1 ¶ Now the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad had a very great multitude of livestock, and when they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, it seemed unto them that the place was a place for livestock.

Los hijos de Rubén y los hijos de Gad tenían una cantidad muy grande de ganado. Por eso, cuando vieron la tierra de Jazer y la tierra de Galaad, que en verdad era un lugar bueno para ganado,

2 A nd the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben came and spoke unto Moses and to Eleazar, the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying,

los hijos de Gad y los hijos de Rubén fueron y hablaron a Moisés, al sacerdote Eleazar y a los jefes de la congregación y les dijeron:

3 A taroth and Dibon and Jazer and Nimrah and Heshbon and Elealeh and Shebam and Nebo and Beon,

“Atarot, Dibón, Jazer, Nimra, Hesbón, Eleale, Sebam, Nebo y Beón,

4 t he country which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock, and thy slaves have livestock.

la tierra que el Señor conquistó delante de la congregación de Israel es tierra para ganado; y tus siervos tienen ganado.

5 T herefore, they said, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy slaves for a possession and do not make us pass the Jordan.

“Si hemos hallado gracia ante tus ojos, que se dé esta tierra a tus siervos como posesión; no nos hagas pasar el Jordán,” le dijeron.

6 A nd Moses said unto the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here?

Pero Moisés dijo a los Gaditas y a los Rubenitas: “¿Irán sus hermanos a la guerra, mientras ustedes se quedan aquí?

7 W hy do ye discourage the heart of the sons of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD has given them?

¿Por qué desalientan a los Israelitas a fin de que no pasen a la tierra que el Señor les ha dado ?

8 T hus did your fathers when I sent them from Kadeshbarnea to see the land.

Esto es lo que los padres de ustedes hicieron cuando los envié de Cades Barnea a ver la tierra.

9 F or when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the sons of Israel that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them.

Pues cuando subieron hasta el Valle de Escol, y vieron la tierra, desalentaron a los Israelitas para que no entraran a la tierra que el Señor les había dado.

10 A nd the LORD’s anger was kindled the same time, and he swore, saying,

La ira del Señor se encendió aquél día y juró y dijo:

11 S urely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they were not perfect in following me,

‘Ninguno de estos hombres que salieron de Egipto, de veinte años arriba, verá la tierra que juré a Abraham, a Isaac y a Jacob, porque no Me siguieron fielmente,

12 e xcept Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua, the son of Nun, for they were perfect in following the LORD.

sino Caleb, hijo de Jefone el Cenezeo, y Josué, hijo de Nun, pues ellos sí han seguido fielmente al Señor.’

13 A nd the LORD’s anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of the LORD was consumed.

La ira del Señor se encendió contra Israel, y los hizo vagar en el desierto por cuarenta años, hasta que fue acabada toda la generación de los que habían hecho mal ante los ojos del Señor.

14 A nd, behold, ye are risen up in the place of your fathers, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel.

Ahora ustedes se han levantado en lugar de sus padres, prole de hombres pecadores, para añadir aún más a la ardiente ira del Señor contra Israel.

15 F or if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave you in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.

Pues si dejan de seguirle, otra vez El los abandonará en el desierto, y ustedes destruirán a todo este pueblo.”

16 ¶ Then they came near unto him and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our livestock and cities for our little ones,

Entonces ellos se acercaron a él, y le dijeron: “Edificaremos aquí establos para nuestro ganado y ciudades para nuestros pequeños;

17 b ut we ourselves will go arm ourselves and go with diligence before the sons of Israel until we have brought them unto their place, and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land.

pero nosotros nos armaremos para ir delante de los Israelitas hasta que los introduzcamos en su lugar, mientras que nuestros pequeños se quedarán en las ciudades fortificadas por causa de los habitantes de la tierra.

18 W e will not return unto our houses until the sons of Israel have inherited each man his inheritance.

No volveremos a nuestros hogares hasta que cada uno de los Israelitas haya ocupado su heredad.

19 F or we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan or forward because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side of Jordan eastward.

Porque no tendremos heredad con ellos al otro lado del Jordán y más allá, pues nuestra heredad nos ha tocado de este lado del Jordán, al oriente.”

20 T hen Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will prepare yourselves to go before the LORD to the war

Y Moisés les dijo: “Si hacen esto, si se arman delante del Señor para la guerra,

21 a nd will all pass the Jordan armed before the LORD until he has driven out his enemies from before him

y todos sus guerreros cruzan el Jordán delante del Señor hasta que El haya expulsado a Sus enemigos delante de El,

22 a nd the land is subdued before the LORD, then afterward ye shall return and be guiltless before the LORD and before Israel, and this land shall be your possession before the LORD.

y la tierra quede sometida delante del Señor; después volverán y quedarán libres de obligación para con el Señor y para con Israel; y esta tierra será de ustedes en posesión delante del Señor.

