1 ¶ As snow in summer and as rain in harvest, so honour is not suited for a fool.

Como nieve en el verano y como lluvia en la siega, Así la honra no es apropiada para el necio.

2 ¶ As the sparrow in its wandering, as the swallow in its flight, so the curse causeless shall never come.

Como el gorrión en su vagar y la golondrina en su vuelo Así la maldición no viene sin causa.

3 ¶ A whip for the horse, a bridle for the ass, and a rod for the fool’s back.

El látigo es para el caballo, la brida para el asno, Y la vara para la espalda de los necios.

4 ¶ Never answer a fool according to his folly lest thou also be like unto him.

No respondas al necio de acuerdo con su necedad, Para que no seas tú también como él.

5 A nswer the fool showing him his folly lest he be wise in his own conceit.

Responde al necio según su necedad se merece, Para que no sea sabio ante sus propios ojos.

6 ¶ He that gives responsibility to one who is not able to carry it out is like him that sends a message by the hand of a fool, and he shall drink the damage.

Se corta los pies y bebe violencia El que envía recado por mano de un necio.

7 L ike unto the way that the one who is lame walks, so is a proverb in the mouth of the fool.

Como las piernas que penden del lisiado, Así es el proverbio en boca de los necios.

8 A s he that binds the stone in the sling, so is he that gives honour to a fool.

Como el que ata la piedra a la honda, Así es el que da honor al necio.

9 A s thorns sunk into the hand of one who is drunk, so is a proverb in the mouth of fools.

Como espina que se clava en la mano de un borracho, Así es el proverbio en boca de los necios.

10 ¶ The great God that formed all things rewards both the fool and transgressors.

Como arquero que a todos hiere, Así es el que toma a sueldo al necio o a los que pasan.

11 ¶ As a dog returns to his vomit, so the fool returns to his folly.

Como perro que vuelve a su vómito Es el necio que repite su necedad.

12 ¶ Seest thou a man wise in his own conceit? there is more hope of a fool than of him.

¿Has visto a un hombre que se tiene por sabio ? Más esperanza hay para el necio que para él.

13 ¶ The slothful man saith, There is a lion in the way; a lion is in the streets.

El perezoso dice: “Hay un león en el camino; Hay un león en medio de la plaza.”

14 ¶ As the door turns upon his hinges, so does the slothful upon his bed.

Como la puerta gira sobre sus goznes, Así da vueltas el perezoso en su cama.

15 ¶ The slothful hides his hand in his bosom; it grieves him to bring it again to his mouth.

El perezoso mete la mano en el plato, Pero se fatiga de llevársela a la boca.

16 ¶ The sluggard is wiser in his own conceit than seven men that can give him counsel.

El perezoso es más sabio ante sus propios ojos Que siete que den una respuesta discreta.

17 ¶ He that passes by and meddles with strife not belonging to him is like one that takes a dog by the ears.

Como el que toma un perro por las orejas, Así es el que pasa y se entremete en pleito que no es suyo.

18 ¶ As a mad man who casts firebrands, arrows, and death,

Como el enloquecido que lanza Teas encendidas, flechas y muerte,

19 s o is the man that destroys his friend and says, Am I not in sport?

Así es el hombre que engaña a su prójimo, Y dice: “¿Acaso no estaba yo bromeando ?”

20 ¶ Where there is no wood, the fire goes out, so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceases.

Por falta de leña se apaga el fuego, Y donde no hay chismoso, se calma la discusión.

21 C harcoal for burning coals and wood for fire, and a contentious man to kindle strife.

Como carbón para las brasas y leña para el fuego, Así es el hombre rencilloso para encender pleitos.

22 T he words of a talebearer seem smooth, but they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

Las palabras del chismoso son como bocados deliciosos, Y penetran hasta el fondo de las entrañas.

23 ¶ Burning lips and a wicked heart are like a potsherd covered with silver dross.

Como vasija de barro revestida de escoria de plata, Así son los labios ardientes y el corazón perverso.

24 ¶ He that hates dissembles with his lips and lays up deceit within him;

El que odia, disimula con sus labios, Pero en su corazón acumula engaño.

25 w hen he speaks fair, do not believe him, for there are seven abominations in his heart.

Cuando su voz sea agradable, no lo creas, Pues hay siete abominaciones en su corazón.

26 E ven though his hatred is covered up in the desert, his wickedness shall be showed before the whole congregation.

Aunque su odio se cubra con engaño, Su perversidad será descubierta en la asamblea.

27 ¶ Whosoever digs a pit shall fall therein, and he that rolls a stone, it will return upon him.

El que cava un hoyo caerá en él, Y el que hace rodar una piedra, sobre él volverá.

28 ¶ A lying tongue hates those that are afflicted by it, and a flattering mouth works ruin.

La lengua mentirosa odia a los que oprime, Y la boca lisonjera causa ruina.
