1 ¶ Hear ye now what the LORD saith: Arise, contend thou with the mountains, and let the hills hear thy voice.

Escuchen ahora lo que dice el Señor: «¡Levántate y contiende contra los montes! ¡Que oigan tu voz las colinas!»

2 H ear ye, O mountains, the LORD’s controversy, and ye strong foundations of the earth; for the LORD has a controversy with his people, and he will reprove Israel.

Ustedes los montes, y ustedes, los sólidos cimientos de la tierra, escuchen la querella del Señor. Porque el Señor tiene una querella contra su pueblo, y va a altercar contra Israel:

3 O my people, what have I done unto thee? and in what have I wearied thee? testify against me.

«Pueblo mío, ¿qué te he hecho? ¿En qué te he molestado? ¡Respóndeme!

4 F or I brought thee up out of the land of Egypt and ransomed thee out of the house of slaves; and I sent before thee Moses, Aaron, and Miriam.

Es un hecho que yo te saqué de la tierra de Egipto; que te libré de la casa de servidumbre, y que delante de ti envié a Moisés, a Aarón y a María.

5 O my people, remember now what Balak king of Moab consulted and what Balaam the son of Beor answered him from Shittim unto Gilgal: that ye may know the righteousness of the LORD.

Acuérdate ahora, pueblo mío, de los planes que urdía Balac, rey de Moab, y de cómo respondió Balaam hijo de Beor. Yo los traje desde Sitín hasta Gilgal, para que reconozcan cuántas veces yo, el Señor, los he salvado.» Lo que pide el Señor

6 ¶ With what shall I present myself before the LORD, and how shall I worship the high God? shall I come before him with burnt offerings, with calves of a year old?

Tú, Israel, preguntas: «¿Con qué me presentaré ante el Señor? ¿Cómo adoraré al Dios Altísimo? ¿Debo presentarme ante él con holocaustos, o con becerros de un año?

7 W ill the LORD be pleased with thousands of rams, or with ten thousands of rivers of oil? shall I give my firstborn for my rebellion, the fruit of my bowels for the sin of my soul?

¿Le agradará al Señor recibir millares de carneros, o diez mil ríos de aceite? ¿Debo darle mi primogénito a cambio de mi rebelión? ¿Le daré el fruto de mis entrañas por los pecados que he cometido?»

8 H e has declared unto thee, O man, what is good and what the LORD requires of thee: only to do right judgment, and to love mercy, and to humble thyself to walk with thy God.

¡Hombre! El Señor te ha dado a conocer lo que es bueno, y lo que él espera de ti, y que no es otra cosa que hacer justicia, amar la misericordia, y humillarte ante tu Dios.

9 ¶ The LORD’s voice cries out unto the city, and the man of wisdom shall see thy name: hear ye the rod, and he who has established it.

La voz del Señor clama a la ciudad. Es de sabios temer a su nombre. Presten ustedes atención al castigo y a quien lo establece:

10 A re there yet the treasures of wickedness in the house of the wicked and the scant measure that is abominable?

«El impío aún tiene en su casa riquezas mal habidas, y esas odiosas medidas falsas.

11 C an I be pure with false balances and with a bag of deceitful weights?

¿Y voy a tener por inocente al que tiene balanzas falsas y pesas engañosas?

12 W ith which their rich men are full of violence, and the inhabitants thereof have spoken lies, and their tongue is deceitful in their mouth.

Tu gente rica, Jerusalén, se ha saturado de rapiña; tus habitantes mienten; su lengua y sus labios son engañosos.

13 T herefore I have also made thee weak in smiting thee, in making thee desolate because of thy sins.

Por eso yo también te herí, te debilité, te asolé por tus pecados.

14 T hou shalt eat, but not be satisfied; and thy casting down shall be in the midst of thee; and thou shalt take, but shalt not be saved; and that which thou dost save, I will give it up to the sword.

Por eso comerás, y no te saciarás, y en tus calles habrá una profunda tristeza. Cosecharás, pero no almacenarás, y lo que almacenes lo entregaré como botín de guerra.

15 T hou shalt sow, but thou shalt not reap; thou shalt tread the olives, but thou shalt not anoint thee with the oil; and sweet wine, but shalt not drink the wine.

Sembrarás, pero no cosecharás; pisarás aceitunas, pero no te ungirás con ese aceite; exprimirás las uvas, pero no beberás el vino.

16 F or the statutes of Omri have been kept and all the works of the house of Ahab, and ye have walked in their counsels that I should make thee a desolation, and the inhabitants thereof a hissing: therefore ye shall bear the reproach of my people.

Y es que tú has obedecido los mandamientos de Omri y todas las acciones de la casa de Ajab; has seguido los consejos de ellos. Por eso voy a castigarte y a poner en vergüenza a tus habitantes. Por lo tanto, tendrán que cargar con el oprobio de mi pueblo.»
