1 ¶ And after six days Jesus took Peter, James, and John, his brother, and brought them apart up into a high mountain

Seis días después Jesús se llevó aparte a Pedro, a Jacobo y a su hermano Juan. Los llevó a un monte alto,

2 a nd was transfigured before them, and his face shined as the sun, and his raiment was as white as the light.

y allí se transfiguró delante de ellos. Su rostro resplandecía como el sol, y sus vestidos se hicieron blancos como la luz.

3 A nd, behold, Moses and Elijah appeared unto them talking with him.

De pronto se les aparecieron Moisés y Elías, y hablaban con él.

4 T hen Peter answered and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to remain here; if thou desire, let us make three tabernacles here: one for thee and one for Moses and one for Elijah.

Pedro dijo entonces a Jesús: «Señor, ¡qué bueno es para nosotros estar aquí! Si quieres, podemos hacer tres cobertizos: uno para ti, otro para Moisés, y otro para Elías.»

5 W hile he yet spoke, behold, a cloud of light overshadowed them, and, behold, a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.

Todavía estaba hablando cuando una nube de luz los cubrió, y desde la nube se oyó una voz que decía: «Éste es mi Hijo amado, en quien me complazco. ¡Escúchenlo!»

6 A nd when the disciples heard it, they fell on their faces and feared greatly.

Al oír esto los discípulos, se postraron sobre sus rostros, llenos de miedo;

7 T hen Jesus came and touched them and said, Arise and be not afraid.

pero Jesús se acercó a ellos, los tocó y les dijo: «Levántense; no tengan miedo.»

8 A nd when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no one except Jesus only.

Y cuando ellos alzaron la vista, no vieron a nadie más que a Jesús.

9 A nd as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no one until the Son of man is risen from the dead.

Cuando descendieron del monte, Jesús les mandó: «No digan nada a nadie de esta visión, hasta que el Hijo del Hombre resucite de los muertos.»

10 T hen his disciples asked him, saying, Why then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?

Entonces sus discípulos le preguntaron: «¿Por qué dicen los escribas que es necesario que Elías venga primero?»

11 A nd Jesus answered and said unto them, Elijah truly shall come first and restore all things.

Jesús les respondió: «A decir verdad, Elías vendrá primero y restaurará todas las cosas.

12 B ut I say unto you, That Elijah is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatever they pleased. Likewise the Son of man shall also suffer of them.

Pero yo les digo que Elías ya vino, y no lo reconocieron, sino que hicieron con él todo lo que quisieron. Así también el Hijo del Hombre padecerá a manos de ellos.»

13 T hen the disciples understood that he spoke unto them of John the Baptist.

Al escuchar esto, los discípulos comprendieron que les estaba hablando de Juan el Bautista. Jesús sana a un muchacho lunático

14 ¶ And when they were come to the multitude, there came to him a certain man, kneeling down to him, and saying,

Cuando llegaron a donde estaba la multitud, un hombre se le acercó, se arrodilló delante de él, y le dijo:

15 L ord, have mercy on my son, for he is lunatic and suffers miserably; for many times he has fallen into the fire and often into the water.

«¡Señor, ten compasión de mi hijo! Es lunático, y padece muchísimo. Muchas veces se cae en el fuego, y muchas otras en el agua.

16 A nd I brought him to thy disciples, and they could not cure him.

Lo he llevado a tus discípulos, pero no lo han podido sanar.»

17 T hen Jesus answered and said, O unfaithful and crooked generation, how long shall I be with you? How long shall I suffer you? Bring him here to me.

Jesús dijo: «¡Ay, gente incrédula y perversa! ¿Hasta cuándo tendré que estar con ustedes? ¿Hasta cuándo tendré que soportarlos? ¡Tráiganmelo acá!»

18 A nd Jesus rebuked him, and the demon departed out of him and the child was cured from that very hour.

Jesús reprendió entonces al demonio, y éste salió del muchacho, y desde aquel mismo instante el muchacho quedó sano.

19 T hen the disciples came to Jesus apart and said, Why could not we cast him out?

Después los discípulos hablaron con Jesús aparte, y le preguntaron: «¿Por qué nosotros no pudimos expulsarlo?»

20 A nd Jesus said unto them, Because of your unfaithfulness; for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove from here to yonder place, and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.

Jesús les dijo: «Porque ustedes tienen muy poca fe. De cierto les digo, que si tuvieran fe como un grano de mostaza, le dirían a este monte: “Quítate de allí y vete a otro lugar”, y el monte les obedecería. ¡Nada sería imposible para ustedes!»

21 H owbeit this lineage of demons does not go out but by prayer and fasting.

Jesús anuncia otra vez su muerte

22 ¶ And while they abode in Galilee, Jesus said unto them, The Son of man shall be betrayed into the hands of men;

Cuando ellos estaban en Galilea, Jesús les dijo: «El Hijo del Hombre será entregado a los poderes de este mundo,

23 a nd they shall kill him, and the third day he shall be raised again. And they were exceeding sorry.

y lo matarán, pero al tercer día resucitará.» Al oír esto, ellos se entristecieron mucho. Pago del impuesto del templo

24 ¶ And when they were come to Capernaum, those that received the two drachmas came to Peter and said, Does not your master pay the two drachmas?

Cuando llegaron a Cafarnaún, los que cobraban las dos dracmas se acercaron a Pedro y le dijeron: «¿Su Maestro no paga las dos dracmas?»

25 H e said, Yes. And when he was come into the house, Jesus spoke unto him first, saying, What thinkest thou, Simon? of whom do the kings of the earth take custom or tribute? of their own sons or of strangers?

Él les respondió que sí. Pero cuando Pedro entró en la casa, Jesús le habló primero y le dijo: «¿Qué te parece, Simón? Los reyes de la tierra, ¿de quiénes cobran los tributos o los impuestos? ¿De sus hijos, o de los extraños?»

26 P eter said unto him, Of strangers. Jesus said unto him, Then the sons are free.

Pedro le respondió: «De los extraños». Jesús le dijo: «Por lo tanto, los hijos quedan exentos de pagarlos.

27 N otwithstanding, lest we should offend them, go thou to the sea and cast a hook and take up the first fish that comes up; and when thou hast opened his mouth, thou shalt find a stater, a coin worth four drachmas; take that, and give it unto them for me and thee.

Sin embargo, para no ofenderlos, ve al lago, echa el anzuelo, y toma el primer pez que saques. Al abrirle la boca, hallarás una moneda. Tómala, y dásela a ellos por ti y por mí.»
