1 ¶ Whosoever goes astray seeks according to his own lust and shall meddle with every doctrine.

Aquele que vive isolado busca seu próprio desejo; insurge-se contra a verdadeira sabedoria.

2 ¶ A fool has no delight in understanding, but in that which his own heart discovers.

O tolo não toma prazer no entendimento, mas tão somente em revelar a sua opinião.

3 ¶ When the wicked comes, then comes also contempt, and with him who dishonours, reproach.

Quando vem o ímpio, vem também o desprezo; e com a desonra vem o opróbrio.

4 ¶ The words of a man’s mouth are as deep waters, and the wellspring of wisdom as a flowing brook.

Aguas profundas são as palavras da boca do homem; e a fonte da sabedoria é um ribeiro que corre.

5 ¶ To respect the person of the wicked so that the righteous loses that which is rightfully his is not good.

Não é bom ter respeito ã pessoa do impio, nem privar o justo do seu direito.

6 ¶ A fool’s lips enter into contention, and his mouth calls for strokes.

Os lábios do tolo entram em contendas, e a sua boca clama por açoites.

7 A fool’s mouth is his destruction, and his lips are the snare of his soul.

A boca do tolo é a sua própria destruição, e os seus lábios um laço para a sua alma.

8 ¶ The words of a talebearer seem smooth, but they go down into the innermost parts of the belly.

As palavras do difamador são como bocados doces, que penetram até o íntimo das entranhas.

9 ¶ He also that is negligent in his work is brother to him that is the great spendthrift.

Aquele que é remisso na sua obra é irmão do que é destruidor.

10 ¶ The name of the LORD is a strong tower: the righteous shall run into it, and be raised up.

Torre forte é o nome do Senhor; para ela corre o justo, e está seguro.

11 ¶ The rich man’s wealth is his strong city and as a high wall in his imagination.

Os bens do rico são a sua cidade forte, e como um muro alto na sua imaginação.

12 ¶ Before being broken, the heart of man is haughty, and before coming into honour, comes being brought to humility.

Antes da ruína eleva-se o coração do homem; e adiante da honra vai a humildade.

13 ¶ For him that answers a word before he hears, it is folly and reproach unto him.

Responder antes de ouvir, é estultícia e vergonha.

14 ¶ The spirit of man will bear his infirmity, but a broken spirit who can bear?

O espírito do homem o sustentará na sua enfermidade; mas ao espírito abatido quem o levantará?

15 ¶ The heart of the man of understanding acquires wisdom, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

O coração do entendido adquire conhecimento; e o ouvido dos sábios busca conhecimento;

16 ¶ A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before great men.

O presente do homem alarga-lhe o caminho, e leva-o ã presença dos grandes.

17 ¶ The one who is just is first in his cause, his adversary comes and seeks him out.

O que primeiro começa o seu pleito parece justo; até que vem o outro e o examina.

18 ¶ The lot causes contentions to cease and decides between the mighty.

A sorte faz cessar os pleitos, e decide entre os poderosos.

19 ¶ A brother offended is harder to be won than a strong city, and their contentions are like the bars of a castle.

um irmão ajudado pelo irmão é como uma cidade fortificada; é forte como os ferrolhos dum castelo.

20 ¶ A man’s belly shall be filled with the fruit of his mouth, and with the product of his lips shall he be filled.

O homem se fartará do fruto da sua boca; dos renovos dos seus lábios se fartará.

21 ¶ Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those that love it shall eat its fruit.

A morte e a vida estão no poder da língua; e aquele que a ama comerá do seu fruto.

22 ¶ Whosoever found a wife found a good thing and has attained the favour of the LORD.

Quem encontra uma esposa acha uma coisa boa; e alcança o favor do Senhor.

23 ¶ The poor uses intreaties, but the rich answer roughly.

O pobre fala com rogos; mas o rico responde com durezas.

24 ¶ The man that has friends must show himself to be a friend, and there is a friend that sticks closer than a brother.

O homem que tem muitos amigos, tem-nos para a sua ruína; mas há um amigo que é mais chegado do que um irmão.
