1 ¶ Now the sons of Reuben and the sons of Gad had a very great multitude of livestock, and when they saw the land of Jazer and the land of Gilead, it seemed unto them that the place was a place for livestock.

Ora, os filhos de Rúben e os filhos de Gade tinham gado em grande quantidade; e quando viram a terra de Jazer, e a terra de Gileade, e que a região era própria para o gado,

2 A nd the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben came and spoke unto Moses and to Eleazar, the priest, and unto the princes of the congregation, saying,

vieram os filhos de Gade e os filhos de Rúben a Moisés e a Eleazar, o sacerdote, e aos príncipes da congregação e falaram-lhes, dizendo:

3 A taroth and Dibon and Jazer and Nimrah and Heshbon and Elealeh and Shebam and Nebo and Beon,

Atarote, Dibom, Jazer, Ninra, Hesbom, Eleale, Sebã, Nebo e Beom,

4 t he country which the LORD smote before the congregation of Israel, is a land for livestock, and thy slaves have livestock.

a terra que o Senhor feriu diante da congregação de Israel, é terra para gado, e os teus servos têm gado.

5 T herefore, they said, if we have found grace in thy sight, let this land be given unto thy slaves for a possession and do not make us pass the Jordan.

Disseram mais: Se temos achado graça aos teus olhos, dê-se esta terra em possessão aos teus servos, e não nos faças passar o Jordão.

6 A nd Moses said unto the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben, Shall your brethren go to war, and shall ye sit here?

Moisés, porém, respondeu aos filhos de Gade e aos filhos de Rúben: Irão vossos irmãos ã peleja, e ficareis vós sentados aqui?

7 W hy do ye discourage the heart of the sons of Israel from going over into the land which the LORD has given them?

Por que, pois, desanimais o coração dos filhos de Israel, para eles não passarem ã terra que o Senhor lhes deu?

8 T hus did your fathers when I sent them from Kadeshbarnea to see the land.

Assim fizeram vossos pais, quando os mandei de Cades-Barnéia a ver a terra.

9 F or when they went up unto the valley of Eshcol and saw the land, they discouraged the heart of the sons of Israel that they should not go into the land which the LORD had given them.

Pois, tendo eles subido até o vale de Escol, e visto a terra, desanimaram o coração dos filhos de Israel, para que não entrassem na terra que o Senhor lhes dera.

10 A nd the LORD’s anger was kindled the same time, and he swore, saying,

Então a ira do Senhor se acendeu naquele mesmo dia, e ele jurou, dizendo:

11 S urely none of the men that came up out of Egypt, from twenty years old and upward, shall see the land which I swore unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob; because they were not perfect in following me,

De certo os homens que subiram do Egito, de vinte anos para cima, não verão a terra que prometi com juramento a Abraão, a Isaque, e a Jacó! porquanto não perseveraram em seguir-me;

12 e xcept Caleb, the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite, and Joshua, the son of Nun, for they were perfect in following the LORD.

exceto Calebe, filho de Jefoné o quenezeu, e Josué, filho de Num, porquanto perseveraram em seguir ao Senhor.

13 A nd the LORD’s anger was kindled against Israel, and he made them wander in the wilderness forty years until all the generation that had done evil in the sight of the LORD was consumed.

Assim se acendeu a ira do Senhor contra Israel, e ele os fez andar errantes no deserto quarenta anos, até que se consumiu toda aquela geração que fizera mal aos olhos do Senhor.

14 A nd, behold, ye are risen up in the place of your fathers, an increase of sinful men, to augment yet the fierce anger of the LORD toward Israel.

E eis que vós, uma geração de homens pecadores, vos levantastes em lugar de vossos pais, para ainda mais aumentardes o furor da ira do Senhor contra Israel.

15 F or if ye turn away from after him, he will yet again leave you in the wilderness; and ye shall destroy all this people.

se vós vos virardes de segui-lo, também ele tornará a deixá-los no deserto; assim destruireis a todo este povo:

16 ¶ Then they came near unto him and said, We will build sheepfolds here for our livestock and cities for our little ones,

Então chegaram-se a ele, e disseram: Construiremos aqui currais para o nosso gado, e cidades para os nossos pequeninos;

17 b ut we ourselves will go arm ourselves and go with diligence before the sons of Israel until we have brought them unto their place, and our little ones shall dwell in the fenced cities because of the inhabitants of the land.

nós, porém, nos armaremos, apressando-nos adiante dos filhos de Israel, até os levarmos ao seu lugar; e ficarão os nossos pequeninos nas cidades fortificadas, por causa dos habitantes da terra.

18 W e will not return unto our houses until the sons of Israel have inherited each man his inheritance.

Não voltaremos para nossas casas até que os filhos de Israel estejam de posse, cada um, da sua herança.

19 F or we will not inherit with them on the other side of the Jordan or forward because our inheritance is fallen to us on this side of Jordan eastward.

Porque não herdaremos com eles além do Jordão, nem mais adiante; visto que já possuímos a nossa herança aquém do Jordão, ao oriente.

