1 ¶ In the meantime, when there were gathered together an innumerable multitude of people, insomuch that they trode one upon another, he began to say unto his disciples first of all, Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy.

Entre tanto, una multitud de miles y miles se había reunido, tanto que se atropellaban unos a otros. Jesús comenzó a hablar primero a Sus discípulos: “Cuídense de la levadura de los Fariseos, que es la hipocresía.

2 F or there is nothing covered that shall not be revealed, neither hid that shall not be known.

Nada hay encubierto que no haya de ser revelado, ni oculto que no haya de saberse.

3 T herefore whatever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light, and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.

Por lo cual, todo lo que han dicho en la oscuridad se oirá a la luz, y lo que han susurrado en las habitaciones interiores, será proclamado desde las azoteas.

4 A nd I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of those that kill the body and, after that, have no more that they can do.

“Así que Yo les digo, amigos Míos: no teman a los que matan el cuerpo, y después de esto no tienen nada más que puedan hacer.

5 B ut I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, who, after being killed, has power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear him.

Pero Yo les mostraré a quién deben temer: teman a Aquél que, después de matar, tiene poder para arrojar al infierno; sí, les digo: ¡A El, teman!

6 A re not five sparrows sold for two farthings, and not one of them is forgotten before God?

¿No se venden cinco pajarillos por dos moneditas ? Y sin embargo, ni uno de ellos está olvidado ante Dios.

7 B ut even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear not, therefore; ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Es más, aun los cabellos de la cabeza de ustedes están todos contados. No teman; ustedes valen más que muchos pajarillos.

8 A lso I say unto you, Whosoever shall confess me before men, him shall the Son of man also confess before the angels of God;

“Les digo, que a todo el que Me confiese delante de los hombres, el Hijo del Hombre lo confesará también ante los ángeles de Dios;

9 b ut he that denies me before men shall be denied before the angels of God.

pero el que Me niegue delante de los hombres, será negado delante de los ángeles de Dios.

10 A nd whosoever shall speak a word against the Son of man, there is forgiveness for him; but unto him that blasphemes against the Holy Spirit, it shall not be forgiven.

Y a todo el que diga una palabra contra el Hijo del Hombre, se le perdonará; pero al que blasfeme contra el Espíritu Santo, no se le perdonará.

11 A nd when they bring you unto the synagogues and unto magistrates and powers, take ye no thought how or what thing ye shall answer or what ye shall say;

Cuando los lleven a las sinagogas y ante los gobernantes y las autoridades, no se preocupen de cómo o de qué hablarán en defensa propia, o qué van a decir;

12 f or the Holy Spirit shall teach you in the same hour what ye ought to say.

porque el Espíritu Santo en esa misma hora les enseñará lo que deben decir.” Advertencia contra la Avaricia

13 ¶ And one of the crowd said unto him, Master, speak to my brother, that he divide the inheritance with me.

Uno de la multitud Le dijo: “Maestro, dile a mi hermano que divida la herencia conmigo.”

14 A nd he said unto him, Man, who made me a judge or a divider over you?

“¡Hombre!” le dijo Jesús, “¿Quién Me ha puesto por juez o árbitro sobre ustedes?”

15 A nd he said unto them, Take heed and beware of all covetousness; for a man’s life consists not in the abundance of the things which he possesses.

También les dijo: “Estén atentos y cuídense de toda forma de avaricia; porque aun cuando alguien tenga abundancia, su vida no consiste en sus bienes.”

16 A nd he spoke a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully;

Entonces les contó una parábola: “La tierra de cierto hombre rico había producido mucho.

17 a nd he thought within himself, saying, What shall I do because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?

Y él pensaba dentro de sí: ‘¿Qué haré, ya que no tengo dónde almacenar mis cosechas?’

18 A nd he said, This will I do: I will pull down my storehouses and build greater, and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods.

Entonces dijo: ‘Esto haré: derribaré mis graneros y edificaré otros más grandes, y allí almacenaré todo mi grano y mis bienes.

19 A nd I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast many goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry.

Y diré a mi alma: alma, tienes muchos bienes depositados para muchos años; descansa, come, bebe, diviértete.’

20 B ut God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee; then whose shall those things be which thou hast stored up?

Pero Dios le dijo: ‘¡Necio! Esta misma noche te reclaman el alma; y ahora, ¿para quién será lo que has provisto ?’

