1 ¶ What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin that grace may abound?

Entonces, ¿qué diremos? ¿Seguiremos pecando, para que la gracia abunde?

2 N o, in no wise. How shall we that are dead to sin live any longer therein?

¡De ninguna manera! Porque los que hemos muerto al pecado, ¿cómo podemos seguir viviendo en él?

3 K now ye not that all of us that are baptized into Jesus the Christ are baptized into his death?

¿No saben ustedes que todos los que fuimos bautizados en Cristo Jesús, fuimos bautizados en su muerte?

4 F or we are buried with him by baptism into death, that just as the Christ was raised up from the dead to the glory of the Father, likewise we also walk in newness of life.

Porque por el bautismo fuimos sepultados con él en su muerte, para que así como Cristo resucitó de los muertos por la gloria del Padre, así también nosotros vivamos una vida nueva.

5 F or if we have been planted together in him in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection,

Porque si nos hemos unido a Cristo en su muerte, así también nos uniremos a él en su resurrección.

6 k nowing this: that our old man is crucified with him that the body of sin might be destroyed that we should not serve sin any longer.

Sabemos que nuestro antiguo yo fue crucificado juntamente con él, para que el cuerpo del pecado sea destruido, a fin de que no sirvamos más al pecado.

7 F or he that is dead is justified from sin.

Porque el que ha muerto, ha sido liberado del pecado.

8 N ow if we die with the Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him,

Así que, si morimos con Cristo, creemos que también viviremos con él.

9 k nowing that the Christ, having been raised from the dead, dies no more; death has no more dominion over him.

Sabemos que Cristo resucitó y que no volverá a morir, pues la muerte ya no tiene poder sobre él.

10 F or he that is dead died unto sin once, and he that lives, lives unto God.

Porque en cuanto a su muerte, murió al pecado de una vez y para siempre; pero en cuanto a su vida, vive para Dios.

11 L ikewise also reckon yourselves to be truly dead unto sin, but alive unto God in Christ, Jesus, our Lord.

Así también ustedes, considérense muertos al pecado pero vivos para Dios en Cristo Jesús, nuestro Señor.

12 T herefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof.

Por lo tanto, no permitan ustedes que el pecado reine en su cuerpo mortal, ni lo obedezcan en sus malos deseos.

13 N either present your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin, but present yourselves unto God as those that are alive from the dead and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God.

Tampoco presenten sus miembros al pecado como instrumentos de iniquidad, sino preséntense ustedes mismos a Dios como vivos de entre los muertos, y presenten sus miembros a Dios como instrumentos de justicia.

14 S o that sin shall have no dominion over you; for ye are not under the law, but under grace.

El pecado ya no tendrá poder sobre ustedes, pues ya no están bajo la ley sino bajo la gracia. Siervos de la justicia

15 W hat then? shall we sin because we are not under the law, but under grace? No, in no wise.

¿Entonces, qué? ¿Pecaremos porque no estamos bajo la ley sino bajo la gracia? ¡De ninguna manera!

16 O r know ye not that to whom ye present yourselves slaves to obey, his slaves ye are to whom ye obey, whether of sin unto death or of the obedience unto righteousness?

¿Acaso no saben ustedes que, si se someten a alguien para obedecerlo como esclavos, se hacen esclavos de aquel a quien obedecen, ya sea del pecado que lleva a la muerte, o de la obediencia que lleva a la justicia?

17 T hank God that, although ye were the slaves of sin, ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine unto which ye are delivered;

Pero gracias a Dios que, aunque ustedes eran esclavos del pecado, han obedecido de corazón al modelo de enseñanza que han recibido,

18 a nd freed from sin, ye are become the slaves of righteousness.

y una vez liberados del pecado llegaron a ser siervos de la justicia.

19 I speak a human thing because of the weakness of our flesh: that as ye presented your members to serve uncleanness and iniquity unto iniquity, likewise now present your members to serve righteousness unto holiness.

Hablo en términos humanos, por la debilidad de su naturaleza humana. Así como para practicar la iniquidad presentaron sus miembros para servir a la impureza y la maldad, ahora, para practicar la santidad, presenten sus miembros para servir a la justicia.

20 F or being previously the slaves of sin, now ye have been made the slaves of righteousness.

Cuando ustedes eran esclavos del pecado, eran libres en cuanto a la justicia.

21 W hat fruit had ye then in those things of which ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death.

¿Pero qué provecho sacaron de eso? Ahora ustedes se avergüenzan de aquellas cosas, pues conducen a la muerte;

22 B ut now freed from sin and made slaves to God, ye have as your fruit sanctification and as the end, everlasting life.

pero como ya han sido liberados del pecado y hechos siervos de Dios, el provecho que obtienen es la santificación, cuya meta final es la vida eterna.

23 F or the wages of sin is death, but the grace of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Porque la paga del pecado es muerte, pero la dádiva de Dios es vida eterna en Cristo Jesús, nuestro Señor.