23 B ut if ye will not do so, behold, ye shall have sinned against the LORD, and be sure your sin will catch up with you.

Pero si no lo hacen así, miren, habrán pecado ante el Señor, y tengan por seguro que su pecado los alcanzará.

24 B uild cities for your little ones and folds for your sheep and do that which has proceeded out of your mouth.

Edifíquense ciudades para sus pequeños, y rediles para sus ovejas; y hagan lo que han prometido.”

25 A nd the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben spoke unto Moses, saying, Thy slaves will do as my lord commands.

Entonces los Gaditas y los Rubenitas hablaron a Moisés y dijeron: “Tus siervos harán tal como mi señor ordena.

26 O ur little ones, our wives, our livestock, and all our beasts, shall be there in the cities of Gilead;

Nuestros pequeños, nuestras mujeres, nuestro ganado y nuestros rebaños quedarán allí en las ciudades de Galaad;

27 b ut thy slaves, each one armed for war, will pass before the LORD to battle, as our lord saith.

mientras tus siervos, todos los que están armados para la guerra, cruzarán delante del Señor para la batalla, tal como mi señor dice.”

28 ¶ So concerning them Moses commanded Eleazar, the priest, and Joshua, the son of Nun, and the princes of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Israel.

Así lo ordenó Moisés en relación a ellos, al sacerdote Eleazar, a Josué, hijo de Nun, y a los jefes de las casas paternas de las tribus de los Israelitas.

29 A nd Moses said unto them, If the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben will pass the Jordan with you, each one armed to battle, before the LORD, after the land shall be subdued before you, then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession.

Y Moisés les dijo: “Si los Gaditas y los Rubenitas, todos los que están armados para la batalla, cruzan con ustedes el Jordán en presencia del Señor, y la tierra es sometida delante de ustedes, entonces les darán a ellos la tierra de Galaad en posesión;

30 B ut if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.

pero si no cruzan armados con ustedes, tendrán la herencia entre ustedes en la tierra de Canaán.”

31 A nd the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben answered, saying, As the LORD has said unto thy slaves, so will we do.

Los Gaditas y los Rubenitas respondieron: “Como el Señor ha dicho a sus siervos, así haremos.

32 W e will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance on this side of the Jordan shall be ours.

Nosotros cruzaremos armados en la presencia del Señor a la tierra de Canaán, y la posesión de nuestra heredad quedará con nosotros de este lado del Jordán.”

33 T hus Moses gave unto the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben and unto half the tribe of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with its cities and borders, even the cities of the country round about.

Entonces Moisés dio a los Gaditas, y a los Rubenitas, y a la media tribu de Manasés, hijo de José, el reino de Sehón, rey de los Amorreos, y el reino de Og, rey de Basán: la tierra con sus ciudades, con sus territorios, y las ciudades de la tierra circunvecina.

34 A nd the sons of Gad built Dibon and Ataroth and Aroer

Los Gaditas construyeron a Dibón, Atarot, Aroer,

35 a nd Atroth-shophan and Jaazer and Jogbehah

Atarot Sofán, Jazer, Jogbeha,

36 a nd Bethnimrah and Bethharan, fenced cities, and also folds for sheep.

Bet Nimra (Casa de Nimra) y Bet Arán (Casa de Arán), ciudades fortificadas, y rediles para las ovejas.

37 A nd the sons of Reuben built Heshbon and Elealeh and Kirjathaim

Los Rubenitas construyeron a Hesbón, Eleale y Quiriataim,

38 a nd Nebo and Baalmeon (their names being changed) and Shibmah and gave other names unto the cities which they built.

y Nebo, y Baal Meón, cambiando sus nombres, y Sibma; y dieron otros nombres a las ciudades que edificaron.

39 A nd the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, went to Gilead and took it and dispossessed the Amorite who was in it.

Los hijos de Maquir, hijo de Manasés, fueron a Galaad y la tomaron, y expulsaron a los Amorreos que estaban en ella.

40 A nd Moses gave Gilead unto Machir, the son of Manasseh; and he dwelt therein.

Entonces Moisés dio Galaad a Maquir, hijo de Manasés, y éste habitó en ella.

41 J air, the son of Manasseh also went and took the small towns thereof and called them Havothjair.

Jair, hijo de Manasés, fue y conquistó sus pueblos, y los llamó Havot Jair (las Aldeas de Jair).

42 L ikewise Nobah went and took Kenath and its villages and called it Nobah, after his own name.

También Noba fue y conquistó a Kenat y sus aldeas, y la llamó Noba, igual que él.