21 S o is he that lays up treasure for himself and is not rich in God.

Así es el que acumula tesoro para sí, y no es rico para con Dios.” Advertencia contra la Ansiedad

22 ¶ And he said unto his disciples, Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat; neither for the body, what ye shall put on.

A Sus discípulos Jesús les dijo: “ Por eso les digo que no se preocupen por su vida, qué comerán; ni por su cuerpo, qué vestirán.

23 T he life is more than food, and the body is more than raiment.

Porque la vida es más que el alimento, y el cuerpo más que la ropa.

24 C onsider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which neither have storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them: how much more are ye better than the fowls?

Consideren los cuervos, que ni siembran ni siegan; no tienen bodega ni granero, y sin embargo, Dios los alimenta. ¡Cuánto más valen ustedes que las aves!

25 A nd which of you with taking thought can add to his stature one cubit?

¿Quién de ustedes, por ansioso que esté, puede añadir una hora al curso de su vida ?

26 I f ye then are not able to do that thing which is least, why take ye thought for the rest?

Si ustedes, pues, no pueden hacer algo tan pequeño, ¿por qué se preocupan por lo demás?

27 C onsider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.

Consideren los lirios, cómo crecen; no trabajan ni hilan. Pero les digo que ni Salomón en toda su gloria se vistió como uno de éstos.

28 I f then God so clothes the grass, which is today in the field and tomorrow is cast into the oven, how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?

Y si Dios viste así la hierba del campo, que hoy es y mañana es echada al horno, ¡cuánto más hará por ustedes, hombres de poca fe!

29 A nd seek not what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink, neither be ye high minded.

Ustedes, pues no busquen qué han de comer, ni qué han de beber, y no estén preocupados.

30 F or all these things do the Gentiles of the world seek after, and your Father knows that ye have need of these things.

Porque los pueblos del mundo buscan ansiosamente todas estas cosas; pero el Padre de ustedes sabe que necesitan estas cosas.

31 B ut rather seek ye the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added unto you.

Pero busquen Su reino, y estas cosas les serán añadidas.

32 F ear not, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

No temas, rebaño pequeño, porque el Padre de ustedes ha decidido darles el reino.

33 S ell what ye have and give alms; provide yourselves bags which wax not old, a treasure in the heavens that fails not, where no thief approaches neither moth corrupts.

Vendan sus posesiones y den limosnas; háganse bolsas que no se deterioran, un tesoro en los cielos que no se agota, donde no se acerca ningún ladrón ni la polilla destruye.

34 F or where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Porque donde esté el tesoro de ustedes, allí también estará su corazón. Parábola de los Siervos Vigilantes

35 L et your loins be girded about and your lamps burning,

“Estén siempre preparados y mantengan las lámparas encendidas,

36 a nd ye yourselves like unto men that wait for their lord, when he will return from the wedding; that when he comes and knocks, they may open unto him immediately.

y sean semejantes a hombres que esperan a su señor que regresa de las bodas, para abrirle tan pronto como llegue y llame.

37 B lessed are those slaves, whom the lord when he comes shall find watching; verily I say unto you that he shall gird himself and make them to sit down to food and will come forth and serve them.

Dichosos aquellos siervos a quienes el señor, al venir, halle velando; en verdad les digo que se ceñirá para servir, y los sentará a la mesa, y acercándose, les servirá.

38 A nd if he shall come in the second watch or come in the third watch and find them so, blessed are those slaves.

Y ya sea que venga en la segunda vigilia (9 p. m. a medianoche), o aun en la tercera (medianoche a 3 a. m.), y los halla así, dichosos son aquellos siervos.

39 A nd know this: that if the husband of the house had known what hour the thief would come, he would have watched and not have suffered his house to be broken through.

“ Ustedes pueden estar seguros de que si el dueño de la casa hubiera sabido a qué hora iba a venir el ladrón, no hubiera permitido que entrara en su casa.

40 B e ye therefore ready also; for the Son of man comes at an hour when ye think not.

También ustedes estén preparados, porque el Hijo del Hombre vendrá a la hora que no esperan.” Parábola del Siervo Fiel y del Infiel

41 ¶ Then Peter said unto him, Lord, speakest thou this parable unto us or even to all?

