1 ¶ And he heard the words of the sons of Laban, saying, Jacob has taken away all that was our father’s; and of that which was our father’s, he has gotten all this glory.

Pero Jacob se enteraba de las habladurías de los hijos de Labán, pues decían: «Jacob se ha quedado con todo lo que era de nuestro padre. Toda su riqueza la obtuvo de lo que era de nuestro padre.»

2 A nd Jacob beheld the countenance of Laban, and, behold, it was not toward him as before.

Además, Jacob miraba el semblante de Labán, y podía ver que ya no lo trataba como antes.

3 A lso the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy fathers and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.

Entonces el Señor le dijo a Jacob: «Regresa a la tierra de tus padres, con tus parientes, que yo estaré contigo.»

4 A nd Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his sheep

Jacob mandó llamar a Raquel y a Lea al campo donde estaban sus ovejas,

5 a nd said unto them, I see your father’s countenance, that it is not toward me as before; but the God of my father has been with me.

y les dijo: «Me doy cuenta de que el padre de ustedes ya no me trata como antes. Pero el Dios de mi padre está conmigo.

6 A nd ye know that with all my strength I have served your father.

Ustedes saben que yo he servido a su padre con todas mis fuerzas,

7 A nd your father has deceived me and changed my wages ten times, but God did not allow him to hurt me.

y que su padre me ha engañado, pues varias veces me ha cambiado la paga. Pero Dios no le ha permitido hacerme daño.

8 I f he said thus, The speckled shall be thy wages; then all the sheep bore speckled; and if he said thus, The ringstraked shall be thy hire; then all the sheep bore ringstraked.

Si él decía: “Te voy a pagar con los pintados”, entonces todas las ovejas parían corderos pintados; y si decía: “Te voy a pagar con los listados”, entonces todas las ovejas parían corderos listados.

9 T hus God has taken away the livestock of your father and given them to me.

Así Dios le quitó al padre de ustedes el ganado, y me lo dio a mí.

10 A nd it came to pass at the time that the sheep conceived, that I lifted up my eyes and saw in dreams, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the females were ringstraked, speckled, and grisled.

Y resulta que, cuando las ovejas estaban en celo, yo levanté la vista, y en sueños vi que los machos que cubrían a las hembras eran listados, pintados y abigarrados.

11 A nd the angel of God spoke unto me in dreams, saying, Jacob: And I said, Here am I.

12 A nd he said, Lift up now thine eyes and see, all the rams which leap upon the sheep are ringstraked, speckled, and grisled; for I have seen all that Laban has done unto thee.

Y me dijo: “Levanta ahora los ojos, y verás que todos los machos que cubren a las hembras son listados, pintados y abigarrados. Yo he visto todo lo que Labán te ha hecho.

13 I am the God of Bethel, where thou didst anoint the pillar and where thou didst vow a vow unto me. Now arise, go out from this land and return unto the land of thy nature.

Yo soy el Dios de Betel, donde tú ungiste la piedra, y donde me hiciste un voto. Levántate ahora y sal de esta tierra, y regresa a tu tierra natal.”»

14 A nd Rachel and Leah answered and said unto him, Is there yet any portion or inheritance for us in our father’s house?

Raquel y Lea respondieron: «¿Acaso tenemos todavía nosotras alguna porción o herencia en la casa de nuestro padre?

15 A re we not counted of him strangers? For he has sold us and has even devoured all our price.

¿Acaso no nos considera unas extrañas, y hasta nos vendió y se ha comido por completo nuestro precio?

16 F or all the riches which God has taken from our father, is ours and our son’s; now then, whatever God has said unto thee, do.

La verdad es que todas las riquezas que Dios le ha quitado a nuestro padre, ¡son de nosotras y de nuestros hijos! Así que, haz todo lo que Dios te ha dicho.» Jacob huye de Labán

17 ¶ Then Jacob rose up and set his sons and his wives upon the camels;

Entonces Jacob se preparó y sentó a sus hijos y sus mujeres sobre los camellos,

18 a nd he carried away all his livestock and all his goods which he had gotten, the livestock of his getting, which he had gotten in Padanaram, to return unto Isaac his father in the land of Canaan.

luego puso en marcha todo su ganado, y todo el ganado que había adquirido, que era su ganancia de Padán Aram, y se dispuso a volver a Isaac, su padre, en la tierra de Canaán.

19 A nd Laban had gone to shear his sheep; and Rachel stole the idols of her father.

Como Labán había ido a trasquilar sus ovejas, Raquel hurtó los ídolos de su padre.

20 A nd Jacob stole away the heart of Laban the Aramean, in that he did not tell him that he fled.

Jacob, por su parte, engañó a Labán el arameo al no hacerle saber que iba a fugarse.

