1 ¶ Then we turned and took our journey into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea, as the LORD had said unto me; and we went around Mount Seir many days

“Después nos volvimos y salimos hacia el desierto por el camino del Mar Rojo, como el Señor me había mandado, y por muchos días dimos vueltas al Monte Seir.

2 u ntil the LORD spoke unto me, saying,

Entonces el Señor me habló:

3 Y e have gone around this mountain long enough; return unto the Aquilon.

‘Ustedes han dado ya bastantes vueltas alrededor de este monte. Vuélvanse ahora hacia el norte,

4 A nd command thou the people, saying, Ye are to pass through the border of your brethren, the sons of Esau, who dwell in Seir; and they shall be afraid of you; take care unto yourselves, therefore;

y da orden al pueblo, diciendo: “Ustedes van a pasar por el territorio de sus hermanos, los hijos de Esaú que habitan en Seir, y ellos les tendrán miedo. Así que tengan mucho cuidado;

5 d o not seek a fight with them; for I will not give you of their land, no, not so much as a foot breadth because I have given Mount Seir unto Esau for an inheritance.

no los provoquen, porque no les daré nada de su tierra, ni siquiera la huella de un pie, porque a Esaú he dado el Monte Seir por posesión.

6 Y e shall buy food from them for money that ye may eat, and ye shall also buy water from them for money that ye may drink.

Les comprarán con dinero los alimentos para comer, y también con dinero comprarán de ellos agua para beber.

7 F or the LORD thy God has blessed thee in all the works of thy hand; he knows thy walking through this great wilderness; these forty years the LORD thy God has been with thee; thou hast lacked nothing.

Pues el Señor tu Dios te ha bendecido en todo lo que has hecho; El ha conocido tu peregrinar a través de este inmenso desierto. Por cuarenta años el Señor tu Dios ha estado contigo; nada te ha faltado.”’ En Camino de Cades a Zered

8 ¶ And when we passed by our brethren, the sons of Esau, who dwelt in Seir, through the way of the plain from Elath and from Eziongaber, we turned and passed by the way of the wilderness of Moab.

“Pasamos, pues, de largo a nuestros hermanos, los hijos de Esaú que habitan en Seir, lejos del camino del Arabá, lejos de Elat y de Ezión Geber. Y nos volvimos, y pasamos por el camino del desierto de Moab.

9 A nd the LORD said unto me, Distress not the Moabites, neither contend with them in battle; for I will not give thee of their land for a possession because I have given Ar unto the sons of Lot for an inheritance.

Entonces el Señor me dijo: ‘No molestes a Moab, ni los provoques a la guerra, porque no te daré nada de su tierra por posesión, pues he dado Ar a los hijos de Lot por posesión.

10 ( The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many and tall as the Anakims,

(Antes habitaban allí los Emitas, un pueblo tan grande, numeroso y alto como los Anaceos.

11 w hich also were accounted giants as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims.

Como los Anaceos, ellos también son considerados gigantes, pero los Moabitas los llaman Emitas.

12 T he Horims also dwelt in Seir before time, but the sons of Esau inherited from them, and they destroyed them from before them and dwelt in their stead as Israel did in the land of his possession, which the LORD gave unto them.)

Los Horeos habitaban antes en Seir, pero los hijos de Esaú los desalojaron y los destruyeron delante de ellos, y se establecieron en su lugar, tal como Israel hizo con la tierra que el Señor les dio en posesión.)

13 N ow rise up, said I, and pass the brook Zered. And we went over the brook Zered.

‘Levántense ahora, y crucen el torrente de Zered,’ dijo el Señor. Y cruzamos el torrente de Zered.

14 A nd the days in which we came from Kadeshbarnea until we were come over the brook Zered, was thirty-eight years until all the generation of the men of war were wasted out from among the camp, as the LORD swore unto them.

El tiempo que nos llevó para venir de Cades Barnea, hasta que cruzamos el torrente de Zered, fue de treinta y ocho años; hasta que pereció toda la generación de los hombres de guerra de en medio del campamento, como el Señor les había jurado.

15 F or indeed the hand of the LORD was against them, to destroy them from among the camp until they were consumed.

Además, la mano del Señor fue contra ellos, para destruirlos de en medio del campamento, hasta que todos perecieron.

16 S o it came to pass, when all the men of war were consumed and dead from among the people

“Cuando todos los hombres de guerra ya habían perecido de entre el pueblo,

17 t hat the LORD spoke unto me, saying,

el Señor me habló:

18 T hou art to pass the border of Moab today unto Ar,

‘Tú cruzarás hoy por Ar la frontera de Moab.

19 a nd when thou comest near over against the sons of Ammon, do not distress them nor meddle with them, for I will not give thee of the land of the sons of Ammon any possession because I have given it unto the sons of Lot for an inheritance.

Y cuando llegues frente a los Amonitas, no los molestes ni los provoques, porque no te daré en posesión nada de la tierra de los Amonitas, pues se la he dado a los hijos de Lot por heredad.’

