commanded thee; turn not from it to the right hand or to the left that thou may be prospered in all the things that thou doest.

Pero tienes qué esforzarte y ser muy valiente. Pon mucho cuidado y actúa de acuerdo con las leyes que te dio mi siervo Moisés. Nunca te apartes de ellas, ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda, y así tendrás éxito en todo lo que emprendas.

8 T his book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth, but thou shalt meditate therein day and night that thou may keep and do according to all that is written therein; for then thou shalt make thy way to prosper, and then thou shalt understand everything.

Procura que nunca se aparte de tus labios este libro de la ley. Medita en él de día y de noche, para que actúes de acuerdo con todo lo que está escrito en él. Así harás que prospere tu camino, y todo te saldrá bien.

9 S ee that I command thee to be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed; for I, the LORD thy God, am with thee wherever thou goest.

Escucha lo que te mando: Esfuérzate y sé valiente. No temas ni desmayes, que yo soy el Señor tu Dios, y estaré contigo por dondequiera que vayas.»

10 ¶ Then Joshua commanded the officers of the people, saying,

Entonces Josué les ordenó a los oficiales del pueblo:

11 P ass through the camp and command the people, saying, Prepare food; for within three days ye shall pass this Jordan, to enter in to inherit the land, which the LORD your God gives you to inherit.

«Recorran todo el campamento y díganle al pueblo que prepare comida, porque dentro de tres días ellos cruzarán el Jordán para tomar la tierra que el Señor nuestro Dios va a darles.»

12 A lso to the Reubenites and to the Gadites and to half the tribe of Manasseh, Joshua spoke, saying,

Josué habló también con los rubenitas y los gaditas, y con la media tribu de Manasés, y les dijo:

13 R emember the word which Moses, the slave of the LORD, commanded you, saying, The LORD your God has given you rest and has given you this land.

«Acuérdense de que Moisés, el siervo del Señor, les dijo que el Señor es también el Dios de ustedes, y que les dará reposo en esta tierra.

14 Y our wives, your little ones, and your beasts shall remain in the land which Moses gave you on this side of the Jordan; but ye, all the mighty men of valour, shall pass before your brethren armed and help them

En la tierra que Moisés les dio a ustedes de este lado del Jordán se quedarán las mujeres, los niños y los ganados; pero todos los hombres valientes y fuertes que haya entre ustedes tomarán las armas y marcharán al frente de sus hermanos, para ayudarlos

15 u ntil the LORD has given your brethren rest, as he has given you and they also inherit the land which the LORD your God gives them; then ye shall return unto the land of your inheritance and inherit it, which Moses the LORD’s slave has given you on this side of the Jordan toward the sunrising.

hasta que el Señor les haya dado reposo a sus hermanos y también ellos hayan tomado posesión de la tierra que el Señor su Dios va a darles. Después de eso, ustedes podrán regresar a la tierra que han heredado en este lado del Jordán, la que Moisés, el siervo del Señor, les ha dado del lado donde nace el sol. Entonces podrán tomar posesión de ella.»

16 ¶ Then they answered Joshua, saying, All that thou hast commanded us we will do, and wherever thou dost send us, we will go.

Ellos le respondieron a Josué: «Haremos todo lo que nos has mandado, e iremos a dondequiera que nos digas.

17 A ccording as we hearkened unto Moses in all things, so will we hearken unto thee; only let the LORD thy God be with thee, as he was with Moses.

Así como obedecimos a Moisés en todo, también te obedeceremos a ti. Sólo esperamos que el Señor nuestro Dios esté contigo como estuvo con Moisés.

18 W hoever rebels against thy commandment and will not hearken unto thy words in all that thou doest command him, let him die; only be strong and of a good courage.

Todo el que sea rebelde y no obedezca tus órdenes, será condenado a muerte. Pero tú, tienes que esforzarte y ser valiente.»