21 S o he fled with all that he had; and he rose up and passed the river and set his face toward Mount Gilead.

Y se fugó, llevándose todo lo que tenía. Se dispuso a cruzar el Éufrates, y se enfiló hacia el monte de Galaad.

22 A nd it was told Laban on the third day that Jacob had fled.

Al tercer día fueron a decirle a Labán que Jacob se había fugado.

23 T hen he took his brethren with him and pursued after him seven days’ journey; and they overtook him in Mount Gilead.

Entonces Labán se hizo acompañar de sus parientes, y se fue tras Jacob. Después de siete días de camino, lo alcanzó en el monte de Galaad.

24 A nd God came to Laban the Aramean in dreams by night, and said unto him, Take heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

Pero esa noche Dios se le apareció en un sueño a Labán el arameo, y le dijo: «Mucho cuidado con comenzar a hablarle a Jacob bien, y acabar mal.»

25 ¶ Then Laban overtook Jacob. Now Jacob had pitched his tent in the mount; and Laban with his brethren pitched in Mount Gilead.

Labán alcanzó a Jacob cuando éste había plantado su tienda en el monte, así que Labán y sus parientes acamparon en el monte de Galaad.

26 A nd Laban said to Jacob, What hast thou done, that thou hast stolen away my heart and carried away my daughters as captives taken with the sword?

Y Labán le dijo a Jacob: «¿Qué es lo que has hecho? ¿Por qué me engañaste y trajiste a mis hijas como prisioneras de guerra?

27 W hy didst thou flee away secretly and steal away from me and didst not tell me that I might have sent thee away with mirth and with songs with tambourine and with harp?

¿Por qué te fugaste a escondidas? ¿Por qué me engañaste, y no me dijiste nada? ¡Yo te habría despedido con alegría y con cantos, con tamborines y arpas!

28 A nd hast not suffered me to kiss my sons and my daughters? Thou hast now done foolishly in so doing.

¡Ni siquiera me dejaste besar a mis hijos y mis hijas! ¡Lo que has hecho es una locura!

29 I t is in the power of my hand to do you hurt, but the God of your father spoke unto me last night, saying, Take thou heed that thou speak not to Jacob either good or bad.

Yo tengo poder para hacerles daño; pero el Dios de tu padre me habló anoche y me dijo: “Mucho cuidado con comenzar a hablarle a Jacob bien, y acabar mal.”

30 A nd now, that thou art leaving, because thy desire is after thy father’s house, yet why hast thou stolen my gods?

Pero ya que tantas ganas tenías de irte a la casa de tu padre, ¿por qué me robaste mis dioses?»

31 A nd Jacob answered and said to Laban, Because I was afraid; for I said, Peradventure thou would take by force thy daughters from me.

Jacob le respondió así a Labán: «Es que tuve miedo. Yo pensé que tal vez me quitarías tus hijas por la fuerza.

32 W ith whomsoever thou findest thy gods, let them not live; before our brethren discern what is thine with me and take it to thee. For Jacob did not know that Rachel had stolen them.

Pero al que encuentres con tus dioses en su poder, no quedará con vida. En presencia de nuestros hermanos, reconoce lo que sea tuyo y esté en mi poder, y llévatelo.» Pero Jacob no sabía que Raquel los había hurtado.

33 A nd Laban went into Jacob’s tent and into Leah’s tent, and into the two maidservants’ tents, but he did not find them. Then he went out of Leah’s tent and came to Rachel’s tent.

Labán entró en la tienda de Jacob, luego en la tienda de Lea y en la tienda de las dos siervas, y no halló nada; entonces salió de la tienda de Lea y entró en la tienda de Raquel.

34 N ow Rachel took the images and put them in a camel’s saddle and sat upon them. And Laban searched all the tent but did not find them.

Pero Raquel tomó los ídolos y los puso bajo la albarda de un camello, y se sentó sobre ellos; así que Labán buscó en toda la tienda, y no los halló.

35 A nd she said to her father, Let it not displease my lord that I cannot rise up before thee; for the custom of women is upon me. And he searched, but did not find the images.

36 ¶ Then Jacob was wroth and contended with Laban, and Jacob answered and said to Laban, What is my trespass? What is my sin that thou hast so hotly pursued after me?

Entonces Jacob se enojó, y riñó con Labán. Le reclamó: «¿En qué te he faltado? ¿Cuál es mi pecado, para que me persigas con tanto ardor?

37 W hereas thou hast searched all my stuff, what hast thou found of all thy household stuff? Set it here before my brethren and thy brethren that they may judge between us both.

Ya que has rebuscado en todas mis cosas, ¿qué has hallado de todos los enseres de tu casa? Ponlo aquí, delante de mis hermanos y de los tuyos, ¡y que juzguen entre nosotros!

38 T hese twenty years I have been with thee; thy ewes and thy she goats have not aborted their young, and I have not eaten the rams of thy flock.