20 T hen Moses said unto them, If ye will do this thing, if ye will prepare yourselves to go before the LORD to the war

Então lhes respondeu Moisés: se isto fizerdes, se vos armardes para a guerra perante o Senhor,

21 a nd will all pass the Jordan armed before the LORD until he has driven out his enemies from before him

e cada um de vós, armado, passar o Jordão perante o Senhor, até que ele haja lançado fora os seus inimigos de diante dele,

22 a nd the land is subdued before the LORD, then afterward ye shall return and be guiltless before the LORD and before Israel, and this land shall be your possession before the LORD.

e a terra esteja subjugada perante o senhor, então, sim, voltareis e sereis inculpáveis perante o Senhor e perante Israel; e esta terra vos será por possessão perante o Senhor.

23 B ut if ye will not do so, behold, ye shall have sinned against the LORD, and be sure your sin will catch up with you.

Mas se não fizerdes assim, estareis pecando contra o Senhor; e estai certos de que o vosso pecado vos há de atingir.

24 B uild cities for your little ones and folds for your sheep and do that which has proceeded out of your mouth.

Edificai cidades para os vossos pequeninos, e currais para as vossas ovelhas; e cumpri o que saiu da vossa boca.

25 A nd the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben spoke unto Moses, saying, Thy slaves will do as my lord commands.

Então os filhos de Gade e os filhos de Rúben disseram a Moisés: Como ordena meu senhor, assim farão teus servos.

26 O ur little ones, our wives, our livestock, and all our beasts, shall be there in the cities of Gilead;

Os nossos pequeninos, as nossas mulheres, os nossos rebanhos e todo o nosso gado ficarão nas cidades de Gileade;

27 b ut thy slaves, each one armed for war, will pass before the LORD to battle, as our lord saith.

mas os teus servos passarão, cada um que está armado para a guerra, a pelejar perante o Senhor, como diz o meu senhor.

28 ¶ So concerning them Moses commanded Eleazar, the priest, and Joshua, the son of Nun, and the princes of the fathers of the tribes of the sons of Israel.

Então Moisés deu ordem acerca deles a Eleazar, o sacerdote, e a Josué, filho de Num, e aos cabeças das casas paternas nas tribos dos filhos de Israel;

29 A nd Moses said unto them, If the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben will pass the Jordan with you, each one armed to battle, before the LORD, after the land shall be subdued before you, then ye shall give them the land of Gilead for a possession.

e disse-lhes Moisés: Se os filhos de Gade e os filhos de Rúben passarem convosco o Jordão, armado cada um para a guerra perante o Senhor, e a terra for subjugada diante de vós, então lhes dareis a terra de Gileade por possessão;

30 B ut if they will not pass over with you armed, they shall have possessions among you in the land of Canaan.

se, porém, não passarem armados convosco, terão possessões entre vós na terra de Canaã.

31 A nd the sons of Gad and the sons of Reuben answered, saying, As the LORD has said unto thy slaves, so will we do.

Ao que responderam os filhos de Gade e os filhos de Rúben: Como o senhor disse a teus servos, assim faremos.

32 W e will pass over armed before the LORD into the land of Canaan, and the possession of our inheritance on this side of the Jordan shall be ours.

Nós passaremos armados perante o senhor para a terra de Canaã, e teremos a possessão de nossa herança aquém do Jordão.

33 T hus Moses gave unto the sons of Gad and to the sons of Reuben and unto half the tribe of Manasseh, the son of Joseph, the kingdom of Sihon king of the Amorites and the kingdom of Og king of Bashan, the land, with its cities and borders, even the cities of the country round about.

Assim deu Moisés aos filhos de Gade e aos filhos de Rúben, e ã meia tribo de Manassés, filho de José, o reino de Siom, rei dos amorreus, e o reino de Ogue, rei de Basã, a terra com as suas cidades e os respectivos territórios ao redor.

34 A nd the sons of Gad built Dibon and Ataroth and Aroer

Os filhos de Gade, pois, edificaram a Dibom, Atarote, Aroer,

35 a nd Atroth-shophan and Jaazer and Jogbehah

Atarote-Sofã, Jazer, Jogbeá,

36 a nd Bethnimrah and Bethharan, fenced cities, and also folds for sheep.

Bete-Ninra e Bete-Harã, cidades fortificadas; e construíram currais de ovelhas.

37 A nd the sons of Reuben built Heshbon and Elealeh and Kirjathaim

E os filhos de Rúben edificaram a Hesbom, Eleale e Quiriataim;

38 a nd Nebo and Baalmeon (their names being changed) and Shibmah and gave other names unto the cities which they built.

e Nebo e Baal-Meom (mudando-lhes os nomes), e Sibma; e deram outros nomes

39 A nd the sons of Machir, the son of Manasseh, went to Gilead and took it and dispossessed the Amorite who was in it.

E os filhos de Maquir, filho de Manassés, foram a Gileade e a tomaram, e desapossaram aos amorreus que aí estavam.

40 A nd Moses gave Gilead unto Machir, the son of Manasseh; and he dwelt therein.

Deu, pois, Moisés a terra de Gileade a Maquir, filho de Manassés, o qual habitou nela.

41 J air, the son of Manasseh also went and took the small towns thereof and called them Havothjair.

E foi Jair, filho de Manassés, e tomou as aldeias dela, e chamou-lhes Havote-Jair.

42 L ikewise Nobah went and took Kenath and its villages and called it Nobah, after his own name.

Também foi Nobá, e tomou a Quenate com as suas aldeias; e chamou-lhe Nobá, segundo o seu próprio nome.