Entonces Pedro dijo: “Señor, ¿nos dices esta parábola a nosotros, o también a todos los demás ?”

42 A nd the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward whom his lord shall make ruler over his household to give them their portion of food in due season?

El Señor respondió: “¿ Quién es, pues, el mayordomo fiel y prudente a quien su señor pondrá sobre sus siervos para que a su tiempo les dé sus raciones?

43 B lessed is that slave whom his lord when he comes shall find so doing.

Dichoso aquel siervo a quien, cuando su señor venga, lo encuentre haciendo así.

44 O f a truth I say unto you that he will make him ruler over all that he has.

En verdad les digo que lo pondrá sobre todos sus bienes.

45 B ut and if that slave shall say in his heart, My lord delays his coming, and shall begin to beat the menslaves and maids and to eat and drink and to be drunken,

Pero si aquel siervo dice en su corazón: ‘Mi señor tardará en venir,’ y empieza a golpear a los criados y a las criadas, y a comer, a beber y a embriagarse,

46 t he lord of that slave will come in a day when he does not look for him and at an hour when he is not aware and will cut him off and will appoint him his portion with the unfaithful.

el señor de aquel siervo llegará un día, cuando él no lo espera y a una hora que no sabe, y lo azotará severamente, y le asignará un lugar con los incrédulos.

47 A nd that slave who knew his lord’s will and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes.

Y aquel siervo que sabía la voluntad de su señor, y que no se preparó ni obró conforme a su voluntad, recibirá muchos azotes;

48 B ut he that knew not and did commit things worthy of stripes shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall much be required; and to whom much was committed, more will be asked of him.

pero el que no la sabía, e hizo cosas que merecían castigo, será azotado poco. A todo el que se le haya dado mucho, mucho se demandará de él; y al que mucho le han confiado, más le exigirán. Jesús, Causa de División

49 I am come to cast fire into the earth; and what do I desire, except that it be kindled?

“Yo he venido para echar fuego sobre la tierra, y ¡cómo quisiera que ya estuviera encendido!

50 B ut I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how I am anguished until it is accomplished!

Pero de un bautismo tengo que ser bautizado, y ¡cómo me angustio hasta que se cumpla!

51 T hink ye that I am come to the earth to give peace? No, I tell you, but rather division;

¿ Piensan que vine a dar paz en la tierra? No, les digo, sino más bien división.

52 f or from now on there shall be five in one house divided: three against two and two against three.

Porque desde ahora en adelante, cinco en una casa estarán divididos; tres contra dos y dos contra tres.

53 T he father shall be divided against the son and the son against the father, the mother against the daughter and the daughter against the mother, the mother-in-law against her daughter- in-law and the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.

Estarán divididos el padre contra el hijo y el hijo contra el padre; la madre contra la hija y la hija contra la madre; la suegra contra su nuera y la nuera contra su suegra.” Cómo Discernir el Tiempo

54 ¶ And he said also to the people, When ye see the cloud rising out of the west, straightway ye say, A shower comes, and so it is.

Decía también a las multitudes: “Cuando ven una nube que se levanta en el oeste, al instante ustedes dicen: ‘Viene un aguacero,’ y así sucede.

55 A nd when the south wind blows, ye say, There will be heat, and it comes to pass.

Y cuando sopla el viento del sur, dicen: ‘Va a hacer calor,’ y así pasa.

56 Y e hypocrites, ye can discern the face of the sky and of the earth; but how is it that ye do not discern this time?

¡Hipócritas! Saben examinar el aspecto de la tierra y del cielo; entonces, ¿por qué no examinan este tiempo presente ?

57 Y ea, and why even of yourselves judge ye not what is right?

“¿Y por qué no juzgan por sí mismos lo que es justo?

58 W hen thou goest with thine adversary to the magistrate, as thou art in the way, give diligence that thou may be delivered from him, lest he drag thee away to the judge, and the judge deliver thee to the officer, and the officer cast thee into prison.

Porque mientras vas con tu adversario para comparecer ante el magistrado, procura en el camino arreglarte con él, no sea que te arrastre ante el juez, y el juez te entregue al guardia, y el guardia te eche en la cárcel.

59 I tell thee, in no wise shalt thou come out of there until thou hast paid the very last mite.

Te digo que no saldrás de allí hasta que hayas pagado aun el último centavo.”
