1 ¶ Admonish them to be subject to dominion and power, and to persuade those who have authority, that they be quick unto every good work.

Adverte-lhes que estejam sujeitos aos governadores e autoridades, que sejam obedientes, e estejam preparados para toda boa obra,

2 T hat they speak evil of no one, that they not be contentious, but gentle, showing all meekness unto all men.

que a ninguém infamem, nem sejam contenciosos, mas moderados, mostrando toda a mansidão para com todos os homens.

3 F or we ourselves also were foolish in another time, rebellious, deceived, serving diverse lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.

Porque também nós éramos outrora insensatos, desobedientes, extraviados, servindo a várias paixões e deleites, vivendo em malícia e inveja odiosos e odiando-nos uns aos outros.

4 B ut after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,

Mas quando apareceu a bondade de Deus, nosso Salvador e o seu amor para com os homens,

5 n ot by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

não em virtude de obras de justiça que nós houvéssemos feito, mas segundo a sua misericórdia, nos salvou mediante o lavar da regeneração e renovação pelo Espírito Santo,

6 w hich he poured out abundantly in us through Jesus, the Christ, our Saviour;

que ele derramou abundantemente sobre nós por Jesus Cristo, nosso Salvador;

7 t hat being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

para que, sendo justificados pela sua graça, fôssemos feitos herdeiros segundo a esperança da vida eterna.

8 T he Word is faithful, and I desire that thou affirm this constantly, that those who have believed God might be careful to conduct themselves in good works. This is good and profitable unto men.

Fiel é esta palavra, e quero que a proclames com firmeza para que os que crêm em Deus procurem aplicar-se

9 ¶ But avoid foolish questions and genealogies and contentions and debates concerning the law, for they are unprofitable and vain.

Mas evita questões tolas, genealogias, contendas e debates acerca da lei; porque são coisas inúteis e vãs.

10 A man that is a heretic, after the first and second admonition, reject him,

Ao homem faccioso, depois da primeira e segunda admoestação, evita-o,

11 k nowing that he that is such is subverted and sins, being condemned of his own judgment.

sabendo que esse tal está pervertido, e vive pecando, e já por si mesmo está condenado.

12 W hen I shall send Artemas unto thee or Tychicus, procure to come unto me to Nicopolis; for I have determined to winter there.

Quando te enviar Ártemas, ou Tíquico, apressa-te a vir ter comigo a Nicópolis; porque tenho resolvido invernar ali.

13 S end Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on ahead, procuring that nothing be lacking unto them.

Ajuda com empenho a Zenas, doutor da lei, e a Apolo, para que nada lhes falte na sua viagem.

14 A nd let ours also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they not be unfruitful.

Que os nossos também aprendam a aplicar-se

15 A ll that are with me salute thee. Greet those that love us in the faith. Grace be with you all. Amen.