20 ( That also was accounted a land of giants; giants dwelt therein in another time, and the Ammonites called them Zamzummims,

(Esta región es también conocida como la tierra de los gigantes, porque antiguamente habitaban gigantes en ella, a los que los Amonitas llaman Zomzomeos,

21 a people great and many and tall as the Anakims; whom the LORD destroyed before the Ammonites; and they inherited from them and dwelt in their stead,

pueblo grande, numeroso y alto como los Anaceos, pero que el Señor destruyó delante de ellos. Y los Amonitas los desalojaron y se establecieron en su lugar,

22 a s he did to the sons of Esau who dwelt in Seir when he destroyed the Horims from before them; and they inherited from them and dwelt in their stead even unto this day.

tal como Dios hizo con los hijos de Esaú, que habitan en Seir, cuando destruyó a los Horeos delante de ellos; y ellos los desalojaron, y se establecieron en su lugar hasta hoy.

23 A nd the Avims who dwelt in Hazerim, even unto Gaza, the Caphtorims, who came forth out of Caphtor, destroyed them and dwelt in their stead.)

Y a los Aveos que habitaban en aldeas hasta Gaza, los Caftoreos (Filisteos), que salieron de Caftor (Creta), los destruyeron y se establecieron en su lugar.)

24 ¶ Rise ye up, take your journey, and pass the river Arnon; behold, I have given into thine hand Sihon, the Amorite king of Heshbon, and his land; begin, take possession and contend with him in battle.

‘Levántense; pónganse en marcha y pasen por el Valle del Arnón. Mira, he entregado en tu mano a Sehón Amorreo, rey de Hesbón, y a su tierra; comienza a tomar posesión y entra en batalla con él.

25 T his day I will begin to put the dread of thee and the fear of thee upon the peoples that are under the whole heaven, who shall hear the report of thee, and shall tremble and be in anguish because of thee.

Hoy comenzaré a infundir el espanto y terror tuyo sobre los pueblos debajo del cielo, quienes, al oír tu fama, temblarán y se angustiarán a causa de ti.’ Conquista de Sehón

26 A nd I sent ambassadors out of the wilderness of Kedemoth unto Sihon, king of Heshbon, with words of peace, saying,

“ Entonces, desde el desierto de Cademot, envié mensajeros a Sehón, rey de Hesbón, con palabras de paz, diciéndole:

27 L et me pass through thy land; I will go along by the high way; I will neither turn unto the right hand nor to the left.

‘Déjeme pasar por su tierra; solamente iré por el camino, sin apartarme ni a la derecha ni a la izquierda.

28 T hou shalt sell me food for money, that I may eat, and give me water for money, that I may drink; I will only pass through on my feet

Me venderá comestibles por dinero para que yo pueda comer, y me dará agua por dinero para que pueda beber; déjeme tan sólo pasar a pie,

29 ( as the sons of Esau, who dwell in Seir, and the Moabites, who dwell in Ar, did unto me) until I shall pass the Jordan into the land which the LORD our God gives us.

tal como hicieron conmigo los hijos de Esaú que habitan en Seir y los Moabitas que habitan en Ar, hasta que cruce el Jordán a la tierra que el Señor nuestro Dios nos da.’

30 B ut Sihon, king of Heshbon, would not let us pass by him, for the LORD thy God had hardened his spirit and made his heart obstinate that he might deliver him into thy hand as until this day.

Pero Sehón, rey de Hesbón, no quiso dejarnos pasar por su tierra porque el Señor tu Dios endureció su espíritu e hizo obstinado su corazón, a fin de entregarlo en tus manos, como lo está hoy.

31 A nd the LORD said unto me, Behold, I have begun to give Sihon and his land before thee; begin, take possession that thou may inherit his land.

Y el Señor me dijo: ‘Mira, he comenzado a entregar a Sehón y su tierra en tus manos. Comienza a ocupar la para que poseas la tierra.’

32 T hen Sihon came out against us, he and all his people, to fight at Jahaz.

“Entonces Sehón salió con todo su pueblo a encontrarnos en batalla en Jahaza.

33 B ut the LORD our God delivered him before us; and we smote him and his sons and all his people.

Y el Señor nuestro Dios lo entregó a nosotros; y lo derrotamos a él, a sus hijos y a todo su pueblo.

34 A nd we took all his cities at that time and utterly destroyed all the cities, the men and the women and the little ones; we left none to remain.

En aquel tiempo tomamos todas sus ciudades, y exterminamos a hombres, mujeres y niños de cada ciudad. No dejamos ningún sobreviviente.

35 W e took only the beasts for a prey unto ourselves and the spoil of the cities which we took.

Tomamos solamente como nuestro botín los animales y los despojos de las ciudades que habíamos capturado.

36 F rom Aroer, which is by the brink of the river of Arnon, and from the city that is by the river even unto Gilead, there was not one city escaped us; the LORD our God delivered all of them before us.

Desde Aroer, que está a la orilla del Valle del Arnón, y desde la ciudad que está en el valle, aun hasta Galaad, no hubo ciudad inaccesible para nosotros; el Señor nuestro Dios nos las entregó todas.

37 O nly unto the land of the sons of Ammon thou camest not, nor unto any place of the river Jabbok, nor unto the cities in the mountains, nor unto any place that the LORD our God forbade us.

Pero, conforme a todo lo que el Señor nuestro Dios había prohibido, no te acercaste a la tierra de los Amonitas, a todo lo largo del arroyo Jaboc, ni a las ciudades del monte.
