1 ¶ Better is the poor that walks in his integrity than he that is perverse in his lips and is a fool.

Es mejor ser pobre y honrado, que ser intrigante y presuntuoso.

2 ¶ That the soul be without wisdom is not good, and he that hastens with his feet sins.

Donde no hay conocimiento, no hay bondad; donde hay premura, hay locura.

3 ¶ The foolishness of man perverts his way, and his heart is wroth against the LORD.

La necedad lleva al hombre al extravío, y le hace volcar su enojo contra el Señor.

4 ¶ Wealth makes many friends, but the poor is separated from his neighbour.

Las riquezas atraen a muchos amigos, pero del pobre hasta sus amigos se apartan.

5 ¶ A false witness shall not go unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall not escape.

El testigo falso no quedará sin castigo; no escapará el que propala mentiras.

6 ¶ Many will intreat the favour of the prince, but every man is a friend to him that gives.

Muchos buscan el favor del que es generoso; al que es desprendido no le faltan amigos.

7 A ll the brethren of the poor hate him; how much more shall his friends separate themselves from him? He shall seek their friendship and not find it.

Al pobre, sus hermanos lo aborrecen, y hasta sus amigos se apartan de él. Busca palabras, pero no las encuentra.

8 ¶ He that gets wisdom loves his own soul; he keeps intelligence that he might find that which is good.

El que tiene cordura se ama a sí mismo; el que obedece a la inteligencia halla el bien.

9 ¶ The false witness shall not go unpunished, and he that speaks lies shall perish.

El testigo falso no quedará sin castigo, y el mentiroso será destruido.

10 ¶ Delight is not suitable for a fool; much less for a slave to have rule over princes.

Tan mal se ve que un necio viva entre lujos como que un esclavo gobierne entre reyes.

11 ¶ The discretion of a man defers his anger, and it is his glory to pass over a transgression.

La cordura del hombre calma su furor; su honra es pasar por alto la ofensa.

12 ¶ The king’s wrath is as the roaring of a lion, but his favour is as dew upon the grass.

La ira del rey es como el rugido de un león; su bondad es como el rocío sobre la hierba.

13 ¶ A foolish son is a pain unto his father, and the contentions of a wife are a continual dripping.

El hijo necio es un dolor para su padre; la mujer contenciosa es gotera constante.

14 ¶ House and riches are the inheritance from fathers, but the prudent wife is from the LORD.

Casa y riquezas, herencia paterna; mujer prudente, herencia del Señor.

15 ¶ Slothfulness casts into a deep sleep, and the negligent soul shall suffer hunger.

La pereza te lleva a un sueño profundo; pasarás hambre si eres negligente.

16 ¶ He that keeps the commandment keeps his own soul, but he that despises his ways shall die.

Respetar el mandamiento es respetarse uno mismo; el que menosprecia sus caminos, morirá.

17 ¶ He that gives unto the poor lends unto the LORD, and he will give him his reward.

Dar algo al pobre es dárselo al Señor; el Señor sabe pagar el bien que se hace.

18 ¶ Chasten thy son while there is hope, but do not stir up thy soul to destroy him.

Castiga a tu hijo mientras haya esperanza; pero tómalo con calma, no vayas a matarlo.

19 ¶ A man of great wrath shall suffer the consequences, for even if thou deliver him, yet thou must do it again.

Enojarse demasiado lleva al desastre; tratar de evitarlo sólo añade nuevos males.

20 ¶ Hear counsel, and receive chastening that thou may be wise in thy old age.

Atiende al consejo, y acepta la corrección; así acabarás siendo sabio.

21 ¶ There are many thoughts in the heart of man; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD shall stand.

Son muchas las ideas del corazón humano; sólo el consejo del Señor permanece.

22 ¶ Contentment is unto men to show mercy, but it is better to do it unto the poor than to the liar.

Muy deseable es la bondad en el hombre; es mejor ser pobre que mentiroso.

23 ¶ The fear of the LORD is unto life, and he that has it shall live satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil.

El temor del Señor es fuente de vida, y nos hace vivir tranquilos y libres de temores.

24 ¶ The slothful man hides his hand in his bosom and will not so much as bring it to his mouth again.

El perezoso mete la mano en el plato, pero le pesa llevarse el bocado a la boca.

25 ¶ Smite a scorner, and the simple will become prudent, and reproving one that has understanding, he will understand knowledge.

Golpea al burlón, y el ingenuo aprenderá algo; corrige al entendido, y adquirirá conocimiento.

26 ¶ He that steals from his father and chases away his mother is a son that causes shame and brings reproach.

El que roba a su padre y ahuyenta a su madre es un hijo que causa vergüenza y oprobio.

27 ¶ Cease, my son, to hear the teaching that induces one to deviate from the reasons of wisdom.

Hijo mío, si desoyes la corrección, te alejarás de sabios razonamientos.

28 ¶ A witness of Belial shall scorn judgment, and the mouth of the wicked shall cover iniquity.

El testigo perverso se burla del juicio; la boca de los impíos encubre la iniquidad.

29 ¶ Judgments are prepared for scorners and stripes for the back of fools.

A los burlones les espera la sentencia; a la espalda de los necios, los azotes.
