1 ¶ Thus hath the LORD said unto me, Go and buy thee a linen girdle and put it upon thy loins, and thou shalt not put it in water.

Así me dijo el Señor: «Ve y cómprate un cinturón de lino, y cíñetelo, pero no lo remojes en agua.»

2 A nd I bought the girdle according to the word of the LORD and put it on my loins.

En obediencia a la palabra del Señor, fui y compré el cinturón, y me lo ceñí.

3 A nd the word of the LORD came unto me the second time, saying,

Por segunda vez vino a mí la palabra del Señor, y me dijo:

4 T ake the girdle that thou hast bought, which is upon thy loins, and arise; go to the Euphrates and hide it there in a hole of the rock.

«Toma el cinturón que compraste, y que te has ceñido a la cintura, y disponte a ir al río Éufrates para esconder el cinturón en la hendidura de una peña.»

5 S o I went and hid it in the Euphrates, as the LORD commanded me.

Yo fui y escondí el cinturón junto al Éufrates, tal y como el Señor me lo ordenó.

6 A nd it came to pass after many days that the LORD said unto me, Arise; go to the Euphrates and take from there the girdle, which I commanded thee to hide there.

Después de un largo tiempo el Señor me dijo: «Levántate y vete al Éufrates, y saca de allí el cinturón que te mandé esconder allá.»

7 T hen I went to the Euphrates and dug and took the girdle from the place where I had hid it; and, behold, the girdle was rotted, it was good for nothing.

Entonces fui al Éufrates, y cavé y saqué el cinturón de donde lo había escondido, ¡y resultó que el cinturón se había podrido! ¡Ya no servía para nada!

8 T hen the word of the LORD came unto me, saying,

La palabra del Señor vino entonces a mí, y me dijo:

9 T hus hath the LORD said, After this manner I will cause the pride of Judah to rot and the great pride of Jerusalem.

«Así dice el Señor: Del mismo modo haré que se pudran la soberbia de Judá y la mucha soberbia de Jerusalén.

10 T his evil people that refuses to hear my words, which walk in the imagination of their heart and went after other gods to serve them and to worship them shall even be as this girdle, which is good for nothing.

Este pueblo malvado no quiere oír mis palabras. Anda divagando en su corazón y va en pos de dioses ajenos para servirles y adorarlos, pero vendrá a ser como este cinturón, que no sirve para nada.

11 F or as the girdle cleaves to the loins of a man, so I have caused to cleave unto me the whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah, saith the LORD; that they might be unto me for a people and for fame, and for a praise, and for honour; but they did not hear.

Yo quería que toda la casa de Israel y toda la casa de Judá se juntaran conmigo, así como el cinturón se junta a la cintura. Quería que fueran un pueblo que me diera renombre, y que me alabara y honrara. ¡Pero no me hicieron caso! —Palabra del Señor. La señal de las tinajas llenas

12 ¶ Therefore thou shalt speak unto them this word: Thus hath the LORD God of Israel said, Every bottle shall be filled with wine; and they shall say unto thee, Do we not certainly know that every bottle shall be filled with wine?

»Diles también que yo, el Señor y Dios de Israel, he dicho: “Todos los odres se llenan de vino.” Ellos te responderán: “¿Y acaso no sabemos que todos los odres se llenan de vino?”

13 T hen shalt thou say unto them, Thus hath the LORD said, Behold, I fill all the inhabitants of this land with drunken ness, even the kings that sit upon David’s throne and the priests and the prophets and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Entonces les dirás: “Así ha dicho el Señor: Voy a llenar de vino a todos los habitantes de esta tierra, lo mismo a los reyes de la estirpe de David, que ocupan su trono, que a los sacerdotes y profetas y a todos los habitantes de Jerusalén.

14 A nd I will break them one against another, even the fathers with the sons together, saith the LORD; I will not pity nor spare nor have mercy to not destroy them.