Veinte años han sido los que he estado contigo, y nunca abortaron tus ovejas ni tus cabras, ni me comí un solo carnero de tus ovejas.

39 T hat which was torn of beasts I did not bring unto thee; I bore the sin; thou didst require of my hand that which was stolen, whether by day or by night.

Nunca te traje lo que las fieras arrebataron, y si algo se robaban de día o de noche, me hacías responsable y a mí me lo cobrabas.

40 B y day the drought consumed me, and by night, the frost; and my sleep departed from mine eyes.

De día me consumía el calor, y de noche la helada, y el sueño se me iba.

41 T hus have I been twenty years in thy house; I served thee fourteen years for thy two daughters and six years for thy flock; and thou hast changed my wages ten times.

Esta clase de vida he tenido en tu casa durante veinte años. Catorce te serví por tus dos hijas, y seis por tu ganado, y varias veces me has cambiado la paga.

42 I f the God of my father, the God of Abraham, and the fear of Isaac, were not with me, surely thou would send me away now empty. God has seen my affliction and the work of my hands and rebuked thee last night.

Si no estuviera conmigo el Dios de mi padre, el Dios de Abrahán, el Dios a quien Isaac temía, estoy seguro que me dejarías ir ahora con las manos vacías. Pero Dios ha visto mi aflicción y el trabajo de mis manos, y por eso te reprendió anoche.»

43 ¶ And Laban answered and said unto Jacob, These daughters are my daughters, and these sons are my sons, and these sheep are my sheep, and all that thou seest is mine; and what can I do this day unto these my daughters, or unto their sons unto whom they have given birth?

Labán le respondió a Jacob: «Las hijas son mis hijas, y los hijos son mis hijos; las ovejas son mis ovejas. ¡Todo lo que aquí ves me pertenece! Pero ¿qué puedo hacerles hoy a estas hijas mías, o a los hijos que ellas han tenido?

44 N ow therefore come thou, let us make a covenant, I and thou, and let it be for a witness between me and thee.

Ven ahora, y hagamos un pacto tú y yo, y que éste sea un testimonio entre nosotros dos.»

45 T hen Jacob took a stone and set it up for a pillar.

Entonces Jacob tomó una piedra, y la levantó como señal.

46 A nd Jacob said unto his brethren, Gather stones; and they took stones and made a heap; and they ate there upon the heap.

Jacob les dijo a sus parientes: «Recojan piedras». Y ellos tomaron piedras e hicieron un montón, y allí sobre el montón de piedras comieron.

47 A nd Laban called it Jegarsahadutha, but Jacob called it Galeed.

Labán lo llamó «Yegar Sadutá», y Jacob lo llamó «Galaad»

48 A nd Laban said, This heap is a witness between me and thee this day. Therefore was the name of it called Galeed;

porque Labán dijo: «Este montón de piedras es hoy testigo entre nosotros dos». Por eso se le conoce por el nombre de Galaad

49 a nd Mizpah; for he said, The LORD watch between me and thee when we are absent one from another.

y de Mispá, pues dijo: «Que el Señor nos vigile a ti y a mí, ahora que nos separemos el uno del otro.

50 I f thou shalt afflict my daughters, or if thou shalt take other wives beside my daughters, no man is with us; see, God is witness between me and thee.

Si acaso humillas a mis hijas, o si tomas otras mujeres además de mis hijas, nadie está con nosotros, pero Dios nos ve y es testigo entre nosotros dos.»

51 A nd Laban said to Jacob, Behold this heap, and behold this pillar, which I have raised up between me and thee;

Además, Labán le dijo a Jacob: «Mira este montón de piedras y esta señal, que he levantado entre nosotros dos.

52 l et this heap be witness and this pillar be witness that I will not pass over this heap against thee and that thou shalt not pass over this heap and this pillar against me, for harm.

Que este montón de piedras y esta señal nos sirvan de testigos, de que ni tú ni yo pasaremos más allá de este montón de piedras, ni de esta señal, para hacernos daño.

53 T he God of Abraham and the God of Nahor, the God of their fathers, judge between us. And Jacob swore by the fear of his father Isaac.

Que el Dios de Abrahán y el Dios de Najor, el Dios de sus padres, juzgue entre nosotros.» Y Jacob juró por aquel que era el temor de Isaac, su padre.

54 T hen Jacob offered sacrifice upon the mount and called his brethren to eat bread; and they ate bread and slept in the mount.

Luego Jacob ofreció sacrificios en el monte, y llamó a sus hermanos a comer pan. Después de comer, pasaron la noche en el monte.

55 A nd early in the morning Laban rose up and kissed his sons and his daughters and blessed them; and Laban departed and returned unto his place.

A la mañana siguiente Labán se levantó y besó a sus hijos y sus hijas, y los bendijo; después de eso se fue de regreso a su lugar.
