1 ¶ And the LORD spoke unto Moses, saying,

Então disse o Senhor a Moisés:

2 S end thou men that they may spy out the land of Canaan, which I give unto the sons of Israel; of every tribe of their fathers ye shall send a man, each one a prince among them.

Envia homens que espiem a terra de Canaã, que eu hei de dar aos filhos de Israel. De cada tribo de seus pais enviarás um homem, sendo cada qual príncipe entre eles.

3 A nd Moses by the commandment of the LORD sent them from the wilderness of Paran; all those men were princes of the sons of Israel.

Moisés, pois, enviou-os do deserto de Parã, segundo a ordem do Senhor; eram todos eles homens principais dentre os filhos de Israel.

4 A nd these were their names: of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua, the son of Zaccur.

E estes são os seus nomes: da tribo de Rúben, Samua, filho de Zacur;

5 O f the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat, the son of Hori.

da tribo de Simeão, Safate, filho de Hori;

6 O f the tribe of Judah, Caleb, the son of Jephunneh.

da tribo de Judá, Calebe, filho de Jefoné;

7 O f the tribe of Issachar, Igal, the son of Joseph.

da tribo de Issacar, Ioal, filho de José;

8 O f the tribe of Ephraim, Hosea, the son of Nun.

da tribo de Efraim, Oséias, filho de Num;

9 O f the tribe of Benjamin, Palti, the son of Raphu.

da tribo de Benjamim, Palti, filho de Rafu;

10 O f the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel, the son of Sodi.

da tribo de Zebulom, Gadiel, filho de Sódi;

11 O f the tribe of Joseph, namely, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi, the son of Susi.

da tribo de José, pela tribo de Manassés, Gadi, filho de Susi;

12 O f the tribe of Dan, Ammiel, the son of Gemalli.

da tribo de Dã, Amiel, filho de Gemali;

13 O f the tribe of Asher, Sethur, the son of Michael.

da tribo de Aser, Setur, filho de Micael;

14 O f the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi, the son of Vophsi.

da tribo de Naftali, Nabi, filho de Vofsi;

15 O f the tribe of Gad, Geuel, the son of Machi.

da tribo de Gade, Geuel, filho de Maqui.

16 T hese are the names of the men whom Moses sent to spy out the land. And Moses called Hosea, the son of Nun, Joshua.

Estes são os nomes dos homens que Moisés enviou a espiar a terra. Ora, a Oséias, filho de Num, Moisés chamou Josué.

17 A nd Moses sent them to spy out the land of Canaan and said unto them, Go up this way towards the Negev and go up into the mountain

Enviou-os, pois, Moisés a espiar: a terra de Canaã, e disse-lhes: Subi por aqui para o Negebe, e penetrai nas montanhas;

18 a nd see the land, what it is, and the people that dwell therein, whether they are strong or weak, few or many,

e vede a terra, que tal é; e o povo que nela habita, se é forte ou fraco, se pouco ou muito;

19 a nd how the land is that they dwell in, whether it is good or bad, and what cities there are that they dwell in, whether in tents, or in strong holds,

que tal é a terra em que habita, se boa ou má; que tais são as cidades em que habita, se arraiais ou fortalezas;

20 A nd what the land is, whether it is fertile or sterile, whether there are trees therein, or not. And be ye of good courage and bring of the fruit of the land. Now the time was the time of the firstripe grapes.

e que tal é a terra, se gorda ou magra; se nela há árvores, ou não; e esforçai-vos, e tomai do fruto da terra. Ora, a estação era a das uvas temporãs.

21 ¶ So they went up and spied out the land from the wilderness of Zin unto Rehob, as men come to Hamath.

Assim subiram, e espiaram a terra desde o deserto de Zim, até Reobe, ã entrada de Hamate.

22 A nd they ascended by the Negev and came unto Hebron, where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the sons of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)

E subindo para o Negebe, vieram até Hebrom, onde estavam Aimã, Sesai e Talmai, filhos de Anaque. (Ora, Hebrom foi edificada sete anos antes de Zoã no Egito. )

23 A nd they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and from there they cut down a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bore it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates and of the figs.

Depois vieram até e vale de Escol, e dali cortaram um ramo de vide com um só cacho, o qual dois homens trouxeram sobre uma verga; trouxeram também romãs e figos.

24 T he place was called the brook Eshcol because of the cluster of grapes which the sons of Israel cut down from there.

Chamou-se aquele lugar o vale de Escol, por causa do cacho que dali cortaram os filhos de Israel.

25 A nd they returned from searching of the land after forty days.

Ao fim de quarenta dias voltaram de espiar a terra.

26 ¶ And they went and came to Moses and to Aaron and to all the congregation of the sons of Israel, unto the wilderness of Paran to Kadesh and brought back word unto them and unto all the congregation and showed them the fruit of the land.

E, chegando, apresentaram-se a Moisés e a Arão, e a toda a congregação dos filhos de Israel, no deserto de Parã, em Cades; e deram-lhes notícias, a eles e a toda a congregação, e mostraram-lhes o fruto da terra.

27 A nd they told him and said, We came unto the land where thou didst send us, and surely it flows with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.

E, dando conta a Moisés, disseram: Fomos ã terra a que nos enviaste. Ela, em verdade, mana leite e mel; e este é o seu fruto.

28 N evertheless the people are strong that dwell in that land, and the cities are very great and strong; and moreover we saw the sons of Anak there.

Contudo o povo que habita nessa terra é poderoso, e as cidades são fortificadas e mui grandes. Vimos também ali os filhos de Anaque.

29 A malek dwells in the land of the Negev, and the Hittite and the Jebusite and the Amorite dwell in the mountains, and the Canaanite dwells by the sea and by the side of the Jordan.

Os amalequitas habitam na terra do Negebe; os heteus, os jebuseus e os amorreus habitam nas montanhas; e os cananeus habitam junto do mar, e ao longo do rio Jordão.

30 T hen Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.

Então Calebe, fazendo calar o povo perante Moisés, disse: Subamos animosamente, e apoderemo-nos dela; porque bem poderemos prevalecer contra ela.

31 B ut the men that went up with him said, We are not able to go up against that people, for they are stronger than we.

Disseram, porém, os homens que subiram com ele: Não poderemos subir contra aquele povo, porque é mais forte do que nos.

32 A nd they brought up an evil report of the land which they had spied out unto the sons of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone through to spy it out, is a land that eats up its inhabitants; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.

Assim, perante os filhos de Israel infamaram a terra que haviam espiado, dizendo: A terra, pela qual passamos para espiá-la, é terra que devora os seus habitantes; e todo o povo que vimos nela são homens de grande estatura.

33 A nd there we saw giants, the sons of Anak, of the race of the giants; and we were in our own sight as locusts, and so we were in their sight.

Também vimos ali os nefilins, isto é, os filhos de Anaque, que são descendentes dos nefilins; éramos aos nossos olhos como gafanhotos; e assim também éramos aos seus olhos.