Los voy a estrellar unos contra otros, lo mismo a los padres que a los hijos. No los perdonaré, ni les tendré piedad ni compasión para no destruirlos.”» —Palabra del Señor. Judá será llevada en cautiverio

15 H ear ye and give ear; do not be proud: for the LORD has spoken.

¡Escuchen! ¡Presten atención! No sean arrogantes, que quien habla es el Señor.

16 G ive glory to the LORD your God before he causes darkness and before your feet stumble in mountains of darkness, and while ye look for light, he turns it into the shadow of death and makes it gross darkness.

Denle gloria al Señor su Dios antes de que él haga venir las tinieblas; antes de que ustedes tropiecen en montes sombríos, y ustedes esperen la luz, y él la convierta en las más densas sombras y tinieblas.

17 B ut if ye will not hear this, my soul shall weep in secret because of your pride; and weeping bitterly, my eyes shall be undone in tears because the LORD’s flock was carried away captive.

Pero si no me hacen caso, mi alma llorará en secreto por culpa de la soberbia de ustedes; mis ojos se anegarán en lágrimas y llorarán amargamente, porque el rebaño del Señor será llevado cautivo.

18 S ay unto the king and to the queen, Humble yourselves, sit down in the dust because the crown of your glory has come down off your heads.

«Diles al rey y a la reina que se humillen y se sienten en el suelo. Ha caído de su cabeza la corona que les daba potestad.

19 T he cities of the south were shut up, and no one could open them: Judah was carried away captive; all of it, it was completely carried away captive.

Las ciudades del Néguev han sido clausuradas, y no hay quien abra sus puertas; todo el pueblo de Judá ha sido llevado en cautiverio.

20 L ift up your eyes, and behold those that come from the north wind: where is the flock that was given thee, the cattle of thy beauty?

Levanten los ojos, y vean a los que vienen del norte. ¿Dónde está ese hermoso rebaño que les fue confiado?

21 W hat wilt thou say when he shall visit thee? For thou hast taught them to be princes and as head over thee; shall not sorrows take thee as a woman in travail?

¿Qué dirán cuando el Señor ponga al frente de ustedes a quienes ustedes creían que eran sus amigos? ¿No se retorcerán de dolor, como cuando una mujer está a punto de dar a luz?

22 ¶ When thou shalt say in thine heart, Why do these things come upon me? For the greatness of thine iniquity are thy skirts discovered and thy heels made bare.

Si acaso se preguntan por qué les sobrevino esto, sepan que fue por causa de su gran maldad. ¡Por eso fueron desgarrados sus vestidos! ¡Por eso quedó al descubierto su desnudez!

23 C an the Ethiopian change his skin or the leopard his spots? Likewise ye also cannot do good, being taught to do evil.

¿Acaso pueden los etíopes cambiar de piel, o los leopardos cambiar sus manchas? ¡Pues tampoco ustedes pueden hacer el bien, ya que están habituados a hacer el mal!

24 T herefore I will scatter them as the stubble that passes away by the wind of the wilderness.

Por lo tanto, yo los lanzaré al viento del desierto, para que desaparezcan como el tamo.

25 T his shall be thy lot, the portion of thy measures from me said the LORD; because thou hast forgotten me, and trusted in falsehood.

¡Ésa es la suerte de ustedes! ¡Ésa es la parte que les he asignado, por haberse olvidado de mí y por confiar en dioses falsos! —Palabra del Señor.

26 T herefore I uncovered thy skirts before thy face, and thy shame was manifested.

»Pero yo también te desgarraré los vestidos y pondré al descubierto tu desnudez

27 I have seen thine adulteries and thy neighings, the lewdness of thy whoredom upon the hills; in the same field I saw thine abominations. Woe unto thee, O Jerusalem! wilt thou not be made clean at last? How long then shall it be?

y tus adulterios, tus jadeos e infidelidades en las colinas y en los campos, donde vi tu abominable conducta. »¡Ay de ti, Jerusalén! ¿Hasta cuándo seguirás sin purificarte?»
